Both codes here have deplorable commentary broadly - it’s painful. The NRL has a handful of good callers on Fox but their FTA crew have a collective IQ that would struggle to break into single digits - Billy Slater is about the only one I don’t cringe listening to. Other than a few of the special comments guys on 7 it’s been deplorable ever since Bruce/Dennis stepped aside. This obsession with the boorish MMM style of calling is just painful - Bennett is a consummate professional who just gets out of the way and tells you what you need to know without shouting at me about what colour someone’s laces are. How that isn’t rewarded is beyond me.

Wowser - this is so weird to me.

Any coach that gave me a bake just lost my respect. I always thought "get a look at yourself - screaming like this. You've lost control and you look like a damn fool."

For me the power imbalance is really gross. Anyone that yells at someone knowing they can't/won't yell back is just.... I dunno.... it's not that brave or tough or inspiring? They just lose me completely.

But also - I'm not saying this to be superior. Clearly it works for a lot of people and all a coach has to do is get their people to perform at their best - in whatever way works.

Jason Bennett dropped from Channel 7 commentary. Because of course he has been - how dare he call games without hyperbole, pointless anecdotes or assaulting the English language like it had an affair with his wife.

Just remember kids, work hard and be really good at what you do and some day James Brayshaw can get to do your job despite having none of the requisite talent or skills.

I used to think Brayshaw's constant screaming of the meaningless 'what's happening?!' was rhetorical but the more I had to listen to him the more convinced I became that he was genuinely unsure of where he was and what the events unfolding before him meant.

used sensibly and selectively, it shows passion and if it elicits the same passion from the players, as it is intended to do, it works.

Cannot be used too often and must include strategic and instructional advice though, otherwise it is just a rant, and the players will know it.

I can see that logically - I never understood Buckley going there as an assistant. Geelong are not bad at managing a crisis assuming this is true.

JB's the worst at this! He always tries to put on this facade that he's this tough Aussie, he really bungs on the Aussie accent and uses Aussie slang that no one really cares to listen too, all the time! 100 percent trying to get away from the fact that him and he's family are loaded and far from your average battler.

Romping wins I can't stand cause he's always trying to crack in jokes with the commentators that no one gets. Mate we don't give a shit that you go out for dinner, wine and a show with some of the players and your part of some strange skull and bones society, ya give me the creeps!
