Review R1: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Collingwood

In my opinion, the most likely to be dropped would be Peatling & Pedlar. Dropping Bond makes no sense whatsoever, given the lack of height in the Bulldogs forward line. We need all the small-mid defenders we can lay our hands on.

Peatling dropped before Bond?

We beat the Bulldogs last year on their home deck with a backline of Butts, Keane, Max, Worrell, Laird, Hinge and Milera as our back 7. Why do we need Bond? Surely Murray is the replacement for Keane. Why can't we have someone better than Bond to replace Hinge?

So a key defender for a half forward/midfielder and that’s a structural change

Yeah ok.

Darcy, Naughton nand the Bont playing forward and you want to drop a key defender.

Yeah, ok.

Edit: on reflection, I’m now assuming you mean Toby Murray. I cannot see them changing that structure after a great away win. I’m assuming they will stick with McAndrew and Toby Murray for a few rounds, especially when that structure is working.

I agree that it’s doubtful that they change up the structure. So when Rankine comes in, I reckon it’s a mid or mid/fwd that makes way. Pedlar, I reckon, is the most vulnerable of that cohort.

Pedlar was one of the few players that showed up in finals. They really should stop dropping him every second game.

At the game and in M11 Bay it was feral city - one of the Crows fans got escorted out (you just can’t swear and think no consequences) but thankfully a large contingent of Crows in the area and when Keyes kicked that goal we all started waving their fans bye bye.

Saw Tex’s first game at the G vs Collingwood and saw what may be his last at G depending what happens this year.

Best in my opinion - Worrell and Milera - consistent thought out the game and cool headed

We headed off to the casino after game and had good win there as well.

Think I may have been mixing things up. I hate the protected zone, not the stand rule. The ones where a guy wanders into the zone but he's still nowhere near affecting the kicker.

I guess that if you don’t protect a zone, you’ll end up with strategy that does impact the player with the ball.

... and yet it is often right. Unfortunately for Daniel6, Bond wasn't the last one in.

In all likelihood, Turray was the last one in, preceded by Cook. Cook had a good game and definitely doesn't deserve to be dropped, and Turray was a tall on debut - highly unlikely to be dropped for Rankine on structural grounds.

Neither Peatling nor Pedlar will be dropped imo.

Nah, that'll always be Laird.

Laird is a great accumulator of possessions, not a single poster will disagree with that. But don’t forget that Matt Crouch was dropped and career ended after averaging near enough to 30 disposals at AFL level. There’s a bit more to the game than amassing meaningless possessions. And Laird’s are a lot more meaningless than Matt’s were.

When we play fast attacking football we are a massive threat to all teams, Nicks just need to have faith even if we are conceding some goals.

McAndrew was a massive plus, just shows the crap we’ve accepted under ROB.

I was at the pub so a bit distracted, I thought Bond did ok, yes Elliot kicked 2 goals but he only had the 5 disposals.

Tex stunk until he turned it on.

Overall a great first up effort and win, shows we will be a force again this year.

Even when we were quite poor coming out of our ‘2019 contending year’ into 2020 spoon, we looked pretty good when we played fast and overlapping football. We couldn’t maintain it long enough to contend, but it was very clearly the way that we needed to play. Even though we were only part of a season beyond our first spoon.

And we saw how being afraid makes us a poor side last evening. The question remains whether we can go balls out when shit starts to get real. I think that’s the only way you win 3 in a row in September against the other contenders.

I think we’ve got the group that can do it, but coaching is a massive component.

I know there needs to be a zone but 50m seems insane to me. I've rarely seen one called where it looked like the kicker was going to go anywhere near where the offending player was. It's usually a player at a 90 degree angle to the kicker so it's basically just a rule that protects Rory Laird.

He was still anti-keays when he moved forward and won a B&F.

You’re right. Keays was definitely a high end contributor in that year, it’s unarguable. I wasn’t far behind old mate on Keays value, but I definitely turned when he was moved out of the midfield. That said, if both Rankine and Draper were coming in this week, he’d be on the edge for mine.

Rankine is returning, who else then?

And he’s rarely been dropped without cause. Mostly it’s been injury impacted, but he’s never put a decent sequence of games together that puts his spot beyond discussion. I love the way he plays, but he’s the most obvious out, given the in, unless we adjust structure.[/QUOTE]

Thought there might have been a few more complaints about the Fox commentary, it was blatantly biased towards the Pies, in fact they were barracking for the Pies. Gary Lyon was a disgrace, couldn't have shown his bias more openly.
He is also boring and lacks insight. He should not be there to back one team against another. I loved winning but that part was also enjoyable, him having to say some positives about the Crows. I think he did anyway?

You were doing us proud 🙂
