That's just great being smart and all that but why did you care to omit the most important part?...........exactly what wine should we be pouring?

I suggest a particularly good agro whine ….

Let the kid get onto the park and get accustomed to AFL football before judgments are made about his fitness levels

Exactly right, the kid can play footy, he's an inside terrier with good breakaway burst speed can kick on both sides and well and ahs good footy IQ. He'l do us proud.

Why are people discussing ‘we rated him at 6 dribble’. That’s just marketing spiel to get fans excited. Who knows what the real number was and who cares. A blue now and will be an absolute jet. SOS knows how to find talent, we should just be excited to see what the kid can produce.
Regarding fitness, I think Richmond were just trying to play a little hard to get ‘where the destination club’. Other recruiters might be sucking up to you, however, we are a successful group. ‘You need to improve x y z to make it with us’... that would make most people more keen to get there and make it, all IMO, might be completely wrong

There are two separate categories for comparison:

1. VO2max score vs. age group (18-25 years) [which is used to compare against the general public within his age group]

2. VO2max score vs age group and somatotype (body type) [which is what would be used to compare against fellow mesomorphs within his age group and the best comparison used for testing against other draftees]

He tested above average for both criteria back in April.
This.

This is the shiznit.

This is what i come here for. Info we won't find elsewhere.

Thank you.

I hope I'm not talking of turn and this may be too much information for lots of readers on here, however my day to day profession involves the analysis, extrapolation and subsequent management of performance data for young athletes (with a particular focus on those that have a genetic ACE I/D polymorphism and the resulting influence on their athletic performance under optimal training environments). I’m currently doing this work for a PAC 12 College in the US looking at the heritability (be that aerobic, body morphology, muscular power/strength) within athletes – notably basketballers and American football players.

I've had a quick scan at Liam's VO2max scores (provided to me by Tom Morris) that he completed in April at the VIS and I don't think his endurance is as bleak as people are making it out to be. He still tested in the above average range for his age group and his somatotype. Looking at his body type and running gait I don't beleive he will ever be within the top range for his age group (>60) but Im sure under Russells system he can build up and run out whole games.

Can he kick a football?

SOS rates him high don't worry about that.

Does it?

He's a Carlton player now.

(I was going to say he's ours now, but that might have been a little stalkerish)

The rest is just noise.

I have no issue with the recruitment, I was just pointing out our grading him as 6 best player may be to meet our needs not necessarily who we rated as the best players

When he started dropping down the draft order we took an opportunity.
Although we obviously thought that might happen considering we’d talked to gws and Adelaide about that deal days before the draft.

Adelaide or gws wouldnt have known which player we wanted. Would be crazy to tell teams who we rated higher

Fair enough if we r talking pick 1. but I have at least 13 other club list managers who would make the same call.

Im a big fan of SOS and one-eyed as they come but Stocker at 6 wouldve been laughed at.
Clayton Oliver was rated as possible first rounder at seasons end. Then kept going up was rated at 10 right upto the draft and when Melbourne were rumoured that they were going to pick him with one of their early pick, people thought they were nuts. I still recall hoping he'd be available at our Pick 12.

People were worried about his fitness. He was fat as a junior.

He also did not play the nationals

He also won the Morris Medal.

After I watched his videos and all other potential draftees, I had rated him as my number 2 behind Weiters.

My judgement was purely based on highlight videos. Seeing Oliver boss it has come as no surprise.

Stocker's video shows he has the traits. His videos are more impressive than most. I am so confident we will look back at this trade/draft as one of our best

We're discussing how good a prospect he is and by extension, how good the trade really was. Both points relevant to Stocker.

If it doesn't interest you, scroll down.

When l watch the highlights of smith and stocker l see a better contested ball player in stocker.

I thought the top 6 were Walsh, lukoscius, Rankine, Blakey and the kings. After that l think Stocker is a chance to be next.

But take it with a grain of salt as lve watched a few YouTube clips and some u18 champs games.

My best highlight vids are:
Rankin
M.King
Lukotius
Walsh
Caldwell
Stocker

Love it. He really has a dynamism to him unique to our midfield. Playing him dow and cripps together in the guts feels like a good chemistry experiment waiting to happen.

Don't make noise when you're stalking, kman....easier to get caught

I think this is the point.

We have had some fantastic athletes on our list over the years, but many of them couldn't footy.

Stocker may not have Walsh's athletic ability (not too many draftees do), but if he knows how to find the footy on a consistent basis (we've had plenty who couldn't) & use it well (again we have had plenty who couldn't), then he is already well on the way to being a very good AFL player.

I have heard he is better than an ex No2..
