2012 Team Analysis: HEIGHT

I am back with the 2nd part of my 2012 analysis of each team´s list. In this post I will be analysing the Height of each team. Note that this analysis takes in to account all the list including the rookies. The stats were taken from footywire. You can find the full post with larger pictures in my blog.

A few people wanted to see this analysis being done only with each team´s strongest line-up. I will intent to do this after round 1 is completed once I get a feel of each team´s best line up.

Celger would be our tallest forward at 204 cm

Probably going by the Prospectus. Champion Data lists Keeffe as a forward and Ceglar as a ruckman.

Boomer Harvey and Rodan are 172 cm's they were the shortest but that may have change in the last year or so.

Not many...

We have the following players who can play Ruck:

Sam Jacobs 1st ruck
Kurt Tippett - Forward / Ruckman
Josh Jenkins - Ruck / KPP
Shaun McKernan - Ruck / KPP
*Rookie* Benjamin Dowdell - Ruck

Very thin on quality ruckman down at Adelaide.

I think our very own Lewis Broome was the shortest in 2011 at 167cm, but in 2012 Neates is the leader.

Prospectus (love that resource) mentions Neates as being the second shortest in 2011.

Frank Amos /Rookie) from the Hawks is at 169cm as well!

Shaun Atley and Liam Anthony are both our tallest mids at 189cm.

Cameron Richardson is not a midfielder.

And anyway, the 2 listed above are the same height as Richo.

Why is adelaide so short? It seems strange given Neil Craig's obsession with drafting 6'2" midfielders, who aren't quite midfielders and not quite KPP players.

I bet it's Callinan and McIntyre dragging down the entire average, similar to the way Sandilands is messing with Freo's stats.

Adelaide have 8 players under 180cms along with Port and the Saints but Hawthorn have the most with 10.

Pavlich won't be playing midfield this year and therefore I don't think we're the tallest midfield, although I'd have Fyfe as a mid and he's probably taller than Pavlich now, and Barlow/Mundy/Lower/Morabito/De boer are all quite tall, so maybe it's right. Meh.

Heh boomers not even the shortest on our team. He clears Matty Campbell by an inch.

Gee, after Rendell seemingly became obsessed with tall players in the 08 and 09 drafts I assumed we'd be one of the tallest, not clearly the shortest!

We lost Davis, Gunston and Maricto trades last year but brought in Lynch, Johnston and Jenkins, a slight drop but not much.

Ballantyne (174cm) and Neale (177cm) will play midfield this year and drag the average down slightly.

Pavlich (192cm) and McPhee (190cm) probably won't play midfield this season, which will also drag the average down.

Mundy, Fyfe, Barlow, Crowley, Lower, Morabito and Pitt are all +189cm.

Hill (184cm), De Boer (187cm) Broughton (185cm) and Mzungu (183cm) are the shortest of the regular midfielders from last season.

You've got Jimmi Savage as the tallest Giant Midfielder, just a slight problem, he never made the cut, not on the list, not even as a rookie, some recalculation needed perhaps.

Matty Cambell's listed far taller than he is. I would thing less than 170

Didn't think Essendon were so short we always seem relatively tallish with Ryder/Hurley/Hille and potentially Gumby Roaming the FWD.

Jacobs - 203cm
Tippett - 202cm
Jenkins - 197cm

Those are the only ruckmen on our senior list. If the graph also takes rookies, then we have Dowdell 200cm and Craig 195cm.

Also, a lot of the "tall utilities" people think we've drafted aren't quite as tall as they think they are, while over half of our list is under 188cm/6ft in height - not to mention the 6 players under 180, including the diminutive Callinan at 171cm

The drop in our height can also be seen in our changes for this season
