2 of your most hated teams

Have only been posting the past few years but was lurking at the height of Cats and Hawks. Make no mistake, that was lace gloves and high tea compared to the s**t fight of Cats and Richmond. I think you're on the money about the respect - that period 08 to 14 was two really good teams hammering each other, but the modern rivalry extends back to 89 (maybe even that crazy Rd 6 game) and through the 90s. Even though it might be in a lull right now, this is a rivalry that will continue for a long time.

Richmond kind of came from nowhere and I'm sure their fans loved inflicting finals misery on the Cats after 11 straight years of losses, starting with the mother of them all in 2007. But there was never felt anything deeper than one side or the other being "lolololol we beat you again!!!!!!111"... and it's devolved from there, at least here on Big Footy.

Don't think there has been a lull to be honest. Maybe in terms of the quality of the games/players but not so much in term of the result. 2-3 Geelong's way in the last 5 games. Hasn't been too many blowouts outside of the odd occasion here and there.

Doesn't seem to be that much bad blood between the clubs. I certainly don't recall Dermie posing with a Geelong jumper lit in flames.

Not really, it was heated for a while there but there is respect from both sides because of all the great games of footy over time.

Hatchet was buried a long time ago between Dermie and Yeates. Think they are pretty good mates now.

Lethal on Bruns if I recall hasn't really been addressed but I could be wrong.

Having spoken to Neville about the incident in recent times, he never wanted it to blow out to what it did but the media took hold and it went on from there. Many people have insinuated the Geelong football club complained after the game but it was never the case.
Neville's wife was very angry and she wanted him to take it further but he'd didn't.

People tend to forget that Leigh Matthews suffered a concussion and broken nose after he hit Bruns. That was also looked at by the Victorian police.

You honestly wouldn't find a nicer bloke to talk to than Neville. He may have tried reaching out to Leigh in the past but am not sure Leigh was accepting. It impacted Leigh's final season of football as he struggled for a while there off the field.

In fact, ive nearly been banned on the EFC board for saying i like carlton, hawthorn and collingwood.

Can i list essendon as one of those teams?

Hating teams in itself is a bit silly. For me it’s about the fans. I find it extremely hard to respect the average Hawthorn fan when it comes to footy. The epitome of a bandwagon supporter base.
They are to me the softest bunch of fans who could ever exist. All born in and around the 80s, you’ll probably find they are also Manchester United fans, maybe man city now?

They aren’t as deeply passionate as most other club supporters, a soft supporter base who took the easy way to finding success.
The types who would never stick around for decades of pain to get the joy of finally winning a flag.
If Hawthorn had the history of a StKilda or a Bulldogs they would never have survived, but if they did would easily be the least supported Victorian club today.

For historical and current reasons the two teams that I get most laughs out of are Carlton and North.

The boy's club deals with Gilly that pillaged Tiger members.

Essendon- Just a wasteland of a club and organisation. Would have folded without Kevin Sheedy and rich delusional supporters giving them cash.

St Kilda- Biggest club of misfits and losers in the league. I could watch them get their heart broken over and over again in Grand Finals.

Port is low hanging fruit. Not worth the time.

Essendon tried to cheat, didn't succeed. They also got a lot of good draft picks from players who left and from dropping down the ladder.
Unfortunately not many of those players are that good. I don't hate them as such, more pity the players who where robbed of playing at all In 2016 and what might have been a premiership between 2013 to 2018.
The attitude of David Evans to allow James Hird to go rogue I strongly dislike .

Up until this year, i hadn't given Port Adelaide even a second of thought as a club, or as an overarching entity.

The carry on and smugness from a club that provide zero value to the AFL as a whole, is quite entertaining to see, as well as the inevitable fact that they are simply not any good, has catapulted them to the number one position in my mind.

Also, Essendon.
