I remember Saints fans telling everyone they'd be fine with Rohan Marshall as a forward/ruck. He has 0.2 from 3 games and looks awful.
Turns out, the guy who has comfortably played his best (and borderline elite) footy as a ruck, is not a gun forward...

He clearly HAS to be traded this offseason, will be interesting if the price is similar. Same with Merrett.

Your guys proved with Petracca that clubs will still pay up if a proven player has a down season and back themselves to fix them. I am very glad Marshall isnt at Geelong though...

Not true, there is a pattern of Gold Coast over paying for players. Freo should know because they recieved a very nice trade bounty for Lachie Weller, who did you end up drafting with pick 2? Andy Brayshaw.

If we look at the other side of that coin (Clayton Oliver), What did Melbourne recieve for him? Third rounder?

If the deal is right then sure, easier to sell to the club and supporters.

Gold Coast certainly helps. Oliver has been worth nothing for a while with his off field issues and contract so not a fair comparison. Not having to give up picks is a good enough win for Melbourne, id say he actually recouped some value from the prior year.

I think you'll still get something decent for him this year, though possibly not as much. Im interested to see how it plays out

We'd definitely want him to improve. Been really disappointing so far. The good news is it's round 4 and there's time for him to get better. He should be throwing his weight around and crashing packs more in the forward line.

Having him as a second ruck is very good (really hurt us that we didn't have him against the Dees) but he needs to do more with the rest of his time, although he's only having about 60% TOG.

It should be going better than it is that's for sure but there's time.

He's a good player but has never kicked more than 15 in a season - don't get why saints fans think he'll suddenly kick career best figures at 30 years old. I've had no issues with your recruiting and think you've drafted really well, but that King contract and lack of backup KPFs is going to sting.

They will be fine, everyone jumping on way too early.
I remember the wa paper shitting on Jackson after 4 games.
“Tens of thousands of dollars per mark”
He has ended up being AA squad all three years at dockers.
Even some one the caliber of Bolton stunk it up the first 12 months at freo getting the feel for everything.
He’s started 2026 all guns blazing and in our top few best players.
The worst that could happen is they have a down year and get another decent pick before Tassie and aim top 6 2027

Saints lookin pretty good to me. They obviously want to set up behind the ball in a sturdy manner, tick. They needed to add some flair and speed in ball movement, a work in progress and improving. Connection from back through middle is alright. Forward third is a bit weak, still working on that. They have a good system of all ground pressure.

Like all Ross teams, it's scoring. But with his mature mindset, I think he has more dare and risk about it.

Saints will be tough to beat for most teams. Brizzy had to bring their Agame q4. Until then a bit of an arm wrestle. They'll improve through the year, the foundation is there. Some unusual forward variations will be needed to catch out oppo and optimize possession.
