How could the top ten work out if the clubs picked the type of player they need?

What does your club need?

  1. Melbourne - Ruck - Naitanui is a certainty to replace White if they get the spoon
  2. West Coast - Rich would be hard for them to overlook
  3. Fremantle - Tough selection for the Dockers, gun defender, forward or midfielder?
  4. Essendon - pacy inside midfielder then a key defender to replace Fletcher
  5. Port Adelaide - KPP to replace Tredrea or an inside mid to replace Wilson
  6. Richmond - possibly a ruckman/CHF like McKernan or a CHB. They don't need any more pace, but a young inside mid wouldn't go astray.
  7. Carlton - key forward or a medium forward/midfielder who is a great kick
  8. St Kilda - key backman or a quick HFF
  9. North Melbourne - Rover to replace Harvey or a small forward to replace Grant? Yarran, Wells, Thomas and Campbell playing together would be something to watch.
  10. Collingwood - tall defender like Trengove or an inside midfielder?

i,ll take mckernan........ as a chf

Reasons for Macca over Trengrove - besides injury?

What about Tony Free's son and Michael Pickering son?

What are the chances that Pickering becomes a Kpp player for us?

Any suggestions on who the midfielder would be if we took 1 with pick 4? I'd assume we'd just take Hurley to cover the defensive problems and look for a mid wth our 2nd round pick

Midfielder. If not Rich then Hartlett or maybe even Swift (Depends how we rate him).

Yes we have ageing KPs but we are just going to have to play around with Pav, McPharlin and Tarrant for some time. We are going to continued to be killed whilst we have a weak midfield - we need the first or second best midfielder in this draft. And I am not convinced Hurley or Watts are super prospects.

Who do people think is the second best midfield draft prospect?

Is there a fair gap between Rich and the rest?

Just asking because there is alot of talk about the KPP this year and I want to hear what people think.

Thanks

Where do others rate Tom Swift? I've seen a bit of him, and he looks a great prospect (especially from the u16 carnival.) The injury hasn't done him any good, but I reckon he could step up to be a really class midfield in a good afl midfield unit.

i think Natanui would be a huge risk. I've only seen clips of him, and his jump is sensational, but by the sounds of things that is about all he is, a super athlete. Don't get me wrong, a good tap ruckman is very important, but around the ground it is hard to teach someone where and where not to go. He could turn out to be a great player, but he could easily turn out to be very average.

Rich looks a ready made midfielder, who ever gets first crack at him between Freo and West Coast will take him. Sounds like a hard nut, would comparing him to Joel Selwood be fair??

Naita isn't just an athlete. He's a high leaping 200cm ruckman plus an inside clearance winning machine. He gets the large majority of his possessions in a contested manner at stoppages (not the traditional mobile ruck role that gets a lot of outside ball i.e. Cox or can play forward and be a marking target i.e. Lade/Everitt), as well as having incredible tackling, 2nd effort and 1%er ability. IMO his downside is largely overstated on BF - I can't see him being a complete flop - IMO at worst he'll be a high leaping 2nd ruckman that can win a lot of clearances/inside ball/tackles/1%ers, but not much else. At best he could be the most influential player in the comp.

Rich plays more like Hodge than Selwood with his solid build, powerful and direct movements (without being exceptionally quick), long, penetrating, highly damaging kick, goal kicking, ferocious tackling and strong overhead marking ability.

Is Zaharakis a good enough kick to go top 15?

Is quick and has had a pretty good carnival .....you would think he would be gone as a late first rounder to mid 2nd rounder.

I just wish Freo had spent our Mark Johnson pick on him as he certainly has developed from last season and would have been a handy addition and with him and Hinkley - we would have pace to burn at Subi.

If Freo took him with our 2nd pick I wouldn't be overly dissapointed.

Chris Yarran - Looks like he'll fall at around our pick which is 6-12ish from what i've read. What are the odds of him eventually developing into more of a midfielder?? I cant see any club picking up a player thats just a forward pocket in the Top 15 so he'd have to have the potential to push up into the midfield when he matures??

and from champion data in game one of the nationals against country he had 12 effective kicks and 0 ineffective
His first 3 games of the championships have been really good, he must be climbing up the draft chart and could sneak in the top 15

Where did you get the Champion Data from ???? Can it be accessed by us riff raff.??

He can and has done on a P/T basis at junior level (colts and U16s level - av. 4 clearances/game). Haven't seen him get an sustained run in the middle at U18 level, but he has the key attributes (great acceleration and evasiveness, excellent disposal/decision making, core strength/balance) you'd want in a potential A class midfielder.

There's probably another Selwood out there. :)

People who know might say Adam Hartlett's brother Hamish would be in the mix if you don't get a shot at Rich.
Hamish Hartlett Midfielder 181cm
West Adelaide 14/08/1990 67kg

Hartlett is the younger brother of Adam who has been on Carlton's list for three years. But Hamish is a completely different player. While his brother is a key position type, Hamish is a midfielder who was prominent for South Australia in the 2006 NAB AFL Under-16 Championships. In that carnival he averaged 31 disposals and ranked No.1 for hardball gets and uncontested marks. He averaged 17 disposals in last years NAB AFL Under 18 Championships and made his senior SANFL debut late last season.
I hope Ryderisgod enjoyed their shot at getting Rich evaporate with their win on Sunday. :p :D

Our scout manager is very keen on him.

So the odds are, Essendon might pick him for their first pick.

I think Yarran would be in the mix from pick 4.

I think the Nat-Rich-Hurley train has a lot of love (though it is June and a lot can happen).

Pick 4 is when it is starting to get interesting.

Clubs will be looking at draft camp testing very closely in regards to endurance capabiltiy ....bit of a bargain if you can get a kid who can do a Cyril and play immediately in a pocket whilst he builds a body and motor for midfield work.

Freo for example would look at thier pick and say do we go for the best available mid our greatest weak point and try and find another Palmer Instant Fix (Rich, Sidebottom, Hartlett - depends if you are pick 2 or 6), do you look at the back KPP's and say grab Hurley as when Luke McP and Grover retire in 3 years time - you got no one ...or do you say Yarran replaces Farmer in a year or two and may just develop into that mid anyway.

Tough decisions ...all I know is Freo will be hoping a Swift, Walters or Zhakaris fall into their lap in the 2nd round regardless of who we target in the first.

If we could possibly trade up with an extra second round pick (Mundy, Warnock, Carr rumours abound) - I think I would be more comfortable grabbing Yarran and targeting 2 mids with the later picks.

I'm hoping that if those players want to go then we try to move heaven and earth to get another pick in the second round.

I think we are certain to get a good player if we have a pick between 3-6, unless of course the recruitment staff pull something out of left field.

My preference is Yarran if Rich and Nat are gone. Hurley is very tempting from what i've heard, but I've seen Yarran a few times and I think he will be a gun!

Rich will go to wce or freo who ever has the first pick of the 2, he is not overrated, he is a gun btw

The Eagles will tank enough games to ensure that Rich or Nat come to them.

Make no doubt about it with the draft picks they got last year and this year they will make strong claim in 2009 for a Top 4 finish.

I believe that the Eagles will not win a game when Freo plays first in the round and loses.

The Eagle want the coveted no 2 draft choice.
