I am back with the 3rd part of my 2012 analysis of each team´s list. In this post I will be analysing the Age of each team. Note that this analysis takes in to account all the list including the rookies and ages are as at February 2012. The stats were provided by footywire. You can go to my blog if you want to see the full size charts. I hope you enjoy it!

Pretty interesting to see West Coast as one of the oldest clubs... especially when you consider how young most of their players are/seem.

So we're the 4th oldest forward group, averaging 23 years, but our oldest forward is Moore at 26 years, and he doesn't generally get a senior game.

I wonder about the age of our best 22, because there's a lot of excitement around our youth and there's a fair bit of experience not getting automatic selection. I'm thinking particularly of Pyke (28), Seaby (28), Moore (26), and LRT (28). You've also got Morton (25) and Spangher (25) who might become regulars, but haven't yet.

List analysis is pointless. Almost all clubs have a back end of their list that is full of 18 year olds, putting every club squarely around the same age.

What matters is the age and experience of the best 22 available each week.

Presenting data in colourful graphs is not usually considered an "analysis".

An analysis requires critical thinking into what the stats represent, this is data collection.

Can I ask, what is the purpose of your work?

I guess its more of a list analysis rather than a team analysis. But I do think you need more information to make this useful, such as how many actual players you have in each position and maybe some more detail such as KPP and the like.

It is interesting to see that even with 3 of the top 10 oldest players GWS still have by far the youngest list and by quite a long way.

Interesting that the Bulldogs are one of the oldest teams, yet on every line they are amongst the youngest with the exception of the backline.

Would be interesting to see an "analysis" of the starting 22 from say, last round.

Agree, but I do like this type of data collection regardless. Although I would prefer to see the games experience over age, as I believe that is more pertinent.

Not that it really matters, but you've listed McPhee as our oldest forward when he plays in defence every week.

Anyhoo, 4th youngest midfield **** yeah!!!!1 :D:D:D

And that's with Pav classed as a midfielder too.

Imagine how awesomely young and dynasty-ish our mids would suddenly become if we reclassify him as a forward.
