I wouldn't play this week, but professional athletes have a way of compartmentalising things.

I know some players were ready to go 2 days after Walshy passed away, others certainly werent. Losing a brother is different of course, but part of me wouldn't be shocked if Dawson played.

Yeah, get that but a loss this week nearly puts a fork in our year. This game is super important and a must win
Honestly? I couldn’t GAF. People’s lives matter a whole heap more than footy.

What do you mean the football result this week is unimportant? That’s garbage. It’s still massively important to the club, Saints are a fellow side around that 5-10 mark. You don’t just down tools because an employee’s family member died. The impacted workers get looked after, everyone else needs to continue doing their jobs to the level usually expected, or higher.
That's not how teams of people best function however.

Because he’s played better footy at half back in the past. Just because we were desperate for a wingman, so plonked him there, doesn’t mean he’s not still a good half back. You know, the role that he played at GWS that had us cough up the big contract to get him over.

Just about every outside mid plays better footy at half back.

No club is desperate for a winger. It was a gamble to get another quality experienced body in to try to get us over the hump, nothing more (especially on a contract which will likely end up on AFL average wages in the back end of the deal, noting the rate of change of the salary cap and we're due another round of CBA in 2027). Equally, Cummings had already moved to wing prior in his GWS days, playing out the back end of 2023 and what he was healthy in 2024 there.

It's a gross move because it results in us moving our currently less capable outside midfielder into a more important role. The player who should be moved is Cook, he's showing he's got the game right now to be a high quality winger. Those are the players who explode into the elite tier at half back. After all, half back is easier. I would go so far as to say it is a loser club that keeps a guy like Cook on wing and moves Cummings to half back, because it shows they're not prioritising the main positions which dictates success in this game. After all, half back is the one that controls speed/direction of ball movement as it is one of the earliest contact points after a turnover. Wing doesn't do that, it's supplementary.

Is that good or bad? Can you see Nicks coaching us in a GF? Might as well do a 2024, tank for good picks before the draft concession and Nicks get sacked. I would also trade Berry and Butts to move up our 1st rounder and that 2nd rounder that Brisbane knocked back will be quite early as well. Win, win, win.

Thinking a loss is good when we are 2 and 3, undermanned, had a hard draw, and only played good footy in patches is a loser mentally, a win is even more important now our captain is suffering a family tragedy, imagine how much extra stress a ****ed up season would put on him.

Nicks would in all probability be still coaching next year anyway.

Nah rather win

A niggle in the back end of a 6 day break on back to back road games isn't generally ideal. But i'd be surprised if he's not playing.

His walk off the deck at the end of that clip didn't look overly restrictive.

Did anyone see if Cook was running with the mids or the backs this week.

I'd not be against us shuffling him back and letting someone else run the wing. Generally our HBFers get a hell of a lot more footy in their hands then our wingers. And i'd like to see Chef with ball in hand as much as possible.
