Just my view but I'd select as follows (I'll assume gospel is true and all mentioned players are declared fit)
In - Dangerfield, Holmes, Duncan
Out - Mullin, Simpson, Bews
(Bruhn also out of 22 but plays as sub).
Comfortable to leave Bowes 1 more week.
Port don't have overly dangerous...
If there was no bye week id acknowledge their wave of momentum from that win would be bIg, but the bye week helps us this year...takes some air out of the momentum in their sails..and gives us players back from the late season bumps that popped up.
Yeh Zuthrie has to play for me. Probably been our best mid sized defender in 2nd half of year.
Below is based on being unsure if Stanley can play..
Cameron for Esava
Duncan for O' connor
Miers medi Sub
Unsure what to do with Menegola, in best 22 no doubt but has had no contunuity alllll year...
Best outcome for us. Playing the worst team in the 8.
I was worried about running into Freo if they got their legs back from a bye week on the G, would have scared me...and didnt want Sydney first up.
Think we will keep collingwood to a low score and win by about 7 goals. 90 to 50 type score
I think therr is a defensive mid role for him in 2nd half of the year. But acknowledge he needs to improve his kicking, doesnt look confident...that 2nd qtr chip inside 50 missing hawkins on a lead should be a lay up. He needs to improve that aspect..
But i like his close inside work and strong...
I thought Isaac Smith was best yesterday. Had so much impact with his 22 posessions. broke lines and had that long transition disposal.
Him, Stengle and C Guth the stand outs to me
I wonder if Melbourne float playing Hibberd. He has a touch more size should they need some depth against our talls.
If they are one short down back for size and as a result one of our key bigs start damaging they also may need to move MacDonald back.
Will be so key for Esava and Rohan to...
Id go Simpson for Parfitt next week, send Simpson to a defensive fwd role on salem. He sets up alot of of their transition play. Close him down.
We dont have a genuine inside mid replacement call up so midfield will need to be covered within (Dangerfield, Selwood, Guthrie, Duncan, Menegola...
2nd year in a row we will play a Semi final with our opponent coming off a 1 point elimination final win.
I say change up the structure.
In Tuohy and Esava
Out O'Connor and Dahlaus
Blicvas perma back. Esava split time with Stanley in ruck/deep fwd.
For those who arent already over these stats Under Chris Scott in Finals Geelong is 6 wins 5 losses in finals where the Cats AND their opponent both did not have a bye the week before.
Slightly better than 50 50, by removing any bye week factoring either way
What to do woth O' Connor? I doubt he tags a mid. Maybe sit on robbie gray. Need to ensure gray and rozee are accounted for. Think he should go to one.
* that hurts.
I have no idea if we can take learnings from it when the heat is on next week, on what not to do...but i hope we can.
Its been a while since a team has lost their last game, then gone on to win flag. Momentum and confidence is not with us.
If Dogs win the Demons are guaranteed a top 2 finish ....thats the scenario i want to see for their selection. Reckon bulk late outs the morning of our game, to give themselves a bye without risk.
In my view i think we need to assess what weve done wrong in our losses...in 3 of the 4 we have started slow.
I think if we can tie or lead any final we are in, our gamestyle takes over rest of way.
BUT at times this year i still see some tendencies as ive seen in finals past, slow 1st...
Id give Simpson the task. He seemed steely and strong at the contest last night. Had a great 1st qtr. Seems like he could be smart with his positioning to keep Rich in check
What should be our 1st qtr strategy?
Take the sting out of the crowd and get the uncontested marks going? Keepings off style..
Hit them hard in the first 10 mins and make a statement after their week off?
Combo of both?
Did i hear Steven got injured in the scratch match and is out for year (hammy?)
If so then id make 1 change.
Esava for Henry.
Henry looked a dear in headlights and dont see a great matchup for him. Who will be the defensive match ups...
Taylor->Mihochek
Henderson->Cox
Bews-> Elliott...
Geelongs goal scoring in last 4 first finals.
2017 vs Richmond - 5 Goals
2018 vs Melbourne - 6 Goals
2019 vs Collingwood - 7 Goals
2020 vs Port - 5 goals
YIKES.
God hes a bad coach.
Unprecedented...but sack him mid week, put scarlett is as interim?
( Note i havent thought if contracts pay outs etc)
That centre square set up with the game on the line of Atkins, Dalhaus, Duncan.might be the worst coaching decision in AFL history.
Typical Scott...
I think if were gonna win this game its going to have to be a 10 goals to 8 tyoe match.
As important as hawkins replacement is, 80% of our planning should be defensive structures to firstly not allow that pagans paddock type knock on play they like to run with, then secondly keeping lynch/...
Who covers their two bigs?
Blix to Riewoldt
Taylor to Lynch
??
If lynch gets on top of Taylor (or we badly need to swing taylor fwd..) hen Blicvas to Lynch, Kolo to riewoldt?
Dont get too high when you win, Dont get too low when you lose.
I hope thats the teams mentality this week. Cant go into a final lacking confidence, still have to belive in our ability
I was annoyed during the match last night. But still optimistic we can win this week, then worry about a...
Out of curiousity where has henderson been playing in the 2s? Back or fwd...
Would be a sign of where he might find a spot if he gets selected.
Only for an injury if its defense.
Id think about him at CHF in the weeks we have a softer match up to check it out.
I wouldnt move Taylor Fwd. Our...
