he's got a pretty decent first class record. FC average of 42 would get you almost a walkup start in the test team now.

dont mind him too much, you just get the feeling he could yell "sausage" at any moment

Do tend to agree, but he seems a bit more subdued in tests, though I'm yet to hear him commentate this summer. Most of my cricket "watching" thus far has been via the radio this summer.

He's near unbearable in one dayers and 20 over games, though I don't watch to much of them anyway.

I recall that Dennis Commetti called some cricket when 7 showed the Australian tour of South Africa back in '97. (I think David Hookes and Drew Morphett were there too) Fox8 showed the games live and screened Simpsons in the lunch breaks (this was when Foxtel had no commercials). Good memories!
Used to do some ABC commentary.

I don't mind Brayshaw as a cricket commentator, he's actually quite knowledgeable about the game and injects a bit of humour. Probably more suited to T20s and ODIs but I don't mind him commentating the odd test match just for a change from the usual Nine commentators. Unfortunately he usually replaces Richie or Bill rather than Healy or Slater.

thats right, played a handful of games for WA, father was a WA cricketing legend.

One of very few players to take 10 wickets in a Sheffield Shield innings.

Ian Brayshaw was a very handy allrounder. And I used to enjoy his radio commentary as well.

James Brayshaw 4934 f-c runs @ 42.53 with 10 hundreds and 29 fifties
Ian Brayshaw 4325 f-c runs @ 31.80 and 178 f-c wickets at 25.08

I'd say James Brayshaw knows enough about the game to be a commentator.

Certainly better qualified than "was in the Australian team for a long time" which seems to be the standard everyone else has been picked on.
