Microscope time again, lets see if the Demons are all they should be.

Steven Armstrong - Impressive youngster with an old head on his shoulders
Daniel Bell - New kid, yet to see him play
Clint Bizzell - Gamble paid off big time, he now has to prove he can do it year after year
Daniel Breese - “Old” (been on list for a year already) new kid, yet to see him play
Troy Broadbridge - Knee reco’s can wreck a season, needs to put on some more muscle
Nathan Brown - Came on strong in 2002, no trouble getting or delivering ball
Cameron Bruce - His season mirrored club’s, a bit inconsistent, his best is damn good
Craig Ellis - The reco recovery will probably stall him, serviceable player for the Dees
Ryan Ferguson - New kid, yet to see him play
Simon Godfrey - An okay end to the season saved his spot, adds some mongrel
Brad Green - Classy player who can lose touch with the game, needs consistency
Chris Heffernan - I reckon this guy is pretty good, improved fitness & concentration will help
Cameron Hunter - New kid, yet to see him play, has great pedigree
Mark Jamar - Good pick up by Dees, a willing workhorse, has some nice skill
Travis Johnstone - Has finally had a good season, about time, can he back it up?
Darren Jolly - Spends a lot of time warming the bench, he’s okay, but couldn’t carry the rucks
Chris Lamb - A negative type, he can look okay, but gets beaten too many times
Andrew Leoncelli - Has some great aggro, good “in ya face” midfielder
James McDonald - Good team player, he needs to improve to keep place in team
Brad Miller - Will be 20 soon, & done nothing so far, the little I’ve seen has been lousy
Luke Molan - Old new kid, yet to see him play
Gary Moorcroft - An interesting player, very hot & cold, I think he’ll add a bit to the Dees
David Neitz - I said he’d bounce back strong, very good player, strong as an ox
Alistair Nicholson - Dees missed him, I thought he was just a big lug, but he can play okay
Guy Rigoni - I have my doubts, backs that bad have ruined other careers, I do wish him well
Jared Rivers - New kid, yet to see him play
Russell Robertson - A crazy player, he doesn’t know what he’ll do next, tons of talent
Aaron Rogers - Old new kid, yet to see him play
Nick Smith - New kid, yet to see him play
Scott Thompson - This kid is a good one, gotta come back from a knee
Peter Vardy - Played well in 2002 for a nutcase, his challenge is to back it up each season
Peter Walsh - Every team needs a hard nose hard head guy like Walsh, fine team man
Daniel Ward - A few injuries have been in his way, like Walsh, he’s a good tough bloke
Paul Wheatley - Growing in confidence & stature, hammy has been an issue though
Matthew Whelan - A pretty good running defender, consistent, but not a star
Jeff White - Is now fulfilling potential, excellent athletic ruckman, can be monstered though
Luke Williams - Seen nothing to change my mind, he’s a dud
Adem Yze - Is now a star, ball magnet with flair & grunt

It’s a nice even list, there is still a big man problem in defence, injury is a big part of that, lack of experience in the replacements is another part.

I can’t see the Demons stepping up as a major player for the flag this season, but they will have some good wins.

A definite for the lower part of the 8, I’ll make my final predictions when all clubs have been completed.

Disagree with...

Darren Jolly - he can handle the ruck alright! He can handle anything! :D

Lamb - You under rate him quite a bit. Yeah, he got beaten once or twice, but he also beat some very good full forwards... I'm guessing you missed em, eh?

Miller - He's been on our list one year, and you are already getting stuck into him?? Sheesh.

Nicholson - better than okay. Best full back in the league until he was injured.

Overall, not a bad assesment from a non Melbourne supporter.

Might as well copy my reply from ***********

Steven Armstrong - Impressive youngster with an old head on his shoulders - Yep
Daniel Bell - New kid, yet to see him play
Clint Bizzell - Gamble paid off big time, he now has to prove he can do it year after year - Yep
Daniel Breese - Old; (been on list for a year already) new kid, yet to see him play - Has been on the list for a couple of years now, needs to step up.
Troy Broadbridge - Knee recos can wreck a season, needs to put on some more muscle - Not really a KPP, but he's being moulded there anyway, interesting to see what happens to him
Nathan Brown - Came on strong in 2002, no trouble getting or delivering ball - Yep
Cameron Bruce - His season mirrored clubs, a bit inconsistent, his best is damn good Bit inconsistent? Not sure where you get that from, he played sometimes as a tagger, sometime KPP, sometimes midfielder. Was only beaten when playing on Richo and Riewoldt (2 players he shouldn'thave been on)
Craig Ellis - The reco recovery will probably stall him, serviceable player for the Dees - Yep
Ryan Ferguson - New kid, yet to see him play
Simon Godfrey - An okay end to the season saved his spot, adds some mongrel - Needs to continue that end of season form to stay on the list.
Brad Green - Classy player who can lose touch with the game, needs consistency - Yep
Chris Heffernan - I reckon this guy is pretty good, improved fitness & concentration will help - Yep
Cameron Hunter - New kid, yet to see him play, has great pedigree
Mark Jamar - Good pick up by Dees, a willing workhorse, has some nice skill - Yep
Travis Johnstone - Has finally had a good season, about time, can he back it up? - Very importanthe does back it up
Darren Jolly - Spends a lot of time warming the bench, he's okay, but couldn't carry the rucks - I disagree, I think this kid will be a good player, possibly as a forward/pinch-hitting ruckman.
Chris Lamb - A negative type, he can look okay, but gets beaten too many times - Wasn't beaten too often this year while playing on the number 1 forward, will be better at CHB after Nicho is back.
Andrew Leoncelli - Has some great aggro, good in ya face midfielder - Yep
James McDonald - Good team player, he needs to improve to keep place in team - Not sure why the club re-signed him, Godfrey is the prefered tagger now.
Brad Miller - Will be 20 soon, & done nothing so far, the little I've seen has been lousy - Has only been on the list for a year, give the kid a chance!
Luke Molan - Old new kid, yet to see him play - Yep
Gary Moorcroft - An interesting player, very hot & cold, I think he'll add a bit to the Dees - Yep
David Neitz - I said he'd bounce back strong, very good player, strong as an ox - Yep
Alistair Nicholson - Dees missed him, I thought he was just a big lug, but he can play okay - Was the form defender before the knee
Guy Rigoni - I have my doubts, backs that bad have ruined other careers, I do wish him well - Will add a hell of a lot if he stays fit
Jared Rivers - New kid, yet to see him play - Yep
Russell Robertson - A crazy player, he doesn't know what he'll do next, tons of talent - Yep, needs to add some consistancy
Aaron Rogers - Old new kid, yet to see him play - Will play this year, maybe CHF, is killing them in the pre-season
Nick Smith - New kid, yet to see him play - Yep
Scott Thompson - This kid is a good one, gotta come back from a knee - Huge potential, needs to stay fit.
Peter Vardy - Played well in 2002 for a nutcase, his challenge is to back it up each season - Yep
Peter Walsh - Every team needs a hard nose hard head guy like Walsh, fine team man - Yep
Daniel Ward - A few injuries have been in his way, like Walsh, he's a good tough bloke - Yep
Paul Wheatley - Growing in confidence & stature, hammy has been an issue though - Look for him to spend more time on the wing, which is his natural position
Matthew Whelan - A pretty good running defender, consistent, but not a star - Will be moving to the midfield this year, and has spent all pre-season with the midfield group. Walsh will remain in defence instead of spending time in the midfield to cover for Wheels
Jeff White - Is now fulfilling potential, excellent athletic ruckman, can be monstered though - Jolly is his perfect mask as he is a 'bang and crash' ruckman
Luke Williams - Seen nothing to change my mind, he's a dud - Has some talent, but not much. Needs a HUGE year to stay on the list
Adem Yze - Is now a star, ball magnet with flair & grunt Yep

Fair effort.

Bruce’s form was consistently good last year the only thing inconsistent about his game was the position he played in. He played just about every position except for the ruck.

Jolly wasn’t very effective in his short stints in the ruck in the first half of the season, however in the second half he was taking the opposition back-up ruckmen to the cleaners. He has a big future and is getting better by the game.

Miller was only drafted last year as a raw player with a late draft pick. During last year’s preseason he wasn’t expected to get a game but he still managed to break into the side. This season he looks set to start at FB. He is tough and has great leadership qualities. He has a big future ahead of him in the red and blue.

Chris Lamb is very accountable but I wouldn’t call him negative. He has very clean disposal and really stood up last year when given the opportunity.

Not a bad analysis there Asgardian, especially from an outsider.

However I must challenge a few of these...

Cam Bruce had a great season from go to woe, 2nd in the B&F, played a variety of roles.

Jolly is more than just a pinch hitter now, his improvement since round 1 was amazing. By finals time he wasn't putting a foot wrong.

I can't remember Lamb being beaten by anyone?

I can.

In my opinion i think that the Demons are in for a 4th to 10th finish in season 2003.
All that bullsh(t talk about Melbourne having a good then bad year is just stupid!
With a fully fit and operating list, and the return of Guy rigoni into the midfield, other teams beware ..... they are a very dangerous unit as we saw when the demons met Brisbane at the Gabba last year.

It's not bull**** talk at all really. We have done it since 1997. Time to turn it around in 2003 though.

LOL I don't think he'll be mentioning his side for quite some time after this weeks performance against Arsenal! 5-0 when I went to bed, but I think Fowler scored as I was nodding off. :) Some consellation there I guess, eh BT? 4 Goals in first 20 minutes though, shattering ;)

It was 1-5, Anelka of course. The campions came to Maine Rd & taught us many a lesson.

As for the rags, win a derby any derby :D.

Don't worry, it won't happen again! The last time you guys won both derby games was way back in the seventies anyway!
