Watching Worpel playing for another team:Won't miss the ineffective Worpel fend off
I don't disagree with that - the Tiger young talent is very good.Without having had a look at the 2005 Hawthorn BnF results, I'd be surprised if any of Roughy, Buddy, Lewy finished in the Top 12. However, having watched them in that (debut) season, I was confident we'd picked three gems.
I had a similar feeling about the likes of Lalor, Hotton, Faull, Trainor, Armstrong et al last year. They're all going to be very, very good players. Besides, Smilie hasn't played yet due to an injury-riddled 2025 and they picked up Cumming & Grlj in last year's draft.
I'm much more optimistic about Richmond's prospects for the next few seasons than I am about North.
Love it. Unfortunately time is not my friend with a couple of little onesNo tool, just paper and pencil and then transposed it to the card.
My city pub still does things with paper. It's old school but we love it.

Worps went alright when he played to his strengths, I always thought he was close to his zen moment when it all clicked together and he could step up and be the next big thing. Unfortunately that never came to reality, and he ended up being a Brad Sewell lite with Danger's kicking accuracy.Looks like the Worpedo has cemented whipping boy status already!
So who’s coaching Geelong? Is Scott still on leave?
The talent Richmond got last year is closer to the Hawks 2001 draft haul than it is to the 2004 draft haul which means their next final is 6 years away.
Plenty of texts from my Geelong supporting mates.

You beat me to it - yes, a prediction of Montagnaesque proportions, indeed! The Joey Montagna of seeing the future, perhaps.
They should have seen it coming. Midfield was/is our biggest weakness and we just let our most experienced mid walk in free agency without even thinking about matching. He was copping it from a few posters in their preseason thread last night. Far bigger lashings than he ever copped here.
Richmond has nothing like that. They sold their mid 20's senior players to get the elite draft talent last season and the older senior players will all be gone before the kids are ready to make/win finals. There are not many senior players on the Richmond list between 23 and 29 years old - they sold them all.

Unsure if it’s just me
Outside of Fireball
I am finding all football media extremely frustrating and annoying
Sam Edmund is pissing me off
And SEN open and close with two grumpy old ****s
Only the absolute basket cases with a need for a coach change are ever 6 years away from finals after hitting the draft as hard as Richmond did.I don't disagree with that - the Tiger young talent is very good.
But, three years before Buddy/Rough/Lewis the Hawks took Hodge and Mitchell as well as Brown and Ladson (and would also end up with Hale and Lake) from the 2001 draft, and already had Crawford, Croad, Osborne, Williams, Bateman, Sewell and others who would all be senior players in the 2008 premiership.

I have completely tuned out from footy media. It is 99% sensationalism and opinion and 0% analytics.
We just had 5 years out of finals, and if you exlcude the 2018 bump, really a seven year rotation. And similar before 2007. Richmond would be fine to take 6-8 years to get back there. North haven't been close for 6 years. You beat me to it - yes, a prediction of Montagnaesque proportions, indeed!
A few final thoughts on this topic:
We absolutely nailed our 3 Top 10 Picks in 2004. I believe Richmond did the same with their 7 Top 25 Picks exactly two decades later.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that Lalor & Co. will achieve success similar to what Roughly, Lewy and, until he left for Sydney, Buddy did - but I give them a pretty good chance of giving it a shake. They’ll feed off each other’s strengths, efforts and enthusiasm and probably end up becoming best buddies, like our intrepid trio did.
It’s just a hunch but I think tigers will rebound fast and embarrass the clubs still in the bottom 4No they won't. Richmond are still falling - they still have Nankervis, Vlastuin, Prestia, Short, Broard, Lynch to fall out of that side. Even Hopper and Taranto are getting on.
Norths core is much younger and they should be on the way up soon - just depends if they are good enough the reach finals or not.

Do you think that Sam has the self awareness that Clarko and Dimma did not have and could realise when the team is at the end of its run and to rebuild again? We ****ed about from 2017-2021 with Clarko. It wasn't a rebuild at all. Super frustrating at the time.
I honestly think Richmond learnt from us in that respect, post an incredibly successful period they pulled the trigger to rebuild much quicker. Dimma leaving probably helped them.
Our rebuild started in earnest with Sam from 2022. It's an enviable rise to this point, but we've achieved nothing yet.
I couldn't give 2 stuffs about Richmond, but they've done it well so far. Aggressive rebuild, exciting young talent and if you watched last year, a good coach and developing game style. Like with Sam, the players are all into what Yze is driving.
Add in fantastic off-field stability, MCG based, big fan base and I'd not be shocked at all if they follow a quick rise to finals like us under Sam.
Where we'd smack them of course.
North is a hot mess with no immediate out.
Did Dimma not realise this at Richmond? I feel like he did know the run was over but rather than say that he played it off as his own burnout knowing he’d easily be able to secure another senior coach gig.Do you think that Sam has the self awareness that Clarko and Dimma did not have and could realise when the team is at the end of its run and to rebuild again?
I feel like coaches can only do this once, and as they get older, they just lose it
Topped up with Hopper and Taranto et al and then up and left for a stacked side. Saw it was going to hell and left Yze in a shit position, for which Yze has been great.Did Dimma not realise this at Richmond? Scaled back massively from 'footy media'This. Watching the footy media and hoping for meaningful insight in this day and age is like switching onto MAFS hoping for genuine assistance for adults who are clearly ill-equipped to handle adult relationships.
