Re: 2012 Draw

should be out later this month.
We'll get the blockbuster in Round 1 i'm sure, just don't expect it to be a home game.
probably Carlton or Hawthorn on a Thurs/Fri night.
I heard Rich/Carl isn't a lock for season opener next year

Re: 2012 Draw

I'm assuming that we'll be playing Gold Coast in Gold Coast again given that they were selling a holiday package for it at the B&F last night

Re: 2012 Draw

Hope we get a game against North Melbourne at Etihad or Melbourne at the MCG.

I have brothers who go for both of these teams, and we want to go, without having to go to Skilled (or Symons) Park to see it every year.

Even if they play them twice, then they can have the game at both venues.

With Gazza at Gold Coast I'm sure we will get to play them twice.
I presume we will play Hawthorn, Collingwood(traditional rivalry), Gold Coast(Gazza), Melbourne(rebounce) and Adelaide(Sanderson) twice next season.
I just don't want to see 2 interstate trips in a row happen again, despite we handled it very well this year. Others should be fine.

Re: 2012 Draw

Here is my attempt to our fixture next year:
1:Essendon (ES) A
2:W Bulldogs (SS) H
3:Hawthorn (MCG) A
4:P Adelaide (AAMI) A
5:Melbourne (SS) H
6:Sydney (ANZ) A
7:St. Kilda (MCG) H
8:GW Sydney (SS) H
9:Carlton (ES) A
10:Gold Coast (MS) A
11:Brisbane (SS) H
12:N Melbourne (ES) A
13:Collingwood (MCG) A
14:Adelaide (AAMI) A
15:Richmond (ES) H
16:Hawthron (MCG) H
17:Fremantle (SS) H
18:West Coast (PS) A
19:Gold Coast (SS) H
20:Adelaide (SS) H
21:Melbourne (MCG) A
22:Collingwood (MCG) H

Re: 2012 Draw

Would be a shame if we can't unfurl our flag in Round 1 at Kardinia Park. Don't care who it is against or when, just want a Skilled home game first up.

Re: 2012 Draw

Id love to see us play St Kilda at SS as a home game :D

I love the Friday nigth blockbusters at the MCG although i know its hard for people living in Geelong

Re: 2012 Draw

Being utterly selfish & far removed from the Holy Town, I'd like away games against both Sydney & GWS.

But of course, I'd most want our last game to be a win at home (in the MCG) in the last game of the year!

10:Gold Coast (MS) A
11:Brisbane (SS) H
12:N Melbourne (ES) A
13:Collingwood (MCG) A
14:Adelaide (AAMI) A
15:Richmond (ES) H
16:Hawthron (MCG) H
17:Fremantle (SS) H
18:West Coast (PS) A
19:Gold Coast (SS) H
20:Adelaide (SS) H
21:Melbourne (MCG) A
22:Collingwood (MCG) H

An adequate fixture but honestly wouldn't be overly happy with this if it were ours. Why do we play St. Kilda at the MCG (would draw 30-40k), but both of Carlton and Essendon (would draw 60-70k at the MCG) at Etihad? Also don't really like us playing at that dungheap ANZ Stadium (From next year onwards the Swans are no longer playing home games there anyhow) and the Pies on the eve of the finals again either. It's a bit of fun anyway, did a Geelong one myself because I was bored:

R1- Geel v GC, SS (Sat E) H
R2- Geel v Coll, MCG (Fri N) H
R3- WCE v Geel, PS (Sun T) A
R4- Melb v Geel, MCG (Sun) A
R5- Haw v Geel, MCG (Sat N) A
R6- Geel v Syd, SS (Sat E) H
R7- Adel v Geel, AS (Sat T) A
R8- Geel v Ess, ES (Fri N) H
R9- Carl v Geel, MCG (Fri N) A
R10- Geel v WB, SS (Sat) H
R11- Rich v Geel, MCG (Fri N) A
R12- BL v Geel, G (Sat N) A
R13- NM v Geel, ES (Sat N) A
R14- Geel v Frem, SS (Sat E) H
R15- Geel v Haw, MCG (Sat) H
R16- Geel v Port, SS (Sat E) H
R17- GC v Geel, MS (Sat N) A
R18- Coll v Geel, MCG (Fri N) A
R19- Geel v St.K, SS (Sat) H
R20- Geel v Carl, MCG (Sat) H
R21- GWS v Geel, SH (Sun E) A
R22- Geel v Adel, SS (Sat E) H

Re: 2012 Draw

Opening game shouldn't be a blockbuster. We need the season to be a few weeks in before we play our massive MCG games (maybe with the exception of Hawks). The past 2 years against Essendon and St. Kilda werre fizzers.

Would prefer to play North or Dogs at Etihad or an interstate side at Skilled.

Re: 2012 Draw

What are the odds we'll play another home game 'mockbuster' at Etihad instead of our eighth game at Simonds, as the AFL try to meet minimum games at Ethad whilst Etihad-tenants sell their games to Darwin, Hobart and Timbuktu .

But how will Gazza get out of the KP game this time?

Will he pick up another one week "injury"?

Re: 2012 Draw

Haven't seen any announcements on the Collingwood website so looks like Eddie hasn't finalised the fixture yet.

Lol.. that is probably closer to the truth than you actually think.

I just want lots of home/away games in Melbourne and Geelong to start off the season. Wanna go to as many matches as I can before I go on June 1. :thumbsu:

Re: 2012 Draw

Draw will once again have a massive impact in 2012 . 18 Teams means we will play the other 17 clubs once and only 5 teams twice ( assuming 22 games are played). Imagine if we play GWS , GC , PA , Tigers and Dees twice? Who you play twice will have a huge bearing on how and where you finish.

Just won't happen. We will probably get GC twice (the Junior factor), and maybe one of the Tigers or Dees.

Not even a vague possibility that we'll be gifted two games against GWS or Port next year.

Re: 2012 Draw

AFL has said that no team will play both GC and GWS twice because for an upper echelon team it's bascially 16 premiership points in the bag.

Anyone thinking the Cats v Suns twice is a lock for next year will have another thing coming.
Yes i understand the AFL's main priority is maximizing revenue but i think i heard somewhere that if you played them twice this year you wont the next. Unless i'm getting that confused with the above post ^

Which brings me to my next point. A wise old man once said with 18 teams now in the competition what's wrong with having divisions where everyone plays each other once and then you play the other teams in your division twice. (div 1 = teams 1-6 in 2011, div 2 = 7-12, div 3 = 13-18)
All equats to 22 h&a games, and im sure the AFL could work out each team getting 11 home and 11 away. Travel factor is an issue yes but it would ensure the best games and the most competitive season and most importantly for the AFL the least amount of embarrassing blowouts

Under that the Cats would have
2 v Pies at the MCG
2 v Hawks at the MCG
1 subi and 1 Symonds v Eagles
2 v Blues at the MCG
1 SCG and 1 Symonds v Swans
(i take top 6 post finals, not pre hence not Saints)

Re: 2012 Draw

If we are super lucky, we might sneak 2 games with GWS - only from the perspective of seeing the GWS poachers play against the best team in the league. TV, crowds and all that.

But I'd say we will probably play the GC 2x and GWS once and Collingwood will play GWS 2x and Goldcoast once.

The AFL will have to balance crowd and interest maximisation VS giving points away. Could have a big say on how the ladder ends up. Who knows Richmond might finish a game clear in 9th this year instead of on percentage.

Re: 2012 Draw

I didn't realize the Swans broke their relationship with ANZ stadium???? i thought it was a lock

that will affect Geelong's schedule next year as being reigning premiers they'd probably be considered a big draw and be sent back there. Much prefer the SCG as most people do.
BTW the Cats have had an away game against the Swans every year since 1999. Bit of useless trivia

When does it come out?

October 28

should be out later this month.

I heard Rich/Carl isn't a lock for season opener next year

Gillon McLachlan confirmed this yesterday;

RICHMOND and Carlton are set to again meet at the MCG on a Thursday night in round one next year, although it is unlikely to be the first home and away game of the 2012 season.

Instead, the opening match is expected to be the inaugural Sydney derby between the Swans and GWS at ANZ Stadium, which could be played a week prior to the other round one games.

I doubt the AFL will fixture GWS or the Gold Coast at Skilled after what we did to the Gold Coast this year. (No chance GWS will be coming to Skilled anyway)

My Guess,

7 Home games at Kardina Park (Port Adelaide, Sydney, Fremantle, West Coast, Melbourne, Bulldogs, Kangaroos)
3 Home games at the MCG (Collingwood, Hawthorn and Carlton)
1 Home game at Etihad (Essendon)
5 Interstate Games (Gold Coast, GWS, West Coast, Adelaide and Brisbane)
6 Away games in Melbourne (Collingwood, Carlton, Hawthorn, St.Kilda, Essendon, Richmond)

Would love to see a big club play at Kardina Park next year, but I dont think we will see this until our first game at Skilled in 2013 (Night game)

that sounds about right although we'd likely travel to Adelaide to play the Power i'd have thought do to the fact we have played them at home only in the past three seasons. Something tells me we'll be travelling 6 times though and Collingwood will, surprise surprise:rolleyes:, only travel four times
