NFL 2009 NFL - Week 1

any other QB in Pittsburgh and the Steelers wouldnt make the playoffs wth that O-Line. BR is just so good at scrambling out of the crumbling pocket, and not afraid of taking a sack or hit, that he'll wait for one of his targets to get free. The longer a play goes on, the easier it is for a receiver to get free of the coverage.....if he keeps moving.

Only first game but big improvements required. Only matter of time til BR takes a shot that puts him out for a few weeks.

Very true mcgarnacle.

I brace myself for nearly every snap he survives.. can't believe there are O-line men out there who don't want a RING.. ;) the O-line was all over the shop like a dogs breakfast.. but I can't take away anything from the titans pass rush.. will clamp teams if they're got a swiss cheese O-line like the Steelers.

Damn I hate that. Winning a game from a toss of a coin. Anyway, the Titans look pretty good. Should be a good game when I see them play the Jets in a couple of weeks.:thumbsu:

Enjoyable game, two good defnsive teams going at it. Ward must be thanking the gods for the coin toss going the right way. Terrible mistake from a guy who should know better.

The OL really needs to improve. Couldn't get the run game going at all and provided no protection for Ben. But it isn't too bad, he still threw for more than 350 yards! We should have scored more, but sometimes that just comes down to luck. Or an improved run game.

I watched the entire game and thought apart from a couple of plays the OL gave Big Ben plenty of time in the pocket to throw, it seemed he had all day to find receivers at will.

Sure they cant run block to save themselves but to put it all on them for how many times Ben get sacked isnt fair as its the way Ben plays. Any other quarterback in the league would not have 6 secs+ to find a receiver and would either eventually throw it away or try to escape out of the pocket and go for a run. That's not Ben's style and what makes him so good is his strength in the pocket and ability to escape from potential sacks.

So yeh while they're definetly not world beaters you cant hate on the Steelers OL in the pass game today.

my Green Bay loving, Wisconsin born and raised, football fanatical GF's father and I had a huge debate last night on the Titans D which culminated in him saying "what the hell do Australians know about NFL anyway?". I got up this morning and linked him to this thread. Text 20 mins ago... "I apologise, wow what wonderful and insightful posts i might have to switch NFL forums". Nice work fellas. :thumbsu:

and true too. I love reading this forum.

I under-estimated the Titans D, they were better than I thought. BUT, I should've known, given their DC is former Packers kamikaze Safety, Chuck Cecil.

If I had known that, it might've been enough to switch my tips, but I know for next time.

Thanx. Also let your GF's father know we've got amateur leagues playing the gridiron here for nearly three decades!! I officiated for several seasons and it just made my enjoyment for the game just blossom no end. Clearly a better team sport with more drama/ action / physical body contact!!! (illegal now in AFL) and all the rest than most other sports out there including AFL which I have dropped as a fan after following quite closely for over 30 years!! Have followed the NFL for last 20 years quite passionately and 5 years passively.. that's 25 years all up. Media Coverage in the Australia media is dreadful/ virtually zilch/ biased and dumbed down :thumbsd: :thumbsd: (but NFL games are shown more regulary which is a blessing) Still not discussed at all with any real integrity and superior knowledge.

All true, really, really bad coverage here. Stands out like a sore thumb for me being back here now. Except for maybe that Sunday night show on sen, which I still have yet to listen to. I really hope we get the NFL Network going on cable here at some point soon. It would certainly help fill the media void. I really hope this year we won't have to watch another hack SB coverage filled with AFL turned NFL analysts/experts for a day, talking about how great punters are all through the next SB........ of coarse I suppose a punter could only be great in the eyes of those "experts" if he played AFL once anyway right?

yeah pretty much, or they can shelve him for the season, and if he comes back next season .. this whole saga will happen again ..

it's gotten to the point:

1. excited with the trade, help with the run game, we paid a pretty high price, but DE was a position of need, and we aren't a bad football team if we are able to stop the run and be able to pass the ball

2. gets to the point of Seymour not showing up, distraction, alright .. dude's annoyed that he got traded, having to move his family across country, or maybe he wants a new contract? fair enough, he's 30, wants one more pay day

3. just starting to get disrespectful, not just to the Raiders, but to all the other players that have been traded and played for their new team, regardless of if they wanted to move or not .. NFL is a business, you are a professional football player

doesn't help that his agent is eugene parker, the same eugene parker that is handling Crabtree's contract stuff ..

hopefully what the Raiders have done with the reserve/left squad list doesn't void the "doing the physical" part of the deal, cause if Seymour doesn't pass the physical, the deal is void .. but what i want to know is, does not showing up result in you not passing the physical?

Where did you read this? Is he going to play?

various sources are confirming it, it's not on NFL.com but:

- ESPN is breaking it
- David White via ESPN is breaking it
- Adam Schefter is breaking it (and this dude is the guy I would tend to believe, cause he has been pretty spot on)
- Dude on a forum I go to, who has been pretty reliable in the past is also breaking it

No new contract, not to sure if we will see much of him on Monday, but word is he will be there Sat night/Sun morn

Compared to how much coverage AFL gets in the US?

Well, there you go, re: Seymour...

According to The Boston Herald's Ron Borges, Richard Seymour will board a flight to Oakland on Saturday afternoon to join his new team.
Reports were that Seymour won't play Monday night, but he says he definitely plans to play and he will be "the guy wearing No. 92 on top of the quarterback." Seymour also notes that he has been in regular contact with coach Tom Cable and owner Al Davis. Seymour was also busy moving his family back to South Carolina and football was not his "main concern at that point." We'll see what happens with the situation.
