Bryan has been the number 1 ruck so far this pre season. How far it goes who knows but Draper has spent a lot of time forward with Nick starting in the ruck.

Correct, but I doubt he's number 1 in the real stuff. I think Scott will give him give every chance as Drapers offsider at the start of the season. But don't discount him being dropped for Goldstein at some point.

dropped vs. rested. we know that bryan's struggled to finish games. unless his performances are particularly shocking (from my eye i can't think of many, if any performances from nick bryan being too bad) it won't be used beyond a 1 game break where draper can predominantly solo ruck.

I really hope Draper can build the tank to ruck solo. Not a knock on Bryan but im still skeptical that a 2 ruck set up can work in current game and if I had to choose between the two I would choose draper based on the physicality. I think guys like Bryan (English/Grundy) are becoming less influential as the ruck battle has become more about strength in the contest with guys like Xerri/Briggs becoming more prominent.
Draper is the only ruck we have on the list that I think can play that kind of role, but i dont think the ideal ruck is on our list tbh.

He's had 9 years. Safe to say he can't

Interesting. I personally don't see Bryan taking the number 1 from Draper.

Draper monsters opposition ruckman.
I think he's looking super fit, and in for a big year.
Wouldn't be surprised seeing him in the calculations for AA ruckman come seasons end.
Draper had never monstered the best ruckmen in the comp. Maybe winning a few clearances at centre bounce, but winning the ruck contest is a whole lot more than that

He’s going to ruck a lot with Draper playing large chunks forward. Then depending on how the game goes there’s a chance Bryan will be subbed off if they’re looking for more run. It will depend how the games pan out week to week

That depends on form I guess. There could also be a circumstance where they could go for a makeshift second ruck with someone like Jones and play an extra forward like Edwards.

I think Bryan will be given a long leash, at least initially - which he's probably earned. There's been times over the past 12-24 months where he's inarguably been in better form than Flip/Goldy, but has had to take a back seat.

If Goldy's in the AFL team over Bryan this year (due to form), something has gone very wrong.

Draper \ Bryan setup seems to be working ok, think it will only get better. I believe 2 rucks suits us.
Goldy will play again at some stage as a fill-in which won't be a bad thing.
Would like to see a fit Wright play permanant FF but that throws up the problem of too many talls.

Drapers playing FF. He likes being close to goal as he has to be able to snap the ball to be accurate.

Wright plays more as a CHF. He likes being in space, working up the wings and getting the ball open on the arc as he has a laser of a boot and range out to 55.

Wright and Hooker worked in 2021 so there’s something to suggest Wright and Draper could work together. Especially offensively.

However Wright seems devoid of confidence and him and Caddy don’t seem to fit in the same side. Your not dropping Caddy so unfortunately Wright just doesn’t work here

Draper can snap from anywhere inside 40 according to the coach. Outside 40 he might try but the coach might be skeptical.

Need him back. The question of Draper playing forward is answered by the opposition- they basically ignore him and send their best defender to Caddy.

Wright probably gives them more to think about.

Wright in first either Draper or Bryan, take your pick.
The Peter Wright of a few years ago yes. Not the one of today. You say sides ignore Draper. In the Collingwood practice match they sent a medium to play on Wright and he simply knocked Wright off the line of the ball and out ran him to contests. Wright had maybe 3 touches before he went off injured.

Draper at least forces defenders to look out for him steaming through (when we get the good version like last match anyway). No one is too worried about dropping in to the leading lane in front of Wright.

dont think Wright will change that.

Never seen a guy so big get pushed off the ball so easily. Not to mention his tiny hands

Wright will be good as another target, but i suspect Caddy will always be getting the better defender

Is not his tiny hands is how he is positioning his hands to mark the ball
Was taught at a young age thumbs behind the ball so it spills forward if you don't get it first grab and you get another grab at it.
His hands the ball will slip straight through

Wright would have to be tearing up the VFL to even be considered for a call up
I agree with this. But think we also need him to give Caddy a rest here and there: I’m a tad worried about running him into the ground this early in his career

Draper crashes packs and hurts people. Ask Kane Farrell.
