the parallels between Langford and Perkins are pretty good; the difference is langford had Hird as a coach to get the best out of him and make him the player he is today, imagine if perkins was coached by Hird… scary how good he could be

Banned from the league for doping and or playing for another club due to gross administrative failures.

interesting read, the stats don’t lie, but they don’t pass the pub test by my eye. tells half the story, especially for archie.

Interesting stats, he just needs to apply more pressure it seems.
Always feel so confused with Archie, is he just improving at a very slow rate each year? When will he make the big leap? Will he ever be better than a B grade player?

It is but it is also on the fact the next guys are doing the same thing in the VFL.
I don't understand why we don't have the best VFL system and coaches. From the outside looking in it appears a no brainer that having a great VFL program with the best coaches etc would instill younger players with the correct training and habits so that they can eventually come into the senior side and do exactly what the coach wants them to do.

I know you've said that our football programs are a lot better under Scott, but from what I've read on here it appears the VFL side of things is still not as good as it should be. How is the team defence meant to improve if it's not being instilled into those coming up through the VFL?

Another side of this is that they should be able to send fringe players (like Jones for example) back to the seconds so they can work on team defence and other aspects of their game and improve them, and become better players. But this doesn't seem to be the case.

The last CEO was told to consolidate the finances after the Saga so the VFL was let go a bit and then Covid wiped it out. It has only been the last two seasons that they have started to make a real effort to turn it around.
They put Tapping in as coach for this year but sadly he passed away.
I think they have played a better brand in the VFL this year and the back end of last season but you can not just rebuild it in one season and a bit. You have to build continuity in the VFL list as well and we basically had to clean the VFL slate 2 years ago.
Losing Tapping was a big loss.

Interesting for sure. Maybe the high expectations put on him lead to the disappointment that he is not the player we hoped for, but the stats indicate he is an okay forward. The high forward spot is often the hardest to play as there is a lot of work rate up and back. Personally I have always said he was a half forward but in saying that he is looking like more a 30 goal half forward than the 40 goal one I was hoping for.
Explains why Scott and co want him in the side.

i remember listening to (someone, i don't remember who) talk about how hard it is to play high half forward, which i think is accurate. i think he's got a lot of work to do, but if he's able to pop up and kick 1-2 goals a game, that's solid.

Langford has a fair bit more footy IQ compared to Perkins.
I think the point is that Perkins was tried as a midfielder and it looks like his best position is as a forward. He is also very good looking and would benefit from having Hird as a coach .

Imagine Perkins with Hird’s hair

It’s an overwhelming thought that leads to an undeniably tingly feeling

Just imagine it

my wife was pretty happy with Perkins when he was rocking the long hair.

Went to shit went he shaved it she reckons.

His football skills also went down.........

That was the position I played most. I found it the easiest out of all positions I played.

I found it great to push up help out, and then find space coming back. Where as in defence or midfield, you'd always be in congestion.

I think its the only position Perkins would be decent at, with his limited footy iq.

Me too, was my natural spot

But it’s one that is massively different at AFL level vs local level

No easy space to find, really have to earn everything

I think that's relative to every position being more difficult at AFL level.

I just don't see how half forward is one of the most difficult positions to play.
