History likes to be kind and we oft remember the draft successes. What about the complete failures?

I was more talking about the trend of highly regarded players suddenly appearing under an injury cloud as the draft approaches.

Seriously, he has stress injuries in his feet from kicking arse all year. Gun player. I'd take him even if he was out for all of next year.

Had a look at the vid just to see what the fuss is all about. Couldn't pass him up if he is still available could we? Nothing short of amputation would deter me.

Most composed player I've seen come through the draft since Cotchin.

No need to draft more Forwards/Rucks. We need depth in these positions below. Players I believe we may draft from (highlighted who I would prefer the Lions draft if available).

Small/Medium Defenders:
M.Scharenberg, K.Kolodjashnij, Z.Jones, J.Impey, J.Battersby, T.Langdon, I.Miller, E.Wasley-Black, J.Waldhuter

Small/Medium Forwards:
D.Wilson, J.Kennedy-Harris, Z.Webster, B.Johnson, L.Herbert, C.Cameron

Small/Medium Midfielders:
D.Sheed, B.Acres, L.Dunstan, T.Dumont, M.Crouch, G.Hewett, Z.Merrett, J.Tsitas, E.Templeton, M.Karpany, M.Honeychurch, N.Robertson, B.Grey, N.Bourke

Tall Defenders:
C.Giles, D.Gardiner, F.Fort, J.Kolodjashnij, T.Vandeleur, D.McStay, J.Leslie

Rumors about us being into McCarthy are certainly drying up, seems like Aish or Scharenberg everywhere you look now.

Seems to have coincided with Bontempelli's rise up to pick 4, which makes sense considering we probably didn't expect Aish or Scharenberg to fall.

Do we really need that many outside players though?

Maybe one but the rest of our midfielder draftees I'd prefer to be of the Dunstan/Crouch variety. We have Hanley, Mayes, Golby and Rich's left boot. That's a fair bit of outside run.

If true, it's difficult to see him deserving a chance.

Part of me wants to see us use our last pick on him because of the potentially high return but it just keeps getting worse the more you read about him. Just can't see him being anything other than bust at this rate. Talent's useless if you're not showing up, ala Rhan Hooper. If he didn't even show for an interview for the team apparently most likely to draft him and probably best placed to get the most out of him, why the hell would any other team risk it?

Agreed. I've got Hanley and Mayes as our two main outside players. Rich can do some good work on the inside, but I'd consider swapping him and Hanley around just to add some explosiveness to that inside group. Hanley's inside work against Melbourne in the wet looked good.

If true that will certainly hurt Garlett's chances. Unless he had a decent reason. I'd still take a punt on him as a rookie at minimum. He'd be comfortably top 10 in this draft based on talent.

If he doesn't get picked, let him wait another year and he can try out on the Fox 8 TV show with Vossy mentoring him. :p

I wouldn't mind taking another ruck/forward. Martin and West are 27/26, outside of that only Freeman is actual ruck height. Although i'd be happy for Smith to be that player in the rookie draft. We have a good 3-4 years to develop one.

Agreed. What we don't need is anymore Lisle and Paine types. I'd only be up for taking a punt on one tall forward in Conlon with one of our last picks due to his talent. But I'd much rather wait until next years draft and take one with a first rounder.
