1995 all over again!?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

This whole Freo, St Kilda, Harvey, Lyon saga tonight reminds me so much of us at the end of 1995.

Swooper wanted an extension... RFC played hardball... RFC was ready to renegotiate, swoop walks and announces he's off to Brisbane... we end up with Walls as coach in return.

All that needs to happen now is for Harvey to end up at the saints... :)

Who says a contract in coaching circles means anything! Sheesh

Thanking our lucky stars that we have a solid team and a solid foundation at that club now... knock on wood we don't have to deal with this sort of shit anymore!

Lack of Scotty "****ing" Turner and Broderick lead me to believe it is in fact not 1995.

LOL,you are not suggesting that broderick agun midfielder with great vision by hand and one of the main reasons why we had such a good year in 1995 was average are you.turner who to be fair was ok ish,but broderick was a gun at fitzroy and hes latter years at richmond.go back and watch some replays.and even if you still dont like him believe me there are 20 other blokes you could of written about first.during a tough period he was one of our better players.

On the contrary, I think tucker was suggesting that the lack of those two Tiger champs is the main indicator that this is in fact, anything but 1995 ;)

if that is the case then i take it back.you are a richmond supporter for long enough you not only grow tiered of suppporters taking pot shots but some of the players they have a go at blow my mind.sorry tuk if i took it the wrong way.;)

and then 10 years later make lyon a life member of the saints and it would be bang on freaky:o

Dont get excited over a team going through what we went through 15 years ago yet.

St Kilda are not getting Robert Walls as a replacement. That was actually half the catastrophe in it all.

Didnt know Ross Lyon played in multiple flags at the saints

Is he that old ???

Maybe Ross is just fed up with a shyte , back-bighting culture that he fought to overcome during his whole tenure but that ultimately has resurfaced again ???

Yeah ... the parallels are amazing

ohh ... and northeys premierships ???

dont stray from using selected facts and ignoring others pal ;)

Of course its the dollars and security and the ability to do you job unimpeded . when you know you are about to be shunted out the door anyway ;) ... oh ... and unlike Northey , Lyon did not play with the club and it was purely a business arrangemant ;) .

i would love every moron who posesses 10% of the facts of a situation and sits up there in their ivory towers casting judgement to be cast into role of a Ross Lyon and see how their supposed "Moral fibre" stands up ;)

Oh ... and Ross had a get out clause in his contract ;)

whats northeys premierships got to do with anything, I was responding to your point that Lyon was escaping from the "infighting......"...how about you lose this Mandela like pedastal you put on the persecuted lyon & Northey and judge them for their actions alone. yep, they were seduced by a better deal, make of it what you will, but apre us the persecution hogwash...perhaps the sympathy would be better directed harveys way

Footy clubs can look like pure evil when they are preaching loyalty and yet cutting people as they do.

That the club is bigger than the individual has a lot of meaning, it has also been abused by footy clubs.

I wouldnt want our club preaching loyalty to players but rather they show that it is in the best interest of themselves to stay at Richmond. I believe it is and players are smart enough to know it.

Northey had earnt the right to be shown by Richmond that his best option was to stay at Richmond but instead they folded their arms and took the GR approach of 'You wouldnt dare leave'. Great move that.

Harvey is the example as to why they should be selfish . Lyons was a smart business decision .

Crying "loyalty" and selfishness in the coaching game with multi million $ contracts on the line is archaic

well that my friend is a very good point...i was once in a similar posi to where mark Harvey finds himself, potted behind my back with someone headhunted into my role where only 12 months earlier I won an award...****en queeenslanders:p...anyway i feel for harvey, it's a bloody ruthless industry and I'll look on with interest how the cards now fall for Lyon...as a postscript, the business i was once involved went broke a few years later

Yep that's how i recall it too. I don't recall Northey pissing off to Bears for bigger $$$, he did think he was worth a bit more on the back of a top 4 finish and Leon Daphne played hard ball. The fall-out was an immature playing group (Campbell, Richo, Knights, Free, Lambert, Gale etc) left shattered and rudderless and we never recovered. Saints are a lot more mature and mentally tougher, still will be very challenging. Their administration has looked very amateurish in all of this. Like Leon Daphne I don't believe they really thought Ross was the future.
