Draft prospect to utilise soccer smarts

Karnezis played eight games (excluding finals) for Oakleigh in the 2010 TAC Cup, booting 28 goals and averaging 19 disposals, 54 per cent of them contested.

Sheehan noted Karnezis' ability to play as a second or third tall forward and as a defender made him similar to Carlton swingman Jarrad Waite.

''Patty's got some of that freakish ability about him. He's certainly got great hands,'' Sheehan said. ''When the ball gets into his area, whether it's a ground ball or over his head or to his side, he just doesn't fumble.

''He's also a great set shot for goal. He's got a great technique and looks very composed and balanced.''

''The creativeness is something that stands out with him. He sets up the game, and that may well come from soccer,'' Sheehan said.

''You even go back to Gary Ablett senior and Tony Modra and see some of the freakish things they did and think, 'Gee, that's some of the cross-training from soccer allowing them to do that'.

I'll qualify my statement first by saying it is all based on the one youtube clip, but I just watched the Watson clip and am seriously stumped over the hype?

By gee he looks WAY shorter than 195cm, I thought the video had been mislabelled when I first saw him on screen. At best looks about David Teague height if not smaller, body shape of a Jarred Moore (could also be the number 33) but seriously?

Also looked more like a third tall or a loose man in defence, just on that didn't see him play on a particular player and spoil, just sweeping the ball out of defence.

Obviously there must be more to him than that to justify the hype (would like a comment from the seasoned draft watchers) but just based on that, seems like no scope for improvement.

Can someone correct me?

He played on Darling. And he looks massive.

I've had the same thought.

For a KPP, Watson does look short and stocky for some reason.

Watson looks like a small midfielder in that shot.

Probably the tree trunks he has for legs.

Looks like a truck like Rutten in the second photo and Calder's colours.

Hopefully Watson doesn't end up like Livingston who had a solid build that made him look short and stocky.

Don't hold your breath that Watson will get past Geelong and possibly the Roos who could all need young KPD. It would be a miracle if Watson got past Hawthorn who need key defenders more than we do. Taking Watson to screw the Hawks might be a good fringe benefit if that's who they want.

Hopefully we snap him up with a late pick.

I've seen him play a couple of times and he has a whole lot of C**t in him. He's a really speedy and clever small forward/mid that is really hard at the footy.

Will probably slide to late in the draft as he doesn't have "AFL height".

Schneids isn't quick...but you are right he has some mongrel and won't die wondering. As far as the interviews go a lot of them are set up for the clubs in a schedule so all attendees get some interviews...wouldn't read too much into that

Watson, to me at least, really resembles a left footed Daniel Bradshaw. Very similar body shape and moves very similar.

Bradshaw was a power house like Fevola with speed and agility.

Watson would probably have to play CHB like Hurley.

Hurley was done on the lead by Hampson this year, so you wouldn't play that type of defender deep at full back. If we get Watson, I could see him playing the Harley role across half back with Jamison, Bower, Austin, White, Thornton and Laidler playing on the mobile marking forwards. Doubt that he'll get through with GC probably looking for defenders to complement Bock, Coad, etc.

I expect Hughes to make us all happy by pulling a Karnezis, Pitt or Jacobs out of the hat.

He probably only looks so fast because he attacks the footy soo hard, accelerates into the footy on leads. He played in the forward pocket in school footy and dominated.

Better prospect than Max Otten (played in the same school team) but will likely go after max in the draft (if at all).

Definitely worth a late pick due to courage alone.
