Player Watch #1: Nick Vlastuin

Hmm, I don't think you're wrong when looking at the last few weeks. I just think it's dangerous to take out a proven goal kicker in a team which doesn't have many for an 18 year old who so far is goalless.

We were up and about in the third because Bolton became that hit up player, Lloyd is the only other one who has ever looked like that and he is in shocking form. I'd be keeping Bolton over Georgie because he has far more upside and still doing as much around the ground. Yes he needs to kick goals but I reckon that'll come and its not like Castagna has been brilliant, since round 6 he has had 3 games with zero goals, 2 with 1 tackle and 3 with less then 10 touches.

Why would we drop a small forward for a hbf? Positionally menadue is the one who gets dropped for vlastuin

The change isn't always going to be like for like. If Vlastuin comes in for Castagna/Bolton it just means that the remaining small forwards will have longer stints on the ground depending on how we want to structure up.
Vlastuin also has the ability to rotate through the mid and forward lines but his best position is in the backline.

For me Lloyd is the player that didn't deliver last night, Vlastuin if ready will be in and Miles has been performing well but our midfield was good and no place for Miles yet.

Vlastuin can play in a variety of positions so he would be back

For mine Vlastuin comes back in to play up forward rotating through the middle with Caddy which is how we structured up to start the season. Caddy and Vlastuin are both big bodies who can take a good contested grab and are difficult match ups as you can't put a small on them because of their strength and can't put a tall on them because of their agility when the ball hits the ground. Add Dusty into the mix and you have 3 very dangerous mid sized options who can hurt the opposition when isolated deep forward but also have the ability to rotate through the middle as well meaning we don't lose anything there either.

For mine Lloyd is the one who makes way if we're looking at who best suits our forward set up. Bolton has speed, defensive pressure and a bit of X factor about him which alongside the likes of Butler Castagna and Rioli gives us a point of difference up forward.

That Ned Kelly beard scares his opponents away. He's been outstanding . I don't know if it's my eyes playing tricks with me , but since I stood beside him last year and watching him now he looks to have grown. The guy is a beast.

I wasn't initially a fan of it, but it's won me over

How good has this guy been since coming back from injury.

Has been fantastic on the HB line with his contested marking and rebound. His fends have been Dustylicious too.

Yep, lets put the whole Vlastuin to the midfield tripe behind us. He is an amazing backman. Future AA IMO :thumbsu:

Absolutely.
Such a natural footballer. Reads the play very well. Never looks flustered.
Massively underrated outside of our club. If we can some how win a flag in the next few years he will be noticed as a Hodge type. Never beaten in the air or the ground, solid tackler, good user...just a gun.

If we win a flag he has Norm Smith written all over him.
I don't think he will fly under the radar beyond 2018. He is starting to look a class above. Put another pre season under him and he will be noticed by plenty.

Never doubted he would return to his best when back in his 'best' position, across half back!

I still don't understand why people wanted him in the midfield.
