So glad after last year i decided to "step away" from being so into following the season.

I didn't watch the game, knew a negative result was very possible and the aftermath would be nothing but doom, gloom and banter club.

Don't know how we played, haven't looked at anything other than the score.

Things to remember though

  • United have nothing to lose at the moment. There are no expectations on them under Carrick. If they got battered 5-0 by both City and Arsenal no one would have cared. That makes them incredibly dangerous to play against.

  • Bad runs happen. Man City are currently 1 W 3 D and 1 L from their last 5, yet all the noise is positive "Here comes Pep, the inevitable championship push...." Arsenal are 2 W 2 D 1 L from our last 5, yet all the noise is negative. Everyone wants Arsenal to fail. Everyone wants the banter to continue. Try not to get sucked into the negativity.

  • Arteta and co will be painfully aware of all of this noise and they will be hurting more than the fans. To fail this season will be a blow to them professionally. You can say whatever you want about Arteta but you cant question his passion and his desire to win with Arsenal. You can bet they are doing every tiny shred of analysis to figure out a way to break this slump.

Your best bet is to just shrug this off, avoid all media, and move on to the next game. That's what I'll be doing.

If we can somehow get through this fixture congestion, which will last until mid Feb, with a lead, we might be okay.

It's been constant, every 3 days, since what, mid December? Grind it out, and it may open up a little.

Yes I recall a month or so ago posting the schedule, no mid week off until mid February. The schedule is insane. Squeezing every drop they can from the players. Adding extra games too with the CL expanded format and then random new tournaments as well. Very little respite for the players.

I know it’s like that for many clubs. Perhaps Chelsea and City have felt the impact of the club World Cup now during this festive period. Arsenal, despite the last few league games, have actually been consistently good in terms of points per game over this period.

And conversely, United are out of every competition now and have a week between games to prepare. Clearly they were refreshed and had the legs to show for it over the weekend.

Really need to rotate heavily for the Kairat match and then it’s a big few days again for Arsenal. Away to Leeds and then EFL Cup semi final next Wednesday.

Also I thought Arteta spoke brilliantly at his press conference overnight. It’s worth listening to if you’re so inclined. His opening comments were on point I felt.

It’s all happening. Penalty for Kairat. No need for Calafiori to pull him back like that. Fair enough that’s a foul.

There’s a chunk of his name on the back of his shirt ripped off, must’ve been from Calafiori grabbing his shirt. Not sure I’ve ever see that before :D

It looked offside to me live but the goal survives the check. 3-1. Martinelli.

Gyokeres really could’ve had 3-4 already.

2 half time changes. That’s an excellent 45 minutes for Havertz returning from injury.

Big half here for Odegaard.

Hopefully Salmon gets some minutes later. Some more youth players both bench too.
