The only question is his ball use under present as a wing that would be status quo for our previous wingers…

Called it weeks ago that Ryan was on watch for not making B23. I am surprised it is Walker that displaces him though as I was picking it to be Draper.

Some of you love a whinge. What JL said about Reid is right in that keeping his decision making simple will actually help him. My criticism is that JL says things he shouldn't, not because they're wrong, but because external people will misunderstand the intent behind his words. JL is a little too flippant and should not say such things during a press conference.

Best news is the Cox injury scare sounds like a knock not a strain.

JL already has a reputation as too conservative, dour and unwilling to release the shackles enough to truly let the talent on this list shine. Our team has a reputation as being introverted, and going into its shell when the going gets tough. Externally we want to instil confidence, not quell it.

We've got this second year freak talent - fresh off the rising star, and the most exciting debut season since Fyfe/Morabito/Barlow. On the eve of the season, I really don't want to hear how he needs to swim between the flags. It's deflating AF. Of course he has things to work on, he's a second year player. Work on that behind the scenes.

But people here obviously give his choice of words in a presser different weightings around here, which is absolutely fair enough, so that's the last I'll say on it.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for giving those RFI's behind closed doors. I just think publicly the messaging should be "we love what he brings, we celebrate his special talent, we want to build our team to allow him to thrive" - rather than saying that he needs to work on his defensive efforts and reign it in a bit. (edit - removed improper use of quotation marks when paraphrasing)

The reverse is even better.

Publicly say he needs to hold back, privately encourage risk taking.

Mate it’s February coaches aren’t stupid we could’ve had Gaz jnr out there running around and JL would’ve said the same, the messaging would be completely different behind 4 walls
