Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

Really pleased to see him playing well. Great game for his 100th. If he can stay on the park he will be the marking weapon that Franklin isn't and give Bud some relief from the double teaming.

Stickiest hands I've seen in a long while.

Sticky Hands Sam. I like it.

Sounds like a Wild West gunslinger, or a Chicago gangster.
And with Plugger taking Sam under his wing, Sam needs to pay a return on the investment by taking Sinclair under his wing and showing him how to stick a f***ing mark.

He holds the ball like a 5 year old having a kick in the park with dad.

The majority of his huge hands seem to be holding the top or side of the ball instead of covering the lower part to guide it on to the boot.

He also seems to drop it rather than guide it on to the boot.

If only we could bring plugger back to the club to teach some of these guys.

Set shot issues aside though, he's got a truck load of talent for a 19 year old. Very excited about his future.
Posted Jul 11 2011.

Can you tell me the winners for the season please?

This weeks game also finally pushes him above 1 goal a game average :thumbsu:

100 games
103 goals

It really feels like Sam is ready to really step up to be one of the leagues best key forwards, or at least to be a consistently dangerous one.

Just needed a good fitness base and direct objective instead of being third tall between Buddy and Tippett.

The lack of faith in the guy was always disappointing.

and his kicking has improved a lot as well. He had 7 shots on goal on Friday and he kicked 6 of them. I actually feel moderately confident when Sam is lining up for goal now rather than closing my eyes and hoping.

If Reid and Buddy can both be in the top 10 for total goals in 2017 that will be a dangerous weapon.

Just noticed your thread on the polls board. [emoji1]

Noticed that the only shot he missed was when he laid back on the kick. When he kept his head over it, it went straight. Might be down to Plugger's influence as Plugger's technique always had him keeping his head forward over the ball when kicking.
