This is just my assessment of the year and our players, I am unaware of where players are with their contracts also.

Bartram, Clint Still has done nothing that has stood out, if we have a fully fit list I think he may struggle to get a game still young but needs to improve his skills. Retain 5/10
Bate, Matthew this guy tries his guts out week in week out but he is not a CHF he is a flanker at best he will never be able to hold down a tough position like that. Retain 6/10
Bell, Daniel Lots of people have bagged him and I tend to agree, he is to slow, awareness is terrible and does not have clean hands, if he thinks he can play in the mid field he is kidding himself. Offload if right offer comes along 5/10
Bode, Jace Shown nothing Delist
Bruce, Cameron despite what people have said I would like to see him finish his playing days with the demons, his skills aren’t great but he may very well win our B&F Retain 8/10
Buckley, Simon Quick pace love when he takes the game on, one of the few positives in 2008, Retain 8/10
Carroll, Nathan I believe he could have been a good player he is a good over head mark and good kick, dare I say put him down forward? Retain 4/10
Cheney, Kyle Still yet to debut
Davey, Aaron We all know what he can do, a fully fit Davey will be a great start to 2009 Retain 5/10
Dunn, Lynden Stepped up this year did a few good tagging jobs, one thing he has to learn is to get more ball, whilst tagging you still need to hurt opposition when you can 7/10
Frawley, James For a top 20 pick he will struggle at this level, I hear every week how he is playing so well in the VFL level but cannot bring it to AFL level, hope I am wrong 3/10
Garland, Colin yet another positive in 2008 has stepped up and has grown into a back man, pretty cool under pressure, liked his games this year Retain 7/10
Green, Brad No one has really set the world on fire but this man has gone close, the way he has done it at both ends kicking goals and taking Carey like marks in the backline, he gives his all for the jumper and those people who are saying trade him you are a joke! Captaincy and 9/10
Grimes, Jack First game yesterday big wraps on this kid, looks like he has poise and good decision making skills will be better for the run Retain 3/10
Holland, Ben Retired good service, always cringed when the ball was in his hands,
Jamar, Mark Stepped up again this season, i would be telling him to kick the ball every chance he gets, also can take a good mark. Don’t think he is a number on ruckman though Retain 7/10
Johnson, Chris A. Also bought a bit of dash to the club he has good skills and think he will be one to watch in the future Retain 6/10
Johnson, Paul A. Great skills for a big man has come along leaps and bounds will be better for this season looking forward to a big year from PJ
Jones, Nathan We all know he can get the ball but his skills are terrible will prob get lynched for saying this but I would trade him if the right deal came along
Maric, Addam This kid is a goer good footy smarts will be a good small forward when he gets some more size about him Retain 6/10
Martin, Stefan Loved his work, my favourite prospect I just hope he stays at the club long enough, very smart boy also got 99.75 in his VCE Retain 6/10
McDonald, James James McDonald is James McDonald nothing will change still puts his head over the ball every week, real legend of the club
McLean, Brock Was having a great season till injury, will be back bigger and better next year
McNamara, Tom Yet to debut
Meesen, John What a fast this was, will he even play a game for the club???? Delist 1/10
Miller, Brad Works his guts out every week very tough being the only target week in week out been solid Retain 7/10
Moloney, Brent Beamer another year another injury loves the club hope his best is in front of him Retain 5/10
Morton, Cale Well be a great player with some size and more work on his skills good first season 7/10
Neitz, David Retired
Newton, Michael “Juice” has talent but looks disinterested, how he cannot get a game as a tall forward is beyond me Trade or delist
Petterd, Ricky Will be a good player been unlucky with injuries Retain 4/10
Rivers, Jared This bloke cannot catch a break, I really hope we get to see the best of him Retain 2/10
Robertson, Russell Unlucky season, still think he is one of the best kicks in our team, if he could keep his feet he could kick alot more goals Retain 4/10
Sylvia, Colin Colin would like look a superstar if he played with Geelong, i still say he is the worst at picking up an opponent no defensive skills what so ever Retain 6/10
Warnock, Matthew yet another positive in 2008 has stepped up and has grown into a back man will be good to play with his brother in 2009 Retain 7/10
Weetra, Isaac Delist
Wheatley, Paul Great year by wheats will go a long way to winning the B&F
Whelan, Matthew Solid year by Matty Retain 7/10
White, Jeff Retired, I went home from the game and wacked in the VCR “hotter than Hell” highlights of our 1998 season Jeffs first year at the club man what a player his marks his goals his 30m hit outs will be missed
Yze, Adem Retired

Not a bad summation IMO.

Must question your Daniel Bell "too slow" statement though.Daniel Bell is one of the fastest players at the MFC.May have won or placed in a 1/2 time sprint also if my memory serves me correctly.

Bell is a good player who works hard and is courageous, his problem seems to be his decision making. This may be due to a lack of confidence?

Sorry i did mean farce, yeah bit of a slow day at work but the best thing is i was getting paid for it.

Can't say i agree with your assessment of Nath Jones. Yes his skills aren't always great but he is tough as nails, something melbourne has been lacking in the past decade. A starting midfield of Brock, Beamer and Jones should be intimidating to the opposition given they are all fully fit.

someone mentioned earlier, sylvia may attract a R2 pick, can he play midfield though or is he a midfielder?

He is quite versatile, he has spent most of his time up forward for Melbourne, but has also had stints across half-back and in the centre.

His fitness is an issue, he probably doesn't have the stamina to play in the middle all day. In saying that, he hasn't had the luxury of a full pre-season, so if he can achieve that going into next season, I would expect him to spend more time in the midfield. His defensive work ethic also lacks a bit, and he's quite unaccountable at times.

I'd like to see him spend more time in the middle, but for now, he spends most of his time in the forward line.

Hopefully Melbourne retain his services in any case.
