making 3 of the bottom 5 pay record prices after allowing top clubs to get players for nothing isnt equalisation its the complete opposite.
You are the first clubs. You won’t be the only clubs.

Hope it helps your understanding.

completly irrelevant to the next 5-10 years where the afl will be completly unbalanced.

Hope it helps your understanding.
The damage of unbalance is already done. Between Brisbane and GCs talent access they should pretty much raffle it for the next 5-10 years anyway.

Someone was going to be collateral damage.

As it stands you’ll probably get your FS from your natural pick anyway (as it should be)

So we continue the rort and the unbalance will always be 5-10 years away or put a stop to it now and the balance will begin to return.

Hope it helps. You aren’t the only club in the league. You are just the next club to realise its rebuild time.
From my perspective it's not about the rule coming in- I think we can all agree the rules needed tightening. It's about how quickly it's come in given teams need more time to plan trades etc.
Clubs can trade for players at the drop of a dime. See Sydney and Curnow. But you can’t get your draft picks organised?

😂

No.
We give teams the heads up that rules x and y will be coming in on such and such date a couple of years in advance. But a) that would require the AFL actually having common sense and not be the only sport in the world that makes changes on a whim.. and b) that ship has sailed so we we all know the rule is coming in this year. Had they given the proper heads up no team could feel hard done by. But dropping it on teams with no proper heads up feels amatuer. And let's not forget most in the media are pushing back saying it's been amatuer. Making a kid in the draft who's never played a game of footy at the top level worth 2+ first round picks is crazy.

You're probably the worst poster on all of BigFooty. The most patronising member on this site. Such a chirpy person 😂

Never actually get into a proper discussion on a topic and always throw in Snipes. Couldn't help yourself with the rebuild stuff could you when that's not what we were talking about. And I'm clearly aware there's more clubs. Stay classy.

This is your argument for why it’s wrong:

“ making 3 of the bottom 5 pay record prices after allowing top clubs to get players for nothing isnt equalisation its the complete opposite.”

When the rules getting changed and what they were getting changed to was flagged (September 2025) - you weren’t 3 of the bottom 5, it’s just ironic that it’s turned out that way.

So you won’t be the only sides to cop it. You will be the first. You aren’t the only clubs in the league and plenty in the last decade have been stiffed whilst rebuilding or attempting to.

Wait wait.

You have never said a bad word about my saints or another club on big footy? 😂

I get into plenty genuine and in depth discussions. But I do not have to agree and the argument about timing is purely self serving so you can land Walker without paying true cost.

And the rebuild stuff is relevant when Carlton fans want to cry that they are in the bottom 5 and it’s not fair.

There’s no snipe in there at all. Stop being so ****ing precious.

These changes have been broadly known due a few years now, I’ll give you the afl could have introduced them better but as you rightly point out the afl is mostly ****ing trash with these sorts of changes.

I never really take pot shots or cheap shots about other teams. Not personal ones anyway. I come on bigfooty mostly to be on the Blues board so I can share in the misery with them. But occasionally I venture off there to have proper discussions with footy fans. Not to cop cheap shots when I never in my post made it anything about my club or other clubs. It was about the short notice of it being implemented. I have no desire to get in a pot shot contest with you. I find no fun in that.

No Blues supporter that I'm aware of is saying it's unfair that we are in the bottom 5. The ladder doesn't lie and you find yourself where you find yourself.

That part is a clear snipe and nothing to do with me discussing the rules implementation and time frame. If you don't see that then I don't know what to say. Talk about the issue at hand and have a proper convo or go to Bay 13 or back to your own board to stir things up.

Seems pretty accurate to me also very much on topic given the discussion about drafting and access to talent. I’d suggest the better advice would be grow up or get off the internet but whatevs.

If you say so. I came here to discuss the rules with footy fans and there are some great ones on this site. I didn't come into this thread to be lectured on their being 17 other teams. Or told that we're entering a rebuild. I know that. No need to try to be a douche and stir things.

You're so hard aren't you telling people to grow up when I was the mature one not making things personal.

Anyway you win because I have no interest staying in this 'conversation'. Whatevs.

A Carlton fan literally said this:

“making 3 of the bottom 5 pay record prices after allowing top clubs to get players for nothing isnt equalisation its the complete opposite.”

That would fit the bill for saying it’s “unfair” and it’s not “equalisation”.

Whilst simultaneously completely ignoring every club was made of aware of what’s coming this year and what it looks like in September.

I guess that person is saying he/she finds it unfair that the rule is coming in at this time. I highly doubt they are suggesting it's unfair we are a bottom 5 team and if they are, as we all know every team has silly supporters. Being bottom 4 is our own doing no argument against that. We are horse crap.

The rebuild and the fact there are 17 other clubs is entirely relevant to the discussion.

There are far more clubs who needs this equalisation then clubs who need the rort for a year or two longer.

It’s not always about Carlton and its needs - which is somehow conveniently forgotten about.

If you want to have the conversation, let’s go.

Your club said nothing as Stkilda Melbourne North West coast just to name a few all came off significantly worse due to this rort.

Your club stayed silent.

You spoke up when it was your turn and you were going to miss out.

It’s all self serving garbage and it makes it very hard for fans of other clubs and other clubs leaderships to support your cause.

Tell me, you get another year or 2 of this Rort. What’s the fix for North Stkilda or Freo who haven’t benefitted from it and won’t in that time?

So I very clearly wasn’t attacking you. It’s very relevant to this conversation with any Carlton supporter

I would love to see the reality of what these rules would have done to Brisbane in 2023 when Ashcroft and Fletcher were on their way to them.

They would have needed to trade and once that’s on the table you’re talking about guys integral to both flags.
They wouldnt have been able to recruit Dunkley either.

Yeah it's all about poor me, poor me I support a minnow team so I'll have a go at supporter base I clearly hold angst towards for some reason. At least that's how it comes across. There's some animosity you hold towards big clubs. Your team was impacted in the past so you think it's only fair other teams suffer too? The AFL want to tighten the rules to be fairer. I'm on board with that. But if they want fairness they should also make it come into effect on a couple of years. And I'm not saying that just because I'm a Blues supporter. A rule like that can't be so haphazardly implemented.

This issue isn't about what club gets impacted. It's about clubs needing years to plan when picks get traded years in advance. Clubs need time to plan.

I agree there is no perfect time to bring the rule in. But at the very least it should have had a concrete date set years ago. Or a concrete date set a year or two into the future so clubs can adequately plan. How many years can you trade picks in advance now.. is it 2? If that's the case the rule should come in 2 years form now.

Anyways that's my say. And thanks to the snipes and such I'll head off. Maybe I need to grow up. Apparently I'm not a well articulated poster.

I noticed you didn’t touch on how to compensate the sides who have never benefitted whilst writing a lengthy reply on how you should benefit under the guise of “fairness”.

So let’s answer that question.

And when you realise that you can’t. You’ll quickly understand that the clubs penalised are not just Carlton port or Essendon. It’s also Freo, North, Stkilda, Melbourne etc.

The victim mentality is wild here.

We’re all at once a minnow an axe to grind but also powerful enough to be ****ing your club over specifically.

We’ve been calling the lions out and copping shit for it being personal with them, we dropped the nepo babies comment last year which was also personal and now it’s a Carlton thing.

Could just be we think the rules suck

The clubs who have been impacted in the past are unlucky. I'm not denying other clubs have been impacted. The past is the past. Doesn't mean we need to throw a few more clubs into the mix though huh..

You seem to be coming at me like I think Carlton is the only team that exists and that I'm solely thinking this is only Carlton getting shafted or that I look down on other clubs. Teams have been shafted before. Teams will be shafted again. My argument is that this should be implemented in a few years time, not because we stand to benefit if that happens. But it's just the right thing to do for fairness for all clubs. Even media personalities who typically hate Carlton have come out and said as much.

The real question here is why do you carry so much hatred towards Carlton? It's obvious you have a distaste for us for some reason. Or maybe it's not a Carlton thing. Maybe it's just you hate all big clubs and think you've been done harshly in the past? Just trying to understand you because you string sentences together well enough (more than most on here) and actually seem to have some level of footy intelligence that you could have some pretty good convos with people but you seem to waste that potential and rather attack the man.

“Right thing to do for the fairness of all clubs”

What benefit is everyone getting from this aside from Port Carlton or Essendon?

“The clubs who have been impacted in the past are unlucky. I'm not denying other clubs have been impacted. The past is the past. Doesn't mean we need to throw a few more clubs into the mix though huh..

You are right here. The past is the past. No need for the league to continue the rort any longer. It’s done enough damage to the competition

And my issue with Carlton is its board - who wanted to kill my club and its supporters, who are the most arrogant yet have the softest exterior in the league.

And funnily enough, the Essendon fans who have weighed in on this topic have been fantastic. They genuinely get it.

Carlton and Port 👎

I actually have no issue at all with the blues personally and until today I didn’t realise so many of them were such fragile flowers.

You can toss Lions supporters into the mix on this subject. Absolutely delusional about it.

I’d respect both lots a lot more if they just admitted they like it cause it benefits them (Brisbane in particular)
