Sorry Pete but with Hooker and yourself in our forward line our forward 50 team defence is like Swiss cheese and IMO opposition teams are too easily exiting this area via run and carry.

I’d rather Bryan in the side if we need 2 rucks or Ambrose in forward line to help not only present a contest but to help with forward line pressure.

Or we bring Stewart back forward and find another KPD?
Nah, if anything we should give Hooker a rest and play Wright as the number one forward. Then bring in Ambrose or Waterman (if fit) for Hooker.

Freo's missing a lot of KPDs so it would be the perfect week to try out what might be our forwardline set-up next year if Hooker retires at the end of the season.

Think he has been fine.

Just wish he would crash the packs harder.

Reckon once we have Bryan ans Draper abit more developed as a pair that Wright will be the odd one out however.

I think you have to keep persisting with Wright. Unless going to play 2 rucks. Got to remember that 2MP didnt get to play much footy last year. He has been decent in patches but struggles to impact the game regularly enough save for Anzac Day. Got to look at the 3 talls as a unit too. They won't all fire on the same day and having Wright and Hooker there helps Jones with his development. I think Laverde is showing why you need to give guys consistent run of games to see what they can produce. We recruited Wright for a particular role and are now only really playing him in that role after a few weeks of having to be number 1 ruck.

There were a couple of times where he took the contested grab on the half back line and managed to make his way back to the forward line to be the target heading inside 50. Fantastic work rate.

He's doing about 95% right (Wright?) atm, just needs to firmly clunk some of those big pack marks. He's getting both hands to it which is a good sign but no doubt it will eventually click for him.

Will give him this year as a year to develop his game. Just 5% more aggressive above head and he takes the game apart. Same story as ANZAC day.

It's more annoying than not at this stage. Needs to drink some Newcastle Brown ales pre game and during half time.

Have liked what he has given us so far. Not a star but is doing his bit most weeks. If only he could hang onto 3 or 4 mores of the grabs he gets his hands to.
I still think he is just a bloke who is not physically strong so his contested game suffers. He is okay when he can get around the ground a bit.

He would find it easier to hold onto some of these marks if he took front position more often, or didn't let his defender take it from him as the ball is coming in. Not sure he's a great reader of the play from deep, so he sometimes starts further back in the contest or on the back foot.

Or it is something ingrained in how he plays as he has always been the tall kid with the reach.

It's handy having a key forward who is a genuine second ruck. Hoping he can get a 25-30 goal year and maintain his 12-ish hitout average for the year.

Not being Daniher fixated but I reckon given his kicking ability we should look to use him round the ground more in a similar fashion to Brisbane have been with Daniher.

Still not all the way there with him though. Seems like he could come at the ball a bit harder instead of waiting for it to come to him while relying on his reach.

He’s getting back across half back and cutting off really well when he goes onto the ball.
