Old ''good story'' Mark Blicavs.

Basically tagged along with Cam Guthrie to training one night and made the grade. That's the short hand version anyway.

I believe *checks notes* he once held ambitions of being an Olympic-level Steeplechaser(!).

Big tank, tall, very raw; some type of mutant B-list rookie experiment like Stephen Wells' very own Frankenstein's Monster.

Non-traditional pathway. An anomaly.
When had he last played competitive Aussie Rules Footy? Had he mastered the skills of the game? Was this some kind of tax dodge? It was certainly creative list management.

Spent his first year on the list with our VFL team, still a mystery; reports failing to reach a consensus ... he was miles off/he actually wasn't far off at all.

We know the rest.

He's played 200 games in just 9 seasons; never played less than 20 games in a season.

Durable, Versatile.

Definitely a good club man and a big part of the Chris Scott era.

Great Running Patterns Mark Blicavs. :thumbsu:

Had his debut the year he turned 22 just like Harry Taylor did. I hope but also reckon Blitz can hit 300 and not fall a season short like HT!

There is no player that reflects chris Scott more than mark Blicavs.

kinda agree with this actually, Blicavs is an expression of Scott's coaching philosophies, tasked with performing very specific defensive roles, using elite endurance to fill space and enact the game plan.
Skills are blunt but a secondary consideration to his capacity for delivering on key objectives.

I have always been a fan of Mark Blicavs. He's proved a lot of people wrong on this board. Congrats on 200.

Think I'm right in saying he's the first player to make it to 200 games at Geelong who played all 200 of those games under Scott

Nearly, but he's great mate beat him to that mark by a couple of weeks - Cam Guthrie drafted in 2010, debuted in 2011 and played his 200th last weekend/Friday night vs GWS

Incredible achievement from a player who literally came from 'the other side of the track/s'.

Has been amazingly wholehearted in every game he's played in the hoops. Played every role asked of him to the best of his ability. And to be a two-time Carji winner is a fitting testament to how valuable he has been at the club across the journey so far.

Does genuinely give you chills when he wins the ball within 20 metres of our goals. But the benefits of having him make and win so many contests around the ground well and truly outweigh those infuriating moments where his game read is appallingly naive.

An admired talent across the comp (AA squad member for 2018,2019, and 2020), who reached us courtesy of a good mate and the benefits of the rookie list. It is a very cool story, and one that will hopefully get an even better chapter in him also becoming a premiership player at some stage.

Still tracking to be the best player to only wear #46 in the history of the game as well.

Love your work, Blitz.

Not even the first ex Sunbury Lions junior footballer to get there

Great story about perseverance and application. To win two Carji Greeves is quite astonishing.

Love the flexibility he brings to the team and despite being switched all over the ground to plug holes, is still ranked our best defender for 2021 by the AFL player rankings.

Congrats to Blitz on game 200.

If there's one guy who could have been excused for having a gripe with the AFL for its rule changes, it would be Mark "third man up" Blicavs. Virtually had to reinvent himself 3 or 4 times during his career. I imagine him being a coach's dream because of how dedicated he is to every task he's set, and at the same time a coach's headache only because there can only be one of him out there at any one time. Has barely missed a match in the past 8 or 9 years which for someone who shoulders a lot of the ruck is virtually unheard of. Congrats on 200!

Congrats to Blitz on game 200.

Blitz is a bloody handy addition down back, but there's no way he's a better defender than Stewy (statistic be damned!).

He's in the team for his flexibility, and that's what makes him so valuable. He doesn't excel in any one position, but he's good enough for defence, ruck, and occasionally wing. There aren't many players like him and it's obvious why the MC love him.

Now, if he could just improve his disposal in the D50...

At 30 years of age, his kicking isn't going to get any better. He just needs to play within his means and offload the ball to those with the kicking skills.
