Jack Reiwoldt. Has won two colemans and people still don't rate him. When he kicked eleven against he was criticized for it, because it was against easy opposition. Would it have been better if he just gave up?

Then people also say that he only kicks goals in junk-time which was based off one game when he ended up kicking 2 or 3 in the last quarter. Should he have missed them? Would that have made him a better player in people's opinions? That eleven he kicked against the giants were all in the first 3 quarters. One of the best things about jack is that he kicks goals all day and doesn't stop towards the end or start.

People just want to justify their hate for him for reasons unknown...

I don't hate him but I would pick at least half a dozen key forwards before I got to him. He sulks and gives up in games. Sure when he is up and about he is great. But he is bi-polar. The better forwards are more even in their output and cope better when things go against them.

currently he has kicked the third most goals this season but like you I think a lot of people would have half a dozen ahead of him. This is why he is so underrated.

Sure you say he gives up in games yet a lot of people have been bagging him out this year for only kicking goals in junk time, he can honestly do no right.

You say better forwards "cope better when things go against them" however jack has consistently performed with things against him. He isn't blessed with height, speed or strength, while the "better forwards" rely on at least 2 of these. So jack has to rely on his football smarts for goals. He also has the umpires, commentators, media and supporters of 17 other clubs permanently against him. He also plays for a bad team. I can see why he gets pissed off.

In terms of sulking, he has done about the same amount this year as Travis Cloke does each game but it gets blown up a lot more in the media. I don't mind it when he does anyway, because it is usually when he is copping from the umpires and is pretty warranted. In a team that is often criticized for lack of passion and leadership, I can always count that he loves the club and will always give his all for it.

19 of his 37 goals have been against GWS, Brisbane and the dogs.

His sooking effects the team as much as when he is up and about. And when getting beaten he looks for frees instead of making the ball his objective. He gets no worse treatment from the umps than any other forward. Just because he throws his arms around and cracks it at the umps does not mean he hard done by.

There is a reason he was dumped from the leadership group.

Because they wanted a 5 man leadership group rather than 7?

He has been our best on-ground leader this year along with Maric

Don't forget the 3 in junk time against EFC

Jack Riewoldt goal @ 19m 17s 4th Quarter
13.14.92 - 5.12.42
Jack Riewoldt goal @ 23m 31s 4th Quarter
14.14.98 - 6.12.48
Jack Riewoldt goal @ 28m 38s 4th Quarter
15.14.104 - 7.12.54

The epitome of junk time.

Yeah all 3 kicked after the 19 min mark of the last quarter with his team down by 56 points. 3 useless goals. 2 of the 3 he kicked against us was also after the 19 min mark of the last quarter with his team down by 33 points.

In no particular order

Tendai Mzungu
Jack Steven
Eric McKenzie
Todd Goldstein
Daniel Merrett
Zach Tuohy
Mark Blicavs
Rory Sloan
Alipate Carlile
Craig Bird
Sloane and Mackenzie get plenty of recognition, which they deserve. Goldstein's overrated in my opinion - spoken of as one of the elite ruckmen but I don't think he offers enough as a contested player, up forward, or around the ground to be considered as such.

Sam Mitchell.

2 X All- Australian when he should have half a dozen of them by now. Is overlooked because he is not as explosive as plenty of others but is a genius of a footballer.
Yeah he's one player that no one ever talks about.

Turn it up, he's well recognised by the AFL in general. AA doesn't mean much anyway.

Do lol though when Hawks talk him up after knifing him in the back when he was captain.

The thread asks about "underrated" players, not players who are "talked about."

In the context of rating the elite midfielders, Mitchell rarely enters the debate. Usually we hear about Ablett and Judd, then it's guys like Watson, Fyfe, Dangerfield and Selwood. Mitchell rarely even enters into the reckoning of most supporters. The fact is that his career has been as good or better than every midfielder of the past 15 years, bar Ablett and possibly Judd. He is still an elite talent at 31 and is possibly the most underrated midfielder of his generation. Scott Thompson is another one. As are James Kelly, Matthew Boyd and Nathan Jones. Elite players, overlooked by people who believe in hype over substance.

Paddy Ryder, James Kelly, Nathan Jones, Joel Patful (bloke is a dual B&F winner - can obviously play).
Ryder?? This is the under rated - not over rated. You can't slip his name in after he just played his 1st good game for the year. Maybe he will pick up his 1st coaches vote for 2014.

Rance is a bit underrated on these boards IMO, people don't rate him due to his occasional brain fades (which are getting fewer and fewer every season) but he's a great KPD and matches up very well with some who would be considered 'elite' KPDs.

Paddy Ryder would be in our top 5 at the B&F champ.

You need to watch more Essendon games champ ;)

He would be behind - Heppell, Goddard, Hooker, Watson, Hibberd, Zaharakis - he may get Watson but there would be little between him and Stanton. He is no lock for top 5.

You need to watch more football to get a better understanding of the game. His 1st coaches votes came on the weekend. Not sure Thompson is throwing a lot of B&F votes his way.
