Toast Round 7 = Essendon 60-137 Collingwood

Great performance - Essendon had a good 3 to 4 weeks so was nice to blow them away.

Pendles wound back the clock - people were saying he was 26-1 to win the medal. At half time he was 9-2 which I find truly bizarre. At half time I thought it was down to Pendles or Roberts for the medal.

Anderson stepped up his game in that third term. Going to be very hard to take him out.

The real audit comes next week.

We have kicked 27 goals in the last 5 quarters. It seemed that that last quarter against Carlton was the enema we needed to unblock us.😀Hopefully it will be a real turning point in our season.

The idea of Carlton as a laxative is...strangely apt.

They certainly give their own supporters the shits.

It was so refreshing to enjoy the last quarter without the worry of having hear failure. Pendles = 🐐

Pendles & Sidebottom winning the last two Anzac Day medals is so funny. Man, have they tortured that club for years
Good.

They deserve it. Anyone who grew up in the inner north suburbs can vouch. Bombers supporters are a feral pest.

Show no mercy!

Also our youngsters got good experience playing in front of 90K
Essendon’s youngsters also got good experience in what it’s like playing in a final for the Bombers

That was fun - the second half. The first half was pretty much un-re-watchable. The number of fumbles and dropped marks was strange for such a perfect dry day against a team applying very little pressure.

Thankfully the fumbles disappeared in the second half.

I think we hit the post 6 times.

Great win. Yes Essendon are dreadful, but it was good to get a little bit of a confidence booster and some goals under our belt.

Tough run ahead, but at least we did the minimum required by beating both Carlton and Essendon.
Let's not forget this terrible Essendon side beat a very handy demons team and just missed out on a win over the GC on their home deck.

This is a very significant win.

The 3rd quarter was when we blew them away, and it was brilliant. The opposition wilted, but it was due to the massive energy we unleashed.

But don't discredit the 2nd quarter. We should have definitely put them away then. Our control of the game was absolute. It was poor goal kicking that turned 5.2 into 1.6. Connection was re-established, but execution wasn't.

In the 3rd quarter, execution was also re-established

The confidence and optimism we will gain from this game is even more valuable than the percentage boost.

Our team defence is second to none.

Our forward line and its connection with the mids took a great step forward today. The players have now actually acted it out. Now it is a question of reproducing what they know they can do.

The joy for Pendles shown by the team today was just exhilarating. This team knows the genius standing in their midst, and loves him for it. He is an inspiration to them all.

The final quarter was a bruise free training drill, which is the perfect preparation for next week.

Would like to note finally the performances of Beau McCreery and JDG.

Beau McCreery: looked today like he is now ready. After a disrupted and short preseason, I think today he announced that his season is now about to start.

JDG: A few brilliant efforts today, and hit the scoreboard. First step, and it was an important one.

Also: Oscar Steene and Naicos... these two are might be creating something very special.

I’m overwhelmed, just like Pies2023, really should have been 100 pts in the end but a hot Esse just got schooled by the most experience team in the game. Could talk about the usual suspects but for it was good to see a more confident All Australian game from Houston today

Keep playing Hayes, Anderson, Steene and Steele ( maybe Long for more grunt) and get their confidence up

Moore and Bobby will be the gravy on top

A win next weeks over the arrogant Dorks will make my year

Skunk & McStay just holding on with West & Buller ready to go

Lost a bit of faith over the start of the year, and not getting carried away by a long shot

But that was enjoyable

Interesting point raised here in a post match review by a journo.

The idea that the Magpies of 2026 are Daicos or bust, though not unsound, gained legs after their drubbing in Brisbane when the superstar was the latest of late withdrawals.

Lost in the takes after that game was Pendlebury’s absence. At the age of 38, he remains just as important to the Pies as their best player Daicos, not least because of the value he brings with his experience and calming presence. Notably in last week’s win over Carlton, the Pies were at their worst in the second term when Pendlebury was on the bench getting a rubdown.

So essentially it's no Nick and Pendles bust as evidenced by the Brisbane blowout.
