Absolute joke this guy has not been medically retired. He will never play again and that panel going to cost a fit player their career. Concussion panel is probably all Hawthorn supporters making sure they **** us over.

Kinda agree.

Can’t say I have ever heard of a player with concussion issues ever getting over them and having a decent career.

His own personal health is what’s important.

Angus brayshaw and Patty McCartin were able to come back for a fair period of decent footy till they eventually succumbed to it again. So in hindsight the teams have to ask if it was worth it for the long lasting impact on them post footy

He has not been cleared to play yet. He has been cleared to resume training and see if he has any more issues.
Problem is the review is not before final list lodgement so we would need special consideration for the draft if he is medically retired.
Otherwise if he is retired it will be an SSP spot.

I will say I think Cox can play. He has ability. Being a bit of a string bean he has to have a bit of a competitive streak to have confidence. If he had the same level of competitor in him that that Reid has then he would be a really decent player, probably inured as his body would most likely fail as well.

I dare say it’s only a matter of time before he’s medically retired. He might get the okay to continue for now, but it’s inevitable that he’ll have another concussion issue sooner or later.
It's a pretty sad way to go but I agree. I'm not sure how much evidence they actually need to tick their checklist off but he doesn't appear durable enough to me.
Is there red tape?
I feel like we're twiddling our thumbs and costing ourselves time and opportunity in the process.

On the other side of this, you'd hope the club has some process / resources in place to support Coxy's wellbeing in the event that he is medically retired.

Yeah, even if it's in a couple of years time with his history it'll probably only take one more to finish him off

He reminds of the story of the unnamed ex player in a news article a decade or so ago said they targeted an opposition player who was initially difficult to knock out. Eventually years later the slightest thing concussed him. Sadly the same protective mechanism in Nik's brain appears disrupted and maybe to a greater extent with how rapidly this has occurred. As Package says hopefully we are working hard behind the scenes with his management and the AFL to put on the inactive list for 2026 to free a spot.

Out of curiosity
Why wouldnt the club delist him and go to the draft and if he is medically cleared re draft him as a SSP or something like that. Personally i think he should retire and get paid out by the club as health is most important and football becomes a distant way back

Stay on the list to access medical insurance I imagine. Although they could rookie him if it came to it…

Movement at the station.

Don’t have the article but not only will he be on the list next year, he’s going to start pre season as normal next month

Says he still enjoys the games which is a good sign

Bit of a nothing article

Hardly.

The club may have been keeping it under wraps but we had no idea whether he was going to retire or have to retire or when we would have clarity on that.

Now we know it’s best case scenario and it’s best case scenario before the draft so we can forecast accordingly, and he’s not stuck in purgatory. Even if you do feel like this is a bit of a last chance saloon concussion wise.
