i dont either. sometimes he comes across as a bitter man.

hate it when he craps on about sydney uni cricket club, and all the shires in sydney

That's his worst aspect. I actually like how he says it how it is. Along with maxwell, they will openly criticise a bowler or batsmen or whole side for that matter.

They will criticise cricket Australia no matter whAt. They Can't take the radio rights off the national broadcaster. John Howard probably left some law to prohibit it

KOK was talking up the possiblity of a win and what an impact Warner could make, to the point where you think it could actually happen. Warner is out second ball of the day, and Australia's best partnership was a meaningless one from the tailenders. While some of you may like KOK, this is a typical example of how he's a bit pie in the sky with his analysis and a lesser "expert" commentator.

Well in fairness a lot of people, including myself, thought the same thing. If Warner cut loose with a quickfire hundred yesterday it could have set Australia up for a successful run chase, no one other than Notradamus could have predicted he would get out 2nd ball of the day.

Chasing down 600 on that pitch wasn't impossible but to South Africa's credit they bowled extremely well and were helped by a few of our batsmen throwing their wickets away with reckless shots.

No, not in fairness, fairness nothing. Maybe, fair enough if the ABC got a bigfooty poster and asked them "We have a special guest. A cricket fan named Plugger35. Plugger, what do you think will happen today?" Then you come up with that ****. You're just some no name who might play local cricket, with little genuine credibilty.

But KOK, a former test player, dreaming like that? **** off. When you consider how many runs were to be chased down, Philanders reputation, Warner's "other" reputation, you didn't have to be Nostradamus to guessed what could've happend (Probably could've got decent odds for Warner's wicket in teh first over, or first few). Remember, KOK is a former test player, not some anonymous internet cricket expert.

No run chase is impossible at any stage of an innings, even at 9/306 we still had a chance, but it was never going to happen and should never have been seriously entertained.
It would have beaten the world record by about 180 runs and with our calibre of batsmen at the moment that notion is akin to Namibia winning the next world cup....which is not impossible.

Is Robin Jackson still commentating for Supersports? Heard he's got cancer, too, wouldn't have thought he'd still be in the box. Cracking commentator, hope he gets well
Robin Jackman is one of Test cricket's great footnotes.

I'm hoping Tony Greig the best with his help, but I'm certainly not missing him going "Right, so" every single over after an ad break. So irritating.

600 was beyond possibility. And Australia is never going to be able to rely on 20/20 Warner to win Australia a test match....

But its not really wise to just say "we're just waiting for australia to lose the 10 wickets, its a formality why are you still listening?"

Precisely. Part of a commentator's role is to give the listener or viewer a reason to stay tuned in.

I'm a bit the other way with a lot of cricket "experts" who give opinions as how they see a day's play panning out. I recall at the end of day 4 in Adelaide, people such as Darren Lehmann and many others) saying the Test will be all over sometime just after lunch. As it transpired, the Saffies batted out the day and saved the Test.

Now everyone's entitled to an opinion, but there was no discussion of South Africa's resilient batting line up, or the fact the Aussies were down a strike bowler, it was simply a matter of because they were 4 wickets down, the other 6 wickets would fall cheaply.

And I love it when a team may have a lead of around 280 with 4 sessions to go, and you start hearing "They've got enough runs, declare and send them in". You know all along if these people were the captain in that situation they would NEVER declare, so why all the false bravado?"

People don't like the 9 commentary? Fair enough, but if Channel 10 get what they are after and start covering Test cricket can you imagine what a debacle that would be? Headed up by "youse guys" Andy Maher and other assorted idiots. I cringe at the thought.

Can we bag Ian Chappell in here for his ridiculous notion of having Henriques at 5 in the test team. This is a guy who averages under 30 at Shield level and until this year hadn't scored a hundred. Sure he's improving, but one swallow doesn't make a summer.

He lives in fantasy land does Chappelli. On what planet is Moises Henriques even remotely ready or worthy of a baggy green?

No surprise he would dump cowan, his answer to every cricket question is "just play more aggressively".

Never mind that the two test teams who are clearly better than us right now are often defensive minded teams that have spurts of aggression when the situation warrants it.

Tongue in cheek, or ignorant.

Neither! He said Australia couldn't rely on Warner to win them a test match, and I think he's right. Warner's record consists of some big scores (brilliant to watch of course!) interspersed among many other lower scores. He doesn't have the scoring profile of a typical top order batsman. Where are the hard fought 30s and 40s that blunt the new ball? If Warner gets out out for 30, it's usually in the 6th or 7th over and the new batsman still has to face a practically new ball.

Further to my earlier post (#419).

That was exactly the type of innings from Warner that I wanted to see. Pity he ran himself out; a really big one went begging.

What is with Pigeons' accent? It's not even an accent. I mean, what is it? Sounds normal, but every now and then, sounds foreign. Like when he says 'Toyoto', like 'Toy-or-ta', that sort of thing. I've watched this dude for 20 years, and I've imagined that he'd have a different voice. It's sort of the same vibe as listening to someone on radio for years, and imagining them looking a certain way, and then you see them, and behind this huge booming voice is a little pipsqueak in a light blue tracksuit.

But meh, I think what he actually says is quality.

I like Chappell, Lawry, Benaud (although holy heckory, he's getting old isn't he?). I actually don't mind Tubs. Slater I can take or leave. And Healy did irritate me, but now I tune in just to hear what ridiculous awkward things he comes up with, and how his co-commentators argue with him and correct him. That in itself is entertaining.

I quite enjoy listening to Julian/Waugh/Blewett/Fleming over on Fox for the BigBash.

I haven't really investigated anything on radio too much, but I will say that the other day it took about 15 mins just to get a score from the ABC. I was out, needed an update from my car. How hard is it just to tell me the score? Then I realised I do have a smart phone and could have checked that way. Oh crap, did I say that out loud? Is anyone listening to this? My name is Ian Healy and I like BigFooty.

But yeah the halcyon days will always be a slightly younger Richie, Bill, Tony, both Chappells etc commentating a great ODI. That's the feel of cricket to me.
