The coming world cup is interesting now.

England, France, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Spain and a few others are seriously in discussions to boycott the cup with many fans demanding it.

Im not going to sugarcoat it, I think they should.

One hard fact even the biggest MAGA cant deny, Trump is very narcissistic and driven by his ego. Even though as part of the agreement he has even recently guaranteed that all players and officials will be able to enter.

But that alone is not trustworthy. Trump continues to change his mind on a whim.

No one can trust this man not to make a statement that he refuses to guarantee players and officials will be able to enter and they will be subject to intense social media and criminal history checks, including their families. This could come next week or days out from teams arriving into the states. It could even happen that teams based in Mexico and Canada will have no certainty of entering mid tournament.

The smart decision FIFA should make tomorrow is to move USA matches to the UK and Europe. just remove the uncertainty. They USA only have Trump to blame. Why should the rest of the world be subject to the beat of his drum.
Serious discussions?
This sounds BS
They wont boycott it

agree.......It's insane how tribal US politics is. People quite literally don't want any other viewpoint in their life and disown anyone who doesn't agree with them, so they end up swimming in a fishbowl. Than you get verballed if you choose to be a centrist.

blue no matter who.

red till your dead.

I don't think i have voted for the same party in federal or state elections for like 3 elections now.
Is this a symptom of voting not being compulsory?

To get your constituent off their lazy arse to vote, the messaging has to be black or white, with nothing in between possible.

I'm no expert on the average US voter, but if you're a "centrist" would you be bothered voting? My presumption is it would be far easier to mobilise your base if the messaging is extreme and at the extremities of either voting spectrum.

Both Democrats and Republicans are right wing, with Republicans being further to the right.

In which case a centrist should vote for the least worst option.

dunno tbh

compulsory voting doesn't mean much I think, I mean if drawing a penis counted as a vote we would have a literal dick as a PM, not just albo acting like one. That's how many people do it.

US just has rampant tribalism in their political sphere. I'm sure social media has played its part in that. I have heard masses of older US politicians make comments such that US politics was never as tribal is it has been in the last 10-15 years.

Hard disagree on that. It's why there's an almighty difference between US politics and Aussie politics.

fair enough

I don't think compulsory voting is the main difference between us and the US though.

Huge amounts of countries such as the UK, most of Europe, Canada etc don't have compulsory voting and they don't have the same type of Tribalism that the US does.

Do you know the number for eligible voters?
No I do not. But last election had 277,000 people vote. The one before had 244,000 vote. So that is a lot of people who didn't vote in this election. And I'm guessing it is due to having to vote again in November. While the result may mean something I personally wouldn't read too much into that and get excited about it.

The Westminster system also helps.

most of the world doesn't do compulsory voting yet few are as tribal as the US is.

the US is just.................different.......in their mindset

If the Dems don’t get people out for this year’s midterms and again in ‘28 the American “experiment” as they like to call it is over - good night USA. Won’t be coming back from 8 consecutive years of Trumpism / MAGA / Project 2025.
First I hope they don't dwell on everything Trump. I would go hard on their current economic conditions, on the Republican complicity in passing laws, especially whoever the local campaigners are. By name, blame them for voting for health care cuts, tariffs, and where applicable ICE. Use Trump only as a side note or for their enabling him.

I think this is what studies have revealed

But there are outliers - which I think/hope happens in November

That really angry Dems/Centrists or disenchanted Republicans get out in force. Whether it be a protest vote now ' to correct the party ' or genuine concern that a true turning point is occurring

Trump's default comments on something negative is that he never heard of it. "Nobody told him".
The Aussie Football coach go to

' Jim do you have a comment on the king hit that happened right in front of you on the boundary line '

"" Didn't see it ""

Trump has indirectly been the Democrats' biggest fund-raiser for a decade, I'd be surprised if they change strategy now.

Even though there is a denial they admit to hearing that discussions are taking place

BS you say, lol

If no team has officially boycotted and FIFA hasnt changed anything by the end of March, April its not going to happen I agree with you.

I think for Oz it's the combined effect of the Big Three -

compulsory voting,

preferential voting,

independent, uncorrupted AEC which constantly redraws electoral boundaries based solely on demographic shifts, so all electorates always contain the same number of voters.
