Draft Review 2008 - Re-do the 2008 draft

My kids are looking forward to Santa climbing down the chimney in 23 day’s time and delivering their Christmas presents. Multiple people have told my kids that this will happen if they are good. It’s possible they are lying.

Something made up things are easy to believe because it sounds really exciting and people/kids are gullible.

I'm afraid you seem more like the delusional one in this case. You find it so inconceivable that a rich footballer in his early twenties living in a city where he's not likely to be recognised would do drugs. I don't gain anything out of believing this rumour. I don't hate Hannebery or the Swans. But sure, go ahead and believe that people fabricated this rumour about this specific player purely because they thought it'd make good goss.

You're easily led by the looks of it.

After the year your team has had I am not sure I would be accusing anyone of taking something they shouldn't.

Relevance? Say every Essendon player took illegal steroids and recreational drugs in the off season, what bearing would that have on whether Hannebery is sufficiently disciplined to be the captain of the Swans? I'm not claiming myself or Essendon to be morally superior or anything - I just think other Sydney players are better suited to the role of captain. Just move on, already.

I just think it is funny you make this stuff up and then come on here and post it as fact. You have no idea if he will one day be captain. I have moved on - boring made up rumours are boring.

Ask most Sydney supporters and, I'm sure those inside the Club, and they'll tell you Hannebery is the natural choice to replace McVeigh as captain or co-captain in a few years. That speaks a hell of a lot more for the player than rumours about his weekend activities.

Name another player from the 2008 draft who is closer to being the captain of his club.

Jack Ziebell is much more likely to become a captain in my opinion. Rory Sloane's got captain written all over him and has a decent chance of taking over, though he might be pipped by Dangerfield. Also Phil Davis is already a captain.

Sloane. Touted as their next captain, and really should be their captain next year over Van Berlo, as he can't deliver on the field as well as he used to. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sloane captaining Adelaide in 2015, and I wouldn't have been surprised to see him captaining Adelaide in 2014 either.

Rockliff could potentially be the captain of the club in 2014... he is already vice captain and Brown is stepping down as captain...

His work rate and courage on the field are top notch, but his dickhead personality off the field isn't typical of good, disciplined leaders like McVeigh and Jack.

Odd because the lot of them (alongside a few other core players) tend to socialise together fairly often. It is common knowledge that Jack and Hannebery, in particular, are close.

There is no denying that Dan is boisterous, confident and likes getting out and about, but as many of us know enjoying your youth doesn't preclude you from being a good person or a competent leader. As it were, he has the distinction of being a coaches pet.

This. I think he might share the role with Adcock. Just to help guide Rockliff along the way. The boys at the club speak very highly of Adcock's leadership skills.

This 2008 draft set up the core of our midfield. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Would have been better if Cornelius or Banfield lived up to the potential they showed us early on in their careers.

Freo did very well from this draft.

I've just heard from people who've met him that he rates himself very highly. And he's well known for "enjoying the Sydney night life". I think he and Buddy will get along just fine.

Bloke at work met Hanners at a club during the o/s, he wasn't enjoying himself at all apparently. Your vague terms are doing nothing but embarrassing you.

I suppose saying that he has a bad attitude was out of line, but his weekend activities are well known. They may not be an indictment on his personality, however someone who partakes in the activities in that he does is probably not a great role model for younger players.

''It's something I'm comfortable with,'' Hannebery said. ''I remember when I was a kid I'd listen to AFL players and hang on every word and try to copy what they were doing. So I think that it's very important for us to set a good example.
''We have a strong culture at the club and the environment that we're trying to create is strongly connected with showing kids the right way to live. They see us as role models in that the things we do and say are what they're going to follow. It makes our job really important in that it's not just about winning footy games.''
Hannebery said this rounded approach offered the players a different perspective.
''You don't just rock up to training on a Tuesday or Thursday and then play on the weekend,'' the 19-year-old said. ''You review the game, do extra running sessions, yoga, ice baths, recovery, walks, you do your media, all sorts of things.
''But there are also a number of commitments outside football which we like doing, like going to schools, spending days with charities, going to hospitals, helping teachers out with training programs for kids, conducting footy clinics at night with work groups …
''There's a lot of different things which take up our week. It gives us a different dimension to our lives and careers.''
Hannebery - who studies economics part-time at the University of NSW - has progressed strongly this season and could be a star of the future. ''It was pretty eye-opening at first, understanding what the club's aims and expectations are of their players,'' he said.
''It's about developing a whole person, not just a footballer.''

Definitely not captain material:rolleyes:

Not to burst your bubble mate, because I think Hannebery is a future leader.... but half of what AFL players say about "setting a good example in all areas of life, blah, blah" is utter crap.

Are posters basing their predictions on what they have done so far?? Or who will eventually be the best in this draft?? It is confusing when you see Hurley at 5? This list has to be at the end of the career list.

In my case it was a mix of both. These players have played 4 seasons, so the mids are starting to hit the prime whereas KPP's have now grown into their bodies and can play a whole season. Ps I see Hurley as a KPD

They've had five seasons.
