Richmond give Saints Polo and 26 for Kosi
WCE give Kerr and 18 to Saints
Saints give 13 and 26 and 29 for Kerr

St.Kilda Receive: Kerr + Pick 18
St.Kilda Lose: Kosi + Pick 13 + Pick 29

Richmond Receive: Kosi
Richmond Lose: Polo + Pick 26

West Coast Receive: Pick 13 + Pick 26 + Pick 29
West Coast Lose: Kerr + Pick 18

Seems like a pretty good deal but I don't think WC would take that IMO.

A great post CHBench. I posted almost the exact sentiments on Saintsational last week.

Fortune favours the brave & trading Dal/Kosi (I'd chuck in Montagna as well) will be very unpopular but will be the making of the club as a real force IMO.

Don't forget to add Hawthorn trading Croad when he was just about the most popular bloke at the club too. End of 2000, they made a prelim & still made a hard & unpopular decision. They got Luke Hodge out of it! It took two years until Hodge started to pay dividends but is now a Norm Smith Medalist. The fact that they did the old Kerry Packer trick on the Dockers & got Croad back just shows how shrewd Clarkson & Pelchen are.

As much as thought of Kerr in a saints jumper stirs me (!) I think that it is time to load up on as much as young talent as we possibly can.

It's time for Ross to be brutal in his player assessments and build HIS premiership team. I hope the board give him a contract extension so that he has the confidence to do so.

Figured i would put my idea's up.

Kosi to port for D.Pearce and 2nd round pick

Send 2nd round pick from Port to Ess for A.Lovett

Send Dal to Sydney for O'keefe

Saints to keep all of there normal draft picks and lose Kosi and Dal

Gain: OKeefe,Pearce,Lovett

That sounds pretty good actually. :thumbsu:
But i still rather we keep the picks that are traded to us. Gain some quality in the first 2 rounds. If we can get 4 picks inside 36. Would be a very good move.

but on the flipside topping up with speed and quality could just be what we need to have another tilt at the flag...

Always a tough call. Were only guessing. I reckon if Kosi is on the table Port will be interested. As will be Sydney with Dal Santo.

I to reckon we need to top up on picks but we have also gotta have one eye on now. The squad that we assembled with lower draft picks should of been were Hawthorn was on Saturday. If there not showing there full potential now are they gonna be showing it it 3 or 4 years time while we wait for draft picks to bulk up and show there maturity?

Roo,Kosi,Clarke,Clarke,Dal Santo,Ball that was our group that should off taken us higher but have under performed. The tough call needs to be made now as to whether there apart of the group and we push hard to be contenders or start again and ship the under performers out.

So basically, we have two options:
1) Load up on experienced players (eg. Kerr, Cousins etc) and have a tilt at the flag in 1-3 years at the expense of young talent or...
2) Bite the bullet and offload many players (eg. Dal, Kosi etc) and load up on young guns for a tilt at the flag in 4-10 years.
There are obvious upsides and downsides to each and I'm not sure which has more potential.

Can afford to lose: Fiora, X, Birss, Charlie, Ferg, L Fish, Rix, Raph, Gwilt
Can't afford to lose: S Fish, Roo, Gram, Goddard, Joey
For the right price: Kosi, Dal, Milne, Schnieder, Dempster, Blake, Bakes
Other: The rest!
Thoughts..?

Pretty much what i said on another thread.
I'd be very happy if we got 4 picks inside the top 40. :thumbsu:
Actually thinking back, the club has ruled out trading our draft picks for other players. But has not ruled out trading our players for other picks.

Hmm, Fiora for pick 150, Rix for pick 149 and Charlie and L Fish together for pick 123. :)

The issue I have with off loading good senior players for a tilt at a flag in 4 - 10 years is the group you have named in 'Can't afford to lose' may no longer be around.

Fourth spot on the ladder is the wrong place to be dumping key players for long term benefit. This should only be done if we've bottomed out and we have a number of low picks.

I don't think there is a need to sacrifice picks that we have already been allocated. I do however feel there is a need to get rid of dead wood or under performing players.

Trade Priority would be to gain either Draft picks or players between 20 and 24 that are contributing week in week out or adleast are showing signs of growth.

I think unfortunatly for us. We have alot of players that are quite good but they haven't improved or shown signs of improvement.

Just because they come with a 1st round pick tag does'nt meen they belong.

Just to add to this I heard Lyon would have been sacked if you didn't make the finals. Not sure if they'd offer hi a contract extension if that was their sentiments. You can take it with a grain of salt but that is what I heard. Doesn't mean he can't be 'brutal in his player assessments' and starting my trading Del Santo and Kosi would be a good move.

RYAN O'KEEFE WISHES TO COME BACK TO VICTORIA!
This is no joke, and considering our Sydney connection, I believe we would be the frontrunners. Comments.

Didn't want to read 13 pages, but has anyone mentioned Wojinski?

Word is he wants out (that's bound to happen when your dropped for the granny though) and he is exactly what we need. Very very fast, breaks lines. Should be able to pick him up on the cheap as well, maybe a 3rd rounder? Would be great if we could get him.

I'd love to grab Wojak. One of him and Lovett would be awesome.

He's a bit old though isn't he? 27-28 I think?
Really? FMD I thought he was more the 24 y.o range. Makes you think twice, but then again we might be able to get him even cheaper that way. Plus he's not a woman bashing **** like Lovett. Sign him for a 3 year deal Saints, but only if he comes pretty cheap!

Wojo to saints for a 3rd round pick get a good few years outta him something we really need so can release gram into the midfied/wing

Untouchable

kozi - could be considered for a trade but just cant let him go can be a game winner see how he goes for 1 more year
roo- awesome best year yet
lenny
ball
baker - rough year injuries but will come back better than ever
milney
chips
gram

Trade

Leigh fisher - mid range draft pick (good tagger but we have enough and hes just not quick enough)

M rix (not up to afl standard)
fiora (too soft not going to get a pick for him either)

I see him playing for the saints in 09 with big fraser gone:thumbsu:But do we have to trade or is his contract rooted ?

Always interesting to check the B&F voting (BigFooty 383 Player of the Year in this instance):

1st (52 votes) Riewoldt
2nd (45) Hayes
3rd (40) Fisher S
4th (33) Goddard
5th (25) Harvey
eq 6th (24) Ball
eq 6th (24) Gram
eq 6th (24) Hudghton
9th (22) Dal Santo
10th (14) Milne
11th (13) Montagna
12th (9) Koschitzke

I don't think finishing 9th-12th in the B&F would be sufficient to protect you come trade time (but is worth remembering).
