Dogs get - Pick 1, Taylor Adams.

Gws get their blue chip key defender with 10 years ahead of him. Higgins is a buy-low throw in for them. If his foot comes good, he improves them immediately. They can pick up sheed or dunstan at pick 5 to replace Adams.

Dogs get the key forward they need in Boyd, and another quality young mid in Adams. Losing roughead would hurt. No obvious replacement on the list. Perhaps a second trade for Mitch brown, or develop fletcher Roberts as a key back.

No way Bulldogs will trade Roughead. Speaking to Daniel Cross a few weeks back he said he could be a future captain which screams volumes as to how much the Dogs rate him.

Having said that, I'd sell my soul before I saw Joe Daniher traded to GWS for the #1 pick.

Nah, GWS didn't bid on Daniher. It was Richmond IIRC, someone right before pick 10.

Having said that, I have no doubt they'd have taken him in those top 3 picks if he was available so the difference is largely academic.

Melbourne - No tradeable commodity - Frawley with a highish draft pick might get it done
Bulldogs - Griffen might get it done with a second round pick
Brisbane - Like someone said before - Berger might be enough
Gold Coast - surely GC would jump if offered #1 for Bennell.
Saints - McEvoy plus change might get it done. Other stars are too old
Carlton - would be willing to give up Brock, but only Brock
North - Not sure if a combination of their stars would be enough to get the #1. Goldstein would be the closest

Frawley is worth number 1 to a team that need a KPD to build a defence around.

And GC would be crazy to give up Bennell for pick 1, he was what pick 3 - with three years of development and he will be a gun. Not worth the risk.

Its incredibly hard trading for pick 1 because obviously the value of pick 1 is that of a superstar. If GWS were to trade pick 1 they would be wanting a elite player ie) pendlebury, murphy, dangerfield, fyfe etc. However with pick 1 being an untried player who is yet to play an AFL game teams would be unwilling to give up their guns as it safer for the team as they are already reliable players, meaning no risk.

People saying Chris Judd wasnt even worth pick 1 is incorrect, its a completely differant situation. In that case the Superstar Player wanted to leave, and also carlton still had a better off than any other team anyway so we cant really determine if they would have budged if a team offered a better deal.

And if you look at it the other way and say if carlton offered pick 1 to west coast for Chris Judd. Would West Coast accept it? I would say No they wouldnt have as Judd was already a gun and pick 1 is speculative.

With that in mind i would say pick 1 isnt worth as much as some would say. I would say unless a Superstar player (like the ones mentioned above) from a side wants to walk out i dont really see anyone offering enough to satisfy GWS.

I think the only teams that would be able to satisfy GWS demands would be a team with a pick around 2-6 who also offered a good player. Frawley himself is not worth pick 1 but i would say if melbourne had say pick 8 then together that would be worth pick 1. But obviously melbourne will have a pick a lot earlier than that.

In saying this i dont really see anyone being able to satisfy GWS demands, because no team will want to give up a superstar unless they wanted to leave.

If Minson would get the number 1 pick across the line we would trump you with Goldy. Not much between them this year but being 4 years younger makes Goldy more appealing.

Boyd is going to be a superstar. There would not be much I would knock back for the number 1 pick.

Technically his contract expires next year but thats based on him passing a medical and the Saints taking the option. As I understand it he cant walk unless we allow it which puts the ball in our court.

Of course he could "Luke Ball" the medical, and get out of it that way maybe?

I thinks its a pretty fair trade - We grab Boyd and a pretty good mid at 20, the Giants get an experienced mid/hbf with elite kicking skills as well as another inside gun at 3.

That would be a more than fair deal I would have thought. You'd be very confident of getting someone at least as good as Sloane with pick 2 and you effectively get Watts (who would slot in nicely across HB) as the "steak knives". It may take you out of legit flag contention in the next year or two though, until whoever you get at 2 and Crouch are really ready to make a strong contribution. That might be just what you need to do though to build a real premiership quality list.
