Actually would not surprise me at all if Cripps retires before the MSD
If that happened and we could snag NHH alongside a couple of 21-25 year olds who can tackle, that would be a pretty solid midseason draft.

VICTORIAN clubs are circling West Coast midfielder Elijah Hewett as the young Eagle weighs his future.

Hewett is out of contract at the Eagles, who have put forward a new deal to take him through to free agency.

But the 21-year-old hasn't been in a rush to sign as a number of clubs in Victoria closely track the former first-round pick with interest.
This isn’t going to end well if he leaves.

Can’t even keep the young local lad.

The cajones on the kid negotiating a lengthy contract extension, insinuating he's in demand, all while racking up single digit possession counts after being gifted a spot in the seniors he didn't deserve based on WAFL form?

The young local lad that is made of tissue paper, I wouldn’t be fazed if he left , tbh it would probably be good for both parties. Good riddance.

Literally the reason why where in this position, players thinking highly of the selves and demanding expensive long term deals and the club being stupid enough to fall for it.

Why would he walk away from half a years pay?
I am sure he would get paid out by the club if things went down that road.

Why would he want to do it? Maybe if the club told him he was going to be delisted at the end of the year anyway and that they wanted to give younger players a chance for the rest of the year so if he played out the season it would be in the WAFL unless we had a spate of injuries.

Not saying i expect that to happen. But it is possible.

HBFer with concussion issues?
Mid ×2 or mid and KPD please

Our second pick is going to be in the low teens - at that point you’re just searching for the best talent and NHH would be worthy of consideration

Let me guess he is in the Colin Young Stable.

Would be on brand negotiating through the media.

I’m happy to be corrected here. I was of the belief the players still got their yearly salary if they retire mid year, it was discussed elsewhere about players hanging on until just before the season starts to do this. I can find countless examples.

Happy to be proven wrong. I’ve never looked into it too deeply

I would have thought that if the decision has been made that he is not considered best 23 for the remainder of the season and is likely to see lots of WAFL action they would feel they owe it to him to tell him that and give him the option of playing a last game or two now in the seniors as a farewell and retiring mid season if he wants to. Let him decide what he wants to do and how he wants to go out.

I’d be okay with that. He’s been a tremendous servant of the club and it isn’t like we’re in a position to be ruthless for the sake of pushing for finals.

The obvious KPD acquisition is Butts, but we can also go towards Caleb Graham and Charlie Ballard off the Gold Coast easily, and one I forgot to mention in my long post is Hugh Davies being out of contract at Freo. Claremont boy and arguably one of the better KPD at WAFL level. Hard to see them parting with him but we should be first in line for him given he is a WA boy and only 21.

I was of the opinion, that if you're pushed, nudged out, you get your full payment.
Like Steven May.

If on the other hand you just decide you've had enough, you don't.

Will stand to be corrected though.

Edit# I'm pretty sure Cripps has said previously he's ok playing WAFL and helping the kids.
I can't see him pulling the pin TBH.

Perhaps a teeny, tiny bit much there.

VFL watchers. I am looking at new rucks to refresh our stocks. What are your thoughts on these two options?

1. Taylor Goad is back from injury now and has played 4 games. He wont get a game ahead of Xerri for the next few years, so you'd think he could be tempted away from North. Do we table a god father offer to him? SA lad, huge at 207cm and quick for a ruck I recall, not a bad mullet as well. He has played 40 vfl games up to this point, no AFL behind Xerri. He would be in his fourth year should he come to us which would mean he better suits our timeline than say a HVH in the draft this year.

I am of the opinion that rucks, unless you have a Gawn, aren't that crucial to success, but you need to have a guy who can at least tap it to our players advantage unlike B.Will. Goad's VFL stats here. One game on managed minutes back from injury I'd assume and then 2 good games out of 3. What is he like in the VFL? Worth throwing some cash on potential?

2. Kayle Gerreyn at the dons for depth. From WA out of contract and 200cm. Could be a good development player / back up option for the ruck, but also now appears to be playing some time as a KPD, so some further depth and versatility there for a late token pick you'd think. How is his development tracking?

Ruck roster in 2027:

Outs
B.Will to go, or traded if we match
Barnett to go
J.Williams if he seeks a trade

Ins
Goad #1 option 207cm - 22 yrs old
A.Reid # 2 option 203cm - 22 yrs old
Duff-Tytler #3 option 200cm - 20yrs old
Flynn #4 option 202cm - 28yrs old (WAFL)
Kayle Gerreyn #5 option 200cm - 21yrs old (WAFL)

2027 may be tough for Goad, Reid, and CDT but after that season you would have three young players who physically should be able to handle the rigors of a season and on a similar trajectory to Ginbey, H.Reid, Duurs, etc.
