Essendon and Freo will be competitive but not consistent enough to play finals.
Melbourne and West Coast to fight out the spoon.

Port if they can get Kerr will be a top 4 side.

Brownlow: Kerr 27 votes
Coleman: Franklin 84 goals

We will not get Kerr most likely, but the thing to remember is that Port have the potential to be a top 4 side. I'm glad some opposition supporters realize.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Your shit list.

Yep, they're my surprise packet for next year. Reckon they've been tanking for picks since mid-season and have a habit of climbing the ladder quickly. A fit Chad Cornes will make an enormous difference. He's as good a player as he is a bad bloke.

Get on him for the Brownlow next year ya reckon? :D

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

LMFAO.

Have you had a look at their list?

They barely even have one, half of it has been delisted/ retired/ asked to be traded
Well I was just trying to pick something a little left of field, doesn't mean I think it'll actually happen. :)
I also had Rhys Palmer for the Brownlow and Harry Taylor for the Norm, like that's gonna happen!

Oh i didn't see those.

Only looked at the rising star as it's the only thing a melbourne player has a chance of winning:eek:

I like this ladder. not like as in it is easy on the eye (I hate St kilda in 14) but like as in I think you could be on to something. I have a few changes.

VERSION 01

TOP FOUR

Hawthorn - the new benchmark of the competition. Will take a ton of confidence into 2009 after their thumping GF win. Just a well-oiled unit who hit their stirde perfectly in 2008.
Bulldogs - Lot to love about them. Still some major holes (like a key forward) that need filling but I think they go about their business the same way they did this year. Mid-season, I thought they were a HUGE chance for a flag. They were 29 points shy of a chance to give it a crack in the end.
Geelong - The GF loss will have a bad impact on Geelong. They will be tough to beat still, but will be upset a few times because they are now vulnerable. Hawthorn have exposed a few weaknesses but not every team will be able to expose them all which is why they will still easily be a top four team.
Carlton - The "out of bottom 8 - into top 4" rule applies here. Judd and Stevens and Murphy will dominate the midfield for the Blues and Fev showed what he can do when he gets his shit together. my dark horse for 2009.

MAKING UP NUMBERS
Port Adelaide - 2008, mark my words, was an aberration. Port will be hungry for success and will be stronger and fitter next season. They will bounce back, handsomely. Still a solid midfield and decent youth breaking through the ranks. I expect big things of Port next year.
Collingwood - Don't see the Pies improving too much on their 2008, but don't see them falling behind either. Still very much a young side, but young sides have surprised in the past, they could do it again.
Richmond - Amazingly, only two places better than 2008, but for Tigers supporters, this is a lot better than this season was. Richo is the wildcard. Big time. with a lot of youth coming through the ranks, we will see the cream rise to the top. Exciting times ahead for Tigers fans. Long overdue too.
Adelaide - Can't see them missing the eight, but also can't see them doing too much damage in finals. Will be competitive but the Crows just aren't the most balanced team out there. The old cliche, "they are an aging team" grows more and more true each year. Still, capable of anything they are. We'll see.

JUST SHY
North Melbourne - The roos are due for a poor season and I think they will drop out of the eight next year. Can see an enromous lot of positives for the roos - and of course, there is the shinboner spirit - but I don't see them making it at the business end of the season.
Sydney - Swans have been shaky in recent years and I think this is the year their slow starts will catch up with them. A list of battlers and hard-workers but ultimately, I don't see the swans there in September.
Fremantle - Call me crazy, but now that we are looking at one of the weakest Fremantle sides of recent years, this will most likely be the year they break through and get somewhere. May finish in the top four perhaps. It stands to reason that Freo are the most enigmatic side in the competition and so placing them outside the eight seems logical. its just easier to predict they will miss the finals and be wrong than predict they will make it and be wrong - again!
St Kilda - Make no mistake. This is not tanking, this is because next year is for development. The players learnt this year they are nowhere near the benchmark of the competiton. My guess is they start off woefully, try hard with full strentgh team and get flogged. then Ross decides to try and build a team - and by build, I mean get some experience into them. This is what teams such as Geelong, hawthorn and the Bulldogs did. this year, the saints weren't ready for fourth place. they aearnt it fair and square, but they are a long way behind the top three. A transition year.

BOTTOM FOUR
Essendon - Similar to St Kilda, next year will be a transition year. Injuries wrecked them this year and their ladder position suggested they weren't as bad as that but I think the Bombers won't be able to take it up to the big boys of the competition next year so they should work on just developing players and trying to build a team that can have a tilt in a few years time. Like St Kilda though, if they get everything right sooner, they could finish a lot higher. Tough to place but I can't be too fickle in predictions so I say bottom four.
Brisbane - Voss has a massive task ahead of him. I have no idea how good a coach he will be - the last to go untried was Tim Watson, but suyrely history won't repeat itself. The reason I have placed the lions so low is because they have one vast weakness that opposition sides know how to exploit now. With Brown and Bradshaw up forward they have a fearsome weapoon. Unfortunatley for Brisbane, this is all they have up forward. If they can find three or four other guys to chip in each week and share the goals around more, they could do a lot better. Can see 7 or 8 wins only for the lions next year.
Melbourne - rarely does a side finish dead last two years in a row. For this reason, I have tried to find another team worthy of wooden spooners, and only found one other. So many holes to fill and so many areas they struggle in but Melbourne fans will certianly have some reasons to smile - they will develop a new team next year and it will be a good experience to watch the team grow and bond.
West Coast - What makes me think the eagles will break their wooden spoon duck? Call me crazy but I just can't see the eagles challenging too many sides next year. I also think that the eagles will win 5 or maybe even 6 games, amking them one of the most successful wooden-spooners inthe comp. The fact is, Eagles didn't completely tank this year, they had major problems in a number of areas and they won't be able to be fixed in one draft. melbourne showed in the only meeting between the two bottom sides this year that they are ahead of West Coast in many ways.

So there you have it. my ladder for season 2009.

Anything could happen in finals, but here is my prediction:

Hawks to hold out blues by a few goals in a tough qualifying final.

Dogs to pip Cats in massive upset. (well, seems like an upset now)

Tigers to keep their dream alive for one more week and power to win the showdown final.

Week two sees the blues and cats bounce back handsomely.

Week three sees the Hawks hold off the cats in an epic Prelim and the Bulldogs well and truly wallop the blues.

That makes it dogs and hawks in the Grand Final.

Who wins? Wait and see. :D
