My attempt. Partially judging from my expectations, injuries, etc etc.

2. 5/10. Impressed almost every outing, but broke down again. Decision won't be made on form.
3. 4/10. Looked OK, but not great. Again, decision based on his body & whether they think he can improve.
4. 11/10. Uberstar.
5. 6/10. Did his job & did it well, most of the time.
6. 3/10. Tailed off. Badly. Need leadership from our 6+ year players - does not provide.
7. 3.5/10. Tailed off. Badly. Need leadership from our 6+ year players - does not provide.
8 N/A. Decision won't be made on basis of form - they know he can play, but he is 27/28 odd.
9 N/A. Decision won't be made on basis of form. Jury out on ability too.
10. N/A. Sad end, good clubman.
11. 5/10. Decent start. Not much after that. Very very important to the side going forward.
12. 5/10. Decent start. Not much after that. Very very important to the side going forward.
13. Is this Long? Exactly! Who'd know. TTFN.
14. 4/10. Did his job at times, shown up quite a bit when asked to do other roles. Again, is that good enough from a 6+ year player? Will be shopped, you'd think.
15. 6/10. Great start, down patch, good finish. Very important.
16. 3/10. Forgettable
17. 4/10. Mixed fortunes - decent-to-good early, very poor in the second half of the year. Played a bit of footy down back & up forward, which gives him an extra string to his bow.
18. 5.5/10. Clearly a leader. Cracks in. All class. Huge unit. Can't love him enough, but a slightly disappointing year none-the-less.
19. 4/10. Old warhorse, outrun by young bucks a few times, but still played some good footy at times as well, and had a few injuries into the bargain.
20. N/A. TTFN. Hope he is retained for the reserves.
21. 7/10. Good early off a back flank, struggled when put into the middle, then came through it pretty strongly in the last 3-4 rounds. Love.
22. 8/10. Played more than I thought, at a better level than I thought. Very promising.
23. 6/10. Could easily have been 8 if he'd stayed fit. Leading light in the midfield when he got in there.
24. 7/10. Did nothing wrong when brought in.
25. N/A.
26. 5/10. Good early. Bad late. Not a young skinny kid any more. Why is this? Is his body not right, is it in his head?
27. N/A.
28. N/A.
29. 6/10. Did his job most of the year.
30. 5/10. Absolute silk.... for half a year. Would've been pushing an 8 or 9.
31. 7/10. Too good. Still.
32. 4/10. Bit disappointing, young Trav. Second guessing himself maybe? Didn't look as confident to take it on, or ping at the biggest, hardest-to-miss target on the ground - and if he's not doing that, he's not much use.
33. N/A
34. 5/10. See Hooker, C: Good early. Bad late. Not a young skinny kid any more. Why is this? Is his body not right, is it in his head?
35. 4/10. Good glimpses. Great size. Seems to know what he's doing, and isn't shy despite only playing in trying conditions.
36. N/A
37. 1/10 - the 1 being for his Bulldogs game. TTFN.
38. N/A
39. 3/10. The biggest disappointment of the year, for mine. You'd expect a seasoned, strong, hard-working midfielder to improve as the season wore on. You'd expect him to win more ball as more opportunities opened up through injury. You'd expect a lot more than he delivered.
40. 8/10. Made every post a winner.
41. 5/10. About what I expected TBH - can win a bit of it, not overly damaging. Gives the list management team an option, if they're moving on others.
42. 6/10. Has a crack, most of the time.
43. 6/10. Some good footy in there, some not so much. Assumed the mantle of our best small back - disappointing to have him miss so many games.
44. 8/10. Highlight.
45. N/A.
46. 5/10. About what I expected, not going to immediately make us a 10 goal better side, but a viable option.
47. 5/10. Viable.

I guess the standout is how many of our established guys disappointed.

Point taken re Hocking... but I didn’t think his year was that bad.

Dyson a tough one. Not saying he wasn’t better this year than he has been... just not sure if or where he fits going forward. Sorta have to judge exactly where he’s at, not purely the fact that he had a career-best season in 2012 (which still wasn’t brilliant imo... he just improved).

Coming from the viewpoint that I expected Hocking to re-capture good form - and I didn't expect Dyson to do much.

Well done to all that had a crack at this.

My brief summary: We have too many players that are only consistently good players when the team is winning... eg Monfries, Jetta, Dyson, Davey.. But to be honest, it is hard to rate some of the players accurately, because in fairness, the pre-season absolutely r**ted many of them.

The rumours of the toughest pre-season of all time are not untrue.

agree hocking wasnt that bad. As a team we stunk. However i thin hocking was doing what hte coaches asked of him coz when he was out Jobes numbers went down. He is a big blocking unit that can hopefully drop 2-3kgs and get back to his best and still help out Jobe. At least he is prepared to lay a shephard unlike 95% of the team

I won't do a review of everyone but in the last round, even though they were either spent or underdone, I felt much better just seeing a midfield with Watson, Zaharakis, Stanton, Howlett, Myers all playing. It reminded me that we do have quality which, whilst blatantly obvious, was lost on me amidst the latter third of 2012.

The latter two so, so, so important just for their scrapping & competitiveness.
Missed that for so long.

Davey is interesting, he is not in my long term view and has issues but a return of 29 goals for a small forward is pretty good and gives some weight to him staying around for another year.

Until his suspension he was playing super footy, never quite regained the form afterwards. He definitely warrants another season I reckon, hopefully playing 14+ games so his boys qualify for father/son. I don't want him nursed to the 100 games though, he gets there on form or not at all. I've decided I am bullish about 2013 and I don't want to carry anyone.

Thanks for the write-up.

At first, I heartily disagree with delisting Davey and NLM, and trading Bellchambers. I love the first two (despite their flaws) and have been more than satisfied with their output in 2012. However, moving them on could give another 20-40 games to two other players who can assist us in getting to a flag.

I was disappointed when Jenkins was moved on. If TBC was traded, I would be quite distraught. But we haven't seen the best of Ryder and TBC together, and it may be that they are mutually exclusive players. I would hope that all avenues have been exhausted (and many tapes of WC watched) to attempt to get these two guys to function together.

Most of your comments are reasonable, and it is true that some tough (and obvious?) decisions need to be made now - Lonergan, Reimers.

i always think back to the years Hird really bulked up.. it did him no good whatsoever. Everybody saw pre-season pics and nearly creamed their pants at how good he would be...

its not all about bulk!

Pics or GTFO!

If i were to score our players points out of 10 Id rank them as follows;-

Jobe Watson – 9/10 – great year – if only he had more help!
Tom Bellchambers – 8/10 had his breakout year and proved he can be damaging up forward
Jake Carlisle – 8/10 – had a great year and is now a key defender who has passed the likes of Pears and Hooker
Dustin Fletcher – 8/10 – one of the more consistant performers for 2012
Michael Hurley – 7.5/10 – classy forward sometimes backman super important to the Bombers fortunes over the next 4 – 5 years
Courtenay Dempsey – 7.5/10 – classy and an important link man who had a good year
Stuart Crameri – 7.5/10 – leading goal kicker who had injury problems later in the year
Brent Stanton – 7.5/10 – white hot early season like many slowed down in second half
Kyle Hardingham – 7/10 – under rated defender who had a good year
Michael Hibberd – 7/10 – tough defender who provides good run from the back half
Patrick Ryder – 7/10 – good early then injured - like so many others…
Dyson Heppell – 7/10 – classy defender trying to find his feet in mid field
Alwyn Davey – 7/10 – our best small forward
Ben Howlett – 7/10 – consistant B grade mid fielder – can he become A greade?
David Zaharakis – 6.5/10 – injury interrupted year but still classy and important
Leroy Jetta – 6.5/10 – did his job as a small to medium forward averaging a goal a game. Needs to focus on playing footy rather than acting
Angus Monfries – 6.5/10 – did his job as a small to medium forward averaging a goal a game
Nathan Lovett-Murray - 6/10 performed admirably as a SUB and did what was asked of him
Nicholas O’Brien – 6/10 – moves well and has good goal sense – will see more of him in 2013
Rick Dyson – 6/10 – some great performances early doors but little impact in second half of season
Alex Browne - 6/10 – performed well and looks to have a bright future
David Myers – 6/10 – started to show why he’s highly rated but needs to be able to string more games together
Cale Hooker - 6/10 Had some poor games but often asked to do big jobs on the oppositions best forwards with little assistance
Elliot Kavanagh – 6/10 – looked good when he played. Bright future
Heath Hocking – 5.5/10 – poor year by his standards – needs to improve in 2013
Mark Baguley -5.5/10 – tried hard in his 7 games and may develop into a decent back pocket type
Corey Dell’Olio – 5/10 – goal sneak who needs to find more of the ball
David Hille – 5/10 – only managed 9 games and is now a back-up/depth ruckman only
Sam Lonergan – 5/10 – some decent games but not consistant enough
Scott Gumbleton – 5/10 – managed 6 games which is a positive but still a lot to learn
Jake Melksham – 5/10 – played every game but hasn’t come on as well as expected
Tayte Pears – 4/10 – similar to melksham in that he hasn’t really come on, and could only manage 10 games
Brendan Lee – 3/10 – found the footy OK in the games he played – provides depth
Jackson Merrett – 3/10 – to early to call – did some nice things in his debut
Travis Colyer – 3/10 – small man who was apparently flying pre-season but had very little impact during 2012
Jason Winderlich – 2/10 – 2 points for 2 games – classy but body struggling and 29 next year
Kyle Reimers – 2/10 – only 5 games in 2012 and seems to be on the outer
Mark McVeigh 2/10 – 3 games, body didn’t hold up had to retire
Henry Slattery - 1/10 - finished

Shit, Jobe 9/10? What more do you think he could have done, or what did his season lack?

Lonergan is highly rated by plenty at the club. It will be interesting to see what happens with him.

Will be interesting if we are keen for Jesse Lonergan.
Wouldn't be outstanding for his morale to go to the club that just delisted his uncle.

Strangely lax discpline in the first few weeks or so. Gave away a few 50s.

Now that you mention it, I do recall a bit of early frustration.

Checking stats, gave away 1-1-2-0-0-2-1-0-2-0-0-0-0-0-1-1-2-0-0-3-2-0 this season.
Won frees in those games..1-6-2-0-0-0-2-4-2-0-3-1-0-3-1-1-2-2-3-6-1-1.

50's conceded are not included there, but I'm not convinced that it's enough to drag him down to an overall season 90% performance rating.

I'd give him a 9.5.

So there.
