Meanwhile in Adelaide..........................

Father and son. There's an article about it in the Guardian. However, do notice the ground it was played on, which might explain a few things..................
It's a small ground but not the only one in that competition. This is more a young and inexperienced team getting thrashed by a hero playing well below their level.

Fox had 90 minutes of highlights of this test last week. Fascinating to relive the peaks and troughs of it.

Couple of interesting things that jogged my memory:

1. Paul Adams bowling. How the hell was he able to control the ball with that action?
2. Matthew Elliot being run out by Steve Waugh in the 1st innings - only to then run out Mathew Hayden in our 2nd innings.
3. SAF were 190 odd ahead in the 2nd innings with all 10 wickets in hand. Then they lost 10-81. They really did bottle the match.
4. Dizzy Gillespie's 1st 5W/I haul in test cricket
5. Fantastic century from Mark Waugh who was crook throughout that innings.
6. At the end when Australia needed a further 15 to win with 5 wickets in hand, we then lost 3-10. I remember watching it live thinking we may get bowled out.

Also, the (Australian) TV commentators for the match were :

1.Terry Jenner
2.David Hookes
3.Dean Jones
4. Keith Stackpole

and....

5. Dennis Commetti

All of which have passed on sadly......

quite extraordinary they are all gone. I don't remember Commetti commentating cricket. On Foxtel was it? Then again i don't remember this game either - but sounds typical us losing 3/10 in what should've been an easy chase. But if SAF lost 10/81, there must've been some serious demons in the pitch

Game was on Fox. Its one of the reasons I still have it, the overseas tests and the footy...

Anyway, the pitch was ok. Fair bit of movement off the deck on the first day but apart from that it played all right.

Pitch was doing a bit according to #2 and #3.

Qld Premier Cricket GF from the weekend. Two golden ducks in the first over followed by a double and triple ton can't have happened many times before.
Amazing.

So the innings went like this:
1 run
Wicket
Wicket
629 Run partnership
Wicket
Declaration

:)

Also, two batters faced one ball each, and the other two batters faced 492 balls each. Nice symmetry.

foxtel had the rights to the first session, channel 7 had the rest of the day

(back in the day of course the majors only had 1 channel each, 7 didn't want to show the first session, therefore they onsold to fox8)

Jharkhand must have been impersonating the England bowling attack in that innings.
First-class record apparently, ie the most 50s in a f-c innings. Made even more impressive by the fact that only 9 players batted!
