par performance in general but definitely a birdie in effort....can't complain with Lynch and then nank going down so early

their backline is so we'll drilled they got sooooo much drive and their deep forwards were too potent. our 4 slow dogs in the middle tim, hopps, ross and dion broke just about even, when it was predicted that they would be destroyed. plenty of glimpses by the under 25s but they still need to get better with consistency of effort and performance over 4Q. sonzie might have shut a few people up today with some class and dash, and tresize looks pretty ordinary im afraid.

Sonsie had 3 disposals in the second half.

what is the club doing in regards to our ruck situation

nank is injury prone/ suspension prone and just about done and we have nobody to take over
We should also be looking at other clubs' secondary, up-and-coming rucks, like GWS' Nicholas Madden.
21 years old.
They have spent 3-4 years in the system, coming from the academy.

OHB for Nank
Fawcett for Lynch
Hopper for Kmc2
Faull for Brown/Broad

mjr gotta be on thin ice, he just doesn't do enough offensively but 4 changes is enough for now.

38 Clearances for 1 goal 4, Gold Coast 27 clearances for 6 goals 4. Our structure when we win the ball is horrible, just constant dump kicks or coughed up handballs. I'd guess GC got more scores from our clearances than we did. Can think of 4 times Hopper "won" the clearance and next possesion was a Gold Coast goal.

Been an issue for a while.

Seen a few posts saying Tresize should be dropped, feel thats a bit harsh he was great last week you cant drop blokes off one slightly sub par performance.

First quarter and a half was excellent then our older blokes just coughed up the footy time and again and we were 6 goals down and game over.

Injury list grows to 10 now and we’re only at round 2

All just bad luck but I’m reliably told
Definitely something has gone wrong with this fitness/conditioning staff
The bad luck excuse is garbage now

Spoon is well and truly back in play
We looked ok for a quarter and half then shat the bed, to loose , lost our pressure etc etc , seen at least 7 frees not given from 5 rows back from
The fence but the ump who is right there doesn’t call it 😂
Shit coast won’t win the flag either even with there CFL assisted draw . Our players make alot of errors turnover to much .
put our team in pies jumpers today and umps wouldve paid all those that they missed and 10-15 freebies as well and would result in a win

Stand !!!!! **** off biggest blight on the game how anyone thinks it’s good is beyond me frkwits
how many beers did you take a loan out with the $20 deposit for ?

They scored 66 points from our turnovers

What a magnificent day to be at the MCG. Game pretty much went to script, one side full of brilliant young players that have awesome chemistry from backline to forward line, and the other side with training wheels that went wobbly after Lynch went down.

Lynch is important to structure - yes the game has gone past him, but he needs to be out there to take the best backman and let our younger talls learn on lesser opponents. Suns banged on 6 goals unanswered in time on in the second and it was over by then.

Hopper spent most of his time walking from contest to contest. Tresize hesitated all game and Balta needs his eyes checked. Stupid errors like Green taking advantage and missing in the first or second qtr was just selfish.

We really need the likes of Fawcett, Faull, Gibcus, McAuliffe and Trainer to put pressure on the players that are already out of form. I did like Ross, Short and Taranto today - Rioli Jnr ran down a few but seldom rewarded. I liked LeFau's second half as he was prepared to at least contest in the ruck and around the ground.

Annoyed that we keep getting injuries - Would like the "real" selection headaches with Sims, Hotton, Smillie, Cumming being available and WTF is going on with Ryan ? Really missed Mansell today...

I'm going to have a typical whinge about the umps today - when there is a 50/50 - ball it up, or pay those frees 50/50 and not to one side only. The amount of times Suns players were caught in tackles and not pinged was Benny Hill style. Our frees were blown out by the new "last disposal" rule. Being a young side, give us a level playing field..

Out - Lynch (inj), Nank (inj), Tresize, Green, HRS (should be Hopper)
In - OHB, Fawcett, Faull, Alger, McAuliffe

Just get games into the kids and start looking for established midfielders to trade in.

I don’t like bagging players, but Hopper. Gezz…. it’s a hard watch. And while ultimately he puts out what he puts out, but whoever was behind the decision to give him the length of contract needs to share in the scrutiny. Seen enough, cut losses by however we can. That said, some good signs from the young-ins today. Future is fine, we just gotta persist.

Dimma is so polarising. I mean, he delivered everything a supporter would want 3 times, yet his legacy is tarnished IMO in a used car saleperson, snake oil sort of way. And to think, he has every AFL advantage in his hands now (his new toys). I probably should stop at that, but my final message, players make coaches, coaches are happy to be seen as the geniuses.

Has anyone suggested we recruit Jack Steele?
Just thought I’d drop it in the thread as I’m out of lead paint.

First quarter and a half I thought we were right in the game and were matching the Suns at the contest and despite some easy early goals for them we managed to limit the damage and had shown some good signs, then the Lynch injury happened and we lost all structure up forward and from then on it was like throwing a ball against a brick wall it was just coming straight back out.

Despite what the scoreboard said in the end I was pleased that we still kept at it and didn't just allow it to become a 15-20 goal thumping that it could very well have ended up. Now we're going to get a real glimpse into what the next 12-24 months hold especially if both Nankervis and Lynch are going to be missing for a month or more. Hopefully Yze takes the opportunity where we can to pump more games into some kids that could have a future.

Player Ratings:
1. Vlastuin - a bit rusty and off the pace early on but worked his way into the game. Better for the run

2. Hopper - struggling badly with the increased speed in the game. While I agree with the calls to drop him I don't see it happening just yet, especially if we're going to be lacking a bit of experience due to injury.

3. Prestia - lacking match fitness so spent a lot of time up forward with short bursts in the middle. Like Hopper I can see him being part of the side until we get some players back from injury.

4. Lalor - limited disposal impact in the first half but his work rate was still there which is important. Finished the 2nd half well enough ending with 17 & 1.2. Suffered a bit with the reshuffle in the 2nd half as he spent more time forward than in the middle.

5. Ross - his stat line reads well, but I barely noticed him in terms of a positive impact. For him to take the next step his impact needs to be greater.

6. Banks - like Ross I barely noticed Sam today which is not ideal for a rebounding defender, seems a bit lost with Short being the preferred distributor from the back half.

12. Miller - once the Suns were able to gain complete control through the midfield, our defenders were always going to be up against it.

13. Ralphsmith - thought he had some ok moments. Kicked a good goal and worked hard up and down the ground all game. Least of our worries at the moment.

14. Taranto - unlike Hopper he doesn't seem to be suffering as much. Led the midfield unit with a strong contested performance as he won clearances & laid plenty of tackles. Unfortunately his impact with his disposals wasn't where we'd like.

15. Short - has whipping boy status among some supporters and a few errors early on hurt but he was the only one of the rebounding options that kept trying to drive us forward. Like Hugo we've got more pressing areas to worry about.

17. Rioli - great chase down tackle on Daniel early was a highlight and his defensive work all game was impressive given how easy the Suns were able to control the footy in their D50 at times. Ended up playing on Mac Andrews late in the game given how badly our structure had been impacted.

19. Lynch - yet another injury that will limit his impact on the early part of the season. Was competing well enough before he went off.

21. Balta - like Miller was always going to be up against it once the Suns were able to do as they pleased heading into their forward line.

24. Grlj - a bit quieter in his 2nd game as he seems to be more focused on being defensively accountable for Lombard. Hopefully a bit of a shake up in our structure may see him getting a bit further up the ground.

25. Nankervis - another hamstring injury that is less than ideal, which will likely mean OHB gets his debut.

30. Brown - started down back and ended up as a forward when Lynch got hurt so gets a pass for today as it is hard to judge him when he was thrown all over.

34. Armstrong - will take some learnings from today having to play on Andrew/Collins for the 2nd half as our main KPF. Kept presenting and got the reward of a goal after a strong clunk in front of Andrew.

35. Broad - like the other defenders was always up against it as the Suns got the game on their terms still had some typical Broad moments to try and limit the damage.

36. Trezise - had a very quiet game and likely finds himself in the VFL next week given he has struggled to impact in the 2 games.

40. Sonsie - started strongly and was involved in a couple of our early goals and he looked like it could have been a bit of a breakout moment. Like a lot of teammates once the Suns gained control his impact waned but again the least of our concerns.

42. Lefau - got thrown to the wolves once Nankervis and Lynch went out as he was first ruck or playing KPF. Tried hard to the end.

44. Campbell - all things considered probably our best on the day. 19 disposals and 3 goals given the circumstances is a big return. Hopefully he can start getting some midfield time to give us a POD.

48. Green - not the same impact as last week which is understandable given the forward structure was horrible after Lynch went off, and with Alger having a big game in the VFL he could find himself swapping places with him next week.

Changes for next week

Out: Lynch Nankervis Green
In: Fawcett OHB Alger

I don’t care if there is no logical replacement for hopper. Give anyone a go- he can’t hold his spot after the first two rounds.
stats don't lie or maybe they do and idiots are idiots or maybe not so much, hopper had a couple of howlers and was very scrappy but plays at the coalface, stats say he got it 26 times with a DE of 57%. Lalor 17 times at 58% and Ross 24 times at 58%. ross and sam getting in our top 5 vibes and hopper getting cruicified. personally I thought Taranto, short, nank and campbell were our best and then daylight. sonsie great first half.
