I've put my coaching hat on.

This is What the side could've looked like without injury next year, using our current list: not bad. Note fitzy in back line- we have a lot of KPF and considering that he's shown talent, has pace, competitiveness, good mark I'd give him a chance down back before I left him out. Also KPF are getting taller and with Fitzy being 200cm could be a wildcard.

B: Garland, Fitzpatrick, Trengove
HB: Grimes, McDonald, Frawley
C: Toumpas, Viney, Watts
HF: Hogan, Clark, Howe
F: Kent, Dawes, Blease
Foll: Jamar, Sylvia, N Jones

Int: Mckenzie, Evans, Tapscott
Sub: Barry

ROOS TEAM:

B: Frawley, Garland, ?
HB: Grimes, McDonald, ?
C: Blease, N Jones, Watts
HF: Sylvia, Dawes, Hogan
F: Clark, Howe, ?
Foll: Jamar, Trengove, Viney
Int: Fitzpatrick, ?, ?, ?

My 2014 team:

There is a rumour getting around that we won't get pick 1 PP but will get picks 2 & 3.

We need leadership, mids & quality disposers. Roos has said he'd like to trade for two experienced mids with early picks.

Pick 2: David Swallow- is contracted but wants to come closer to his brother in vic. Club has spoken to him. Skilful mid & leader.

Pick 3: Scott Selwood-is contracted but wants to be closer to his brother in vic. Club has spoken to him & WCE won't give him up easily.

Pick 19: Luke Dunstan

Free agent: Daniel Cross

PSD: Taylor Adams(won't happen)

Naturally a player or two may have to give way but here is my 2014 team after the draft period:

B: Garland, Frawley, D Cross*
HB: Grimes, McDonald, Watts
C: Viney, D Swallow*, Trengove
HF: Hogan*, Clark, Howe
F: Sylvia, Dawes, Toumpas
Foll: Jamar, S Selwood*, N Jones

Int: Mckenzie, Tapscott, Kent, Dunstan*, T Adams* Blease

This leaves these players to run through the midfield:

S Selwood*
D Swallow*
N Jones
J Viney
J Toumpas
J Trengove
L Dunstan*
T Adams*
S Blease
J Mckenzie
D Cross*
J Grimes
C Sylvia

Not much change and a bit of smart recruiting it could easily look very promising for 2014.

Hope you enjoy.
I thought he said that if they (meaning us) got a priority pick he would look to trade one of the top picks for a proven mid.

If we do get picks 2 + 3 I would suggest trading pick 3 to GC for Swallow or to WC for Selwood and keep our pick to for Aish or Sheed.

Work out a deal to get Adams and then use our later picks on a small forward.

Gives us a ready made mid Swallow/Selwood and another mid with a few years under his belt in Adams along with a young kid that Roos can turn into a star.

This trade period will be very interesting.

Definitely wouldn't be adverse to trading both (on the presumption we get a PP), still don't want to pay overs

IF it were to be Selwood for 2 (God, that still seems like such overs to me!) I'd want Selwood + steak knives

I personally would like to see us keep one pick, thats if we do get a PP.

Gives our new coaching staff 3 really good young mids with the inclusion of Toumpas and Viney to work with and develop over the next few years.

What if (and massive hypothetical here) - we can trade both and get Selwood and Swallow?

For mine, it would need a 3rd player. 2&3 for selwood swallow and Adams? Then your talking. Dunstan with 20 (or whatever it will be).

I get the point we need ready made players with experience more than kids with potential, but Selwood for 2 is MASSIVE overs IMO and we'd need something else coming to us

Personally, I'm over draft picks. Trade them! But having said that I want quality.

I'd be happy to do pick 2 for Scooter Selwood and Eagles second round pick (pick 25ish). Trade that pic to Carlton for Yarran (we may have to give steak knives).

Trade pic 3 (providing we get it) to GWS for Taylor Adams and GWS compo Pick (pick 11?), given we probably wont get him in the PSD.

Trade pic 11 and Jack Watts to Gold Coast for David Swallow.

Use pick 19 on best available mid.

Pick up Mav Weller as a Delisted Free Agent.

Use our third round pick on Garlett.

We lose picks 2, 3, and Jack Watts - We gain Selwood (Grunt), Yarran (Class), David Swallow (Potential Star), Taylor Adams (Versatile/Potential Star), and Mav Weller (possibly a very good player, worth the punt in my opinion).

I'd give up our first pick for David Swallow in a heart beat, former number 1 pick with 50 games under his belt, yes please. It would put our development (or lack there of from his age bracket) slightly back on track as well.

We would probably have to get more out of that that. Some of the other suggestions here are good.

I agree not sold on Selwood being worth pick 2.

If we had the choice of Selwood or Swallow who would you guys go for?

Scott Selwood's the proven player - it's pick #2, so Selwood.

Now, I'd like a young fringe player or 2nd round pick back with that - but if I had to I'd give up #2 on it's own.

Ahh but having 3 picks inside the top 25 means we will be able to better package a deal for a potential gun

No question, but we'd rather #1 than #20, surely? Why weaken your stance by throwing in the 'better for everyone but us' plan B that the AFL would happily plump for if they decide to give us a pick?

Very happy with this although if the gods saw fit to grant us p2 and 3, I'd ditch swallow for aish. Not sold on swallow and all reports (as I interpret them) suggest aish will have a higher ceiling. If we only get p2 I'd still go with Selwood based on the bird in the hand theory, at some point we need to say were done recruiting 18yr olds and get some seniority and leadership back on the list. Swap later picks, players or whatevs because I agree p2 is over a, but not by as much as people think.

1. Wish I hadn't quoted that massive post. Think I need to do a computer course (pretty pathetic for a 30yo)
2. 90% the same as every subsequent post. Should read on prior to reply.

Problem is, 85% of the 18 year olds we've recruited over the last 5 years havnt turned out.

We have a few good young players coming through, but if we don't draft kids this year, we will be no-where near several other sides when it comes to youth.

Pick #1/2 and steak knives to WCE for Selwood and Shuey (seeing as he wants to come back to Vic?

No way are we getting selwood and shuey
I know, but if we did it would be great. A midfielder who is 13th in the AFL for clearances, and a small forward who could fit right in, in our forward line.

I would like to see us pick up Zaharakis in the off-season though.

Roos: yeah sure I'd love to get a pp. who's got that? Have you got one? Ill take one.

Gold.

I think a pp is in the bag after hearing pj speak about it today :)

He certainly sounded like he will make the strongest possible case for it to the Commission. However I still think it's an issue that we have given them an out by offering the option of an end of first round pick.

It's funny because I mentioned the exact same thing in the PP thread in the draft & trading board months ago & I was howled down!

Are you sure you weren't Howe'd down? It's an easy mistake to make.

I thought he would've been Gawn by now

We've Dunn this to death. Bring on the delistings and puntential new draftees.
