Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

If he keeps this up he'll be gold. A dangerous goal kicker who can also play ruck and defence. Clunking big marks with one grab. I don't know what he's got on his hands but it's sticky stuff.
This weeks game also finally pushes him above 1 goal a game average :thumbsu:

100 games
103 goals

I suspect his output per game would have been much higher if he'd played as a forward every game. Even this last weekend he should have had more than six.

Forget the ruck imo
I hated seeing him there. He hasn't got the body to take that hammering and he's too bloody good when forward, BUT, the fact that he can cover more positions gives us flexibility we sometimes sorely need in an emergency.

if reid can kick 3+ again this week, look out he would officialy arrived
I think if we look at his form at the tail end of 2015 he was already starting to show some consistency. He seems to stand up well when the chips are down. Wish we'd played him in the Granny.

What % has been spent making space

In all seriousness I actually do think he could play that role to make more room for Buddy.

In the GWS game his second and third efforts defensively up the ground were excellent. Could care less how he goes if he can play that LRT role and keep Bud nearer the goals (which for him means anywhere within 80m of the goalsquare).
