As most of us would be aware Richmond runs a mentoring program where players are assigned a former player to turn to for guidance through their careers. Here is the list for 2008:

The one mentor-player combination that really caught my eye was the pairing of Meyer with St Francis, here's hoping that some of St.Francis determination can rub off on young Danny.

I love this initiative but I had to get out my copy of The Tigers of Old to check up on some of those players. Kevin Fitzgerald played 1 game for us in 1961 and 5 games in the seconds. From The Tigers of Old:

Kevin was a wingman who injured his leg in his first senior game against St Kilda in round 5 of 1961. As a result he never played for Richmond again. He later became a succesful professional runner winning the 10,000 metre titles in 1975 and 1975 and the Victorian one mile, in 1972 and 1973. Kevin also holds a degree in Commerce and lives in East Malvern.

Interesting....
Sometimes I see Bruce Tempany in Edwards' build and the way he moves out on the ground.
Gerald Betts couldn't get a kick at Richmond, and Johnson gets one....in the wrong direction!!
And Angus Graham will end up a very angry footballer if Ricky McLean is going to stay his mentor. lol

Polo got more Brownlow Votes in his debut than Powell would of got on his whole career and I can imagine all the back line strategy Jeff Hogg will be talking to young Luke about.

In saying that I think its a great initiative , not set up with playing positions in mind.

Bit surprised Sheedy didn't come to the party for young Collins though he would of learnt heaps.

Well, I hope this year mentoring will give them a mindset to be proud of the 100 years anniversary of the Tigers.
Hopefully it'll bear fruits and the Tiges will play passionately for the club.

Agree, some odd pairings, but I think the point is that many of these guys woul;d be considered successful in pursuits outside football such as business etc. and help our current crop players develop as people.
They won't always be footballers and I think you'll find off-field success can sometimes translate in to on-field sucess.
The idea of the mentor is to stabilise their off-field life. As far as on-field mentoring, that's the role of Wallace and his coaching panel!

Mark Summers is a physio in Fairfield (and a very good one I believe). For the life of me I can't remember him playing for Richmond.

Does anyone have any info on him?
