2012 Post Season - Retirements and delistings (list changes) thread

Phillips is the only 100% definite out IMO. There are about 10 other borderline players who the new coach will have to decide on. First impressions will be key.

Also sent d.stewart for surgery....(missed what kind of surgery)

Heart transplant I'm guessing.

Contract extensions for all!
Damn it. I want a miniature American flag or I'm voting for Kodos.

As for delistings, who ever we get rid of, it'd be nice to cut the obvious dead wood early for a change (Logan, Phillips etc.) instead of the club thinking they can fool someone at trade week and convince them the shit just served up on a plate is chocolate.

We're getting a new coach, Duncanson is gone, Falloon is surely gone. Now's the time to keep showing the supporters the crap of the last 7 years won't be going on any more and cut early and cut often. It'd be nice to think they threw out the playstation AFL games from the coaches and match committee rooms, so these 4 duds for a first round pick dreams leaving our list clogged longer then it should be bullshit is done and dusted. Instead we can trim early, so for a change we can be the club hunting around other clubs uncontracted players.

I hope no one is delisted untill as late as possible. I'm sure the 8 weeks off are not mandatory, those that want to be AFL players can start with two a day weight sessions at Allan Scott HQ as early as yesterday! Best way to impress the new coach!

Two a day would be detrimental.

Ild hold onto Hitchcock before I hold on to Rodan.

D.Stewart
Logan
Thomas
Cassisi
Rodan
Salopek
Phillips
Brett Ebert

Would be on my hitlist before Hitchcock, Banner, Salter, Newton...

Can we keep Pfeiffer and Jonas on as Rookies? If not I am weary of retaining Pfeiffer.

If Surjan stays and Pfeiffer can't stay on the rookie list I wouldn't up grade, Surjan leaves upgrade Jonas, Pfeiffer stays as a rookie.

This is bullshit, upper body at 0600, eat, recover, enjoy the day, legs/core at 2030.

Yes two a days on the same areas is not ideal to bulk up, but with 8 hours rest and a good Protein and high Iron diet, two muscle groups a day doesn't hinder a thing.

Hitchcock should be kept for at least another year, Rodan shouldn't even be mentioned in this, I also think he is a sign/barometer of how bad the senior coach is.

The only way they'll move on players like Thomas and Logan is if they can get like-for-like swaps in the FA period (or trade in Thomas' case) with better skills.

Assuming we lose and gain the same number of players by free agency, it means that between normal trades/draft picks/rookie elevations (Jonas)/PSD pick, we can probably expect to have no more than 7 new players on our senior list, and that would even be pushing it.

Phillips, Salter, Salopek would seem the three most definite to go, while if the old footy dept regime is responsible, you could probably also throw in Banner and perhaps (head-shake) Surjan as likely player departues.

It then comes down to whether a new coach wants to try his chances on getting the most out of Daniel Stewart and Hitchcock or whether he sees the light and draws a line through players with low ceiling and no scope for improvement (Logan, Thomas). I think Rodan will be kept because he still has the capacity to impact matches, even if in the sub role.

I'm most concerned that we'll make the wrong calls on Banner and Surjan, or a premature decision on Newton. I'll only accept picking up players like Monfries and Russell in the FA period, if they are direct replacements for Thomas and Logan respectively.

Yes, why Banner! He is not completely shot due to injury (Salopek's shoulders) he hasn't been given an extended go (Thomas, Logan, Rodan, D.Stewart) and his age bracket fits our peaking timing (unlike Ebert and Cassisi)

Should be retained, along with Hitchcock (Hitchcock has shown as much as Pittard at SANFL level including a few multiple BIG bags of goals (also soft tissue injuries are not joints or hips))

We already have them. Aaron Young and Tom Jonas are like-for-like swaps with better skills.

I don't se how anyone could say Rodan, surely we can hold on to him for next to nothing. I agree with the Banner comments though, he's still young! Has been given next to no chances, give him at least one more year. Then there's Hitchcock, I can't remember him playing a good game besides the trail match against the Crows in his first season. He's had more than enough chances and he hasn't put on a Kg of muscle either. We have enough skinny projects who are younger.

Yes but it's pointless seeing as you need 48-72 hours rest on each muscle group before working it out again. If you were doing 2 muscle groups a day, you'd run out of body parts to work out after 3-4 days. Only roid boys have the capability to sustain 2 workouts a day because their recovery is so immense.

I don't think salopek will be going anywhere either. He is one of those players that a new coach will want to keep and try and get more out of.

There's no way we're getting rid of Pfeiffer. And don't forget as much as we want to get rid of a whole heap of players, these things take some time. We can't just dump a whole list and replace them with 3rd/4th round draft picks as if we get a heavy injury list going in to the season we'll be forced to play a whole lot of kids that are 1-2 years away from AFL standard.
I can't see us getting rid of Rodan for this reason. There are several other players who give less than him, and at the very least Rodan can fill in the odd game for us as super sub. I'd be surprised if we didn't at least try to trade off Sal and DStew. Salopek may be getting a bit older and hasn't played a game all year but may have shown enough in the past for a club to show some interest as a depth player. Additionally there will be clubs looking to bolster height that may take a punt on getting something out of DStew.
