Player Watch #15: Dylan Stephens

Usually it happens in reverse but Dylan was one of those rare times we brought in an opposition player I really rated.

Bell, Abraham, Higgins and Hall were others in that category.

Three of out of four ain't bad

In the most positive way he reminds me of Dal Santo. Lock him in for the next decade.
Still in awe at that absolute dart of a goal he kicked in 2014 against Geelong in the SF. Tough angle, not much time to assess, and he just drills it.

I hope Stephens can be the faster version of that.

There’s 2 wings so we can probably fit them both in.
Indeed, you can certainly see Scott as a defensive winger getting back there and being used on the 1-2 by the likes of Sheezel, Colby, Fisher.

Scott was also one of the few players last year that was noticeably running from the behind the ball carrier for the handball receive.

As long as I don't have to see the LMAC, kick the cover off it down the line Hopeball or Deathbyathousandcutsball, I will be happy.

Simpkin Is more value hf/mid than wing.
For how long? Phillips, Powell, Lazarro are all coming (he’s a better player than those guys at present). George & Duursma are coming in a HF role. I’d just about take all of the above in my team ahead of Scott. Moving Simpkin on a wing could really use his running power to accommodate playing those other guys across HF / mid.

Scott will get a gig for a long long time, even when the shiny toys develop

You don't throw away that running ability

Isn’t George playing HBF?

Probably the next 5-6 years.

I'm looking at the line up on the basis of what's presented at training and game day. Not my personal fantasy team.

You've got to understand his role. He's not playing as a pure HF. He's playing as basically an extra mid. The team is structured that way.

Scott's not going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

Maybe but that depth of midfielders could provide an opportunity for someone else to roll out there. Simpkin for one in the long term.
Wing, especially defensive wing, is not just somewhere you can shove a surplus mid imo. Very specialised role and not where Jy is best suited. Stephens, Scott, Tucker, Shiels and I’m probably forgetting someone for the wing rotations.

You didn't watch North Melbourne play last year, did you

Out of touch call, fools gold call.

Mate you've turned up out of nowhere to slag off the guy who has been one of our hardest workers, a big improver and a shining light in a poor team and who finished third in our B&F last year?
Out of nowhere? Check the post history mate. And I think I’m entitled to an opinion without being called an idiot. Sorry that you are the authority because you live on here.
