2012 Draft Discussion

Meh, everytime a freo or west coast blow in starts flapping their gums about Richy being homesick, I take faith in knowing that Richy knows both of those clubs burned him on draft day. It's something I don't imagine a player forgets.

If Mayes is a bit miffed, it isn't with us. Bring the rage son, bring the rage.

Hawks stocking up on key forwards. Worried about Buddy.............

Bad choice Brisbane will be gone with in the year could lose both Karny and Mayes the same year could get some handy draft picks though
This kind of reactionary posting is not going to help anybody or progress the conversation.

I know this is a high tension kind of event, but it would be good if we could take a deep breath before we post and really think about what we say. We knew there would be some smokeys, and that our recruiters were thinking differently to BigFooty groupthink.

Let's chill out guys. Let's sit back and see how these guys turn out. They're Lions now. Let's welcome them.

Can't help but notice the big smiles and excitement of the other draftees when they are interviewed....Mayes is not one of them..

..and I'm not panicing...but I am a Lions supporter passing an opinion/observation re the difference in one of our picks, as are a few others here.....atm Mayes does not look happy to be a Lion ....but of course, get him with our superstars;) and that could very well change..

No defenders in the first 3 picks interesting, i too can't wait for the reasons they went the way they did. Sorry not that familiar with the defenders we have coming through in the ressies i know we have a few up and coming forwards and mids but can anyone enlighten me as to what defenders i can look forward to seeing coming through. Mayes looks good........ a bit early for all the go home talk he hasn't left home yet lol.

Garlett and Boston haven't gone yet!

Two genuine KPP sized players with over 15 beep test results? Can't complain about that. Can put them straight onto a bulking program and not worry about their running capacity.

KcKeever has been elevated, and keep an eye out for Justin Clarke. Sam Michael can play down back as well.

I'm inth
I think you may have just nailed it mate... this is how the club sees it too... two talls and a quality mid/forward not so much locked in forwards but versatile talls.

Once again I think Kerr and co might just might have pulled a couple of smokeys that will surprise us :)

Welcome aboard Sam, Marco and Michael... welcome to the pride, its great to have you join the family :)[/quote

I'm in that camp too. Mayes is exactly what we need. The two KPPs also have endurance and height. Look good picks to me.

Pretty happy with this draft. Mayes will be great player. Sure he doesn't have a grin ear to ear but we don't even know what kind of a personality he is. May just be flabbergasted by all the attention or nervous with cameras and microphones pointed at him. Paparone's dad leaves me a little worried but the club interviews these boys, they're in a far better position to judge how homesick they will become, if at all. Close interests me, sounds a bit like Sam Michael, hulking athlete who runs all day, but seems to have a more natural understanding of the game (assumed from 3 minutes of footage however), look forward to seeing him after a pre-season and a year in the gym.

On a side note, Garlett must have really scared off clubs with his behaviour.

In terms of defenders, we have Merrett, Patfull and Maguire still at the top of their games. Should all have some quality years, maybe Goose less. Whereas Browny only has maybe 2 years left.

Also - if someone fails as a key forward, you can try to turn them into a key defender.

Has the look on his face that he wanted to stay in SA.

Who could blame him. Chances are he was under the impression Port would draft him and pave the way to stay home, but since Wines was available, that was scuttled. He would be very naive if he thought that there wasn't a possibility of something changing.

Add pongracic, Colquhoun, Graham, Haynes, it will be quite the rookie draft.

How many rookie spots do we have empty?

A bit hard to work it all out....
