Bailey should stay. We just need the players to do what Vossie and the boys did with Robert Copeland after 2001 Premiership. Take him for a fishing weekend and tug on the brothers in arms heart strings. Bailey has to decide if he’s happy with three Premierhips (after we win this year) or does he want to be a member of the greatest team in AFL history and maybe be part of 4 or 5.

A 6 or 7 year contract on $1m+ is still not a bad earner… get some sound financial & taxation planning, that will set him up for life. Add in the infinite cashies at sportmans night those immortal Lions who have 3+ premiership medals, life post football doesn’t look too bad.
With Lachie likely heading off into the sunset in the next couple of years, Bailey could be next in line for a Cash Converters ad, the occasional Macca’s promo, haemorrhoid creme endorsement - the world is his oyster.
(Though i don’t think Ashley & Martin will be calling anytime soon with his beautiful thick crop on top).

Bailey also benefits from the players around him at Brisbane. Given his role, if he was at a lesser club, his performance may tail off considerably. The sum is always greater than the individual parts. I would be surprised if Ah Chee or Starcevich even come close to their career best form at Adelaide or West Coast.

Zac has won 2 flags, and could potentially win a third this year. His next contract will set him up for life and given he's achieved the ultimate success, I would say the chances of him staying is really low. I've already accepted that he will leave, so it doesn't really bother me anymore. In fact, I knew he was going to leave last year as well.

If he goes, he goes. Frees up $$$ and means we can up offers to players like Morris, Coleman, McCluggage, Wilmot, Fletcher and the Ashcrofts when they become due.

How do people feel about moving Hipwood on, so we can keep putting games into Gallop and free up some more $$$

I’d rather keep Hipwood. Big men who can play are hard to come by, and you never know what injury hits us next.
He signed a long term contract end of 2022, so i can’t imagine he’s on big $’s by today’s standards.
At the end of his contract then he takes a big cut to stay (obviously contingent on fitness and form when the time comes), so can probably backend some of those other contracts. Other big name players on the list will be moving past 30 at that stage too.

I don't think the club would consider it unless Hippy requested a move, then maybe a trade can be arranged.

Hippy contracted till 2029 on what wouldn't be big money on the present salary cap.
Mobile goal kicking KPF's like him don't grow on trees as the saying goes.

Gallop is only 20 with a premiership already in the bag.
His debuted was in round 13 of 2025. Then he has played in every game since R24 last year
So, it's not like he will be going anywhere and has shown he can possibly play defense.

I agree. If Gallop keeps improving to the point where he is a lock and Allen hits peak form, I don’t know where you fit Hipwood in. I’m presuming his money is too good to have him running around in the reserves. But with Allen, Rayner, Morris and Gallop up forward, not a lot of room for an extra tall.

Anyway, it’s a nice problem to have. Let’s hope Hipwood recovers well and when restored to full fitness, he also finds his best form. 👌

You want to try and keep your good players, so hope Bailey stays, especially if Neale leaves. Whilst we have some talent coming through everybody looks better in a good team. Good fortunes can change all too quickly. However paying a couple of players over the nominal pay range can create more problems then keeping.

I still have Hippy over Gallop, he would be an instant in for Ty in the forward line at the moment. Gallop just isn't having an impact on the scoreboard a forward should be.

Just in case anyone needs reminding,
Hippy has kicked 287 goals in 199 games.

As Section 5 said above, goal kickers this prolific 'Don't grow on trees'

Average afl salary is $505k

I'd be shocked if hippy is on more than $600k. Could be less. We would get very little cap relief and maybe pick 50?

Has just done a knee so let's see how he comes back.

Has played every role we have asked of him without hesitation including getting split in half in the ruck.

Has played decoy forward through injury.

Has also hit absolute purple patches in 2024 and 2025 before injury. Got us going in that dogs match that started our run with a ripping performance

he was hope through some dark years

Had that great 2022 finals series

Kicked the goal in 2024 that weirdly enough sealed it (imo)

Academy player

Heart and soul

Do not understand this call!

end rant /

Hipwood is almost the last player on the list you trade. Proven senior player. Apparently on a very good deal $$$ wise for the club. Would not net much in a trade.

Just quietly, we'll have a serious problem next year in terms of keeping Morris. Unless he signs early this year, there'll be some massive offers rolling in for him. Keeping Hipwood as our steady hand along with Allen and young Gallop would be our likely way forward.

I actually like what Gallop is starting to show in defense. He can become a serious contributor once he gets his timing right on when to go and when to be smart about it. The way he almost took Dunkley's head off going for the spoil shows he'll bulldoze through any pack to get a spoil in. Great signs.

My guess is Logan will end up at either TAS, Geelong or pies.

One of those clubs will make a crazy offer.

It would be a big hit but he already has 2 premierships (hopefully 3 by next year) and we can’t afford to give him a huge payday, he could get massive offers and for team balance I dont think we can match them. I really hope I am wrong but I think his offers will be absurd.

Not saying we should throw a ridiculous offer his way that blows the entire cap but I’d be comfortable making him our highest paid player. He’s a rare talent

Geelong are reputed not to do that. They offer lifestyle and success - same as us.
Collingwood - tread carefully. They do offer massive contracts, then they implode.
TAS - genuine fear. They have money to offer like no other team in history, and no established stars to worry about.

Morris is the player worth us paying overs for.

Geelong will do $500kpa but he’ll own $20m in farmland in his mums name or something.
