For those wanting a safe pick, my two cents is Josh Kelly. Whether he ends up as the best is debateable but I reckon there's a very low chance he'll be a bust.
Agree but there is no way he will be around at our pick. Saints will take him if GWS dont

Thanks.

Who would the SA clubs be trying to worry? Fans? Because the clubs actually interview they player and will know for themselves if he answered poorly/not ideally.

I do rate Aish but would be happy with Billings/Scharenburg as well.
It puts the clubs on edge and makes them doubt themselves - if certain other clubs asked a question that we didn't and started worrying, did we ask him the wrong questions? What did he actually say? While it won't create any massive changes in the recruiters' heads, just a little bit of doubt may cause them to favour a different option. If several recruiters in a row feel this way, he'll slide. It's not guaranteed to cause them to slide for the reasons you've said - but it definitely gives them a better chance of falling.

I think we'll take Kelly if he's available, he won't be though, if Billings gets taken before us, then it's a pick between KK, Scharenberg and Aish.

Any talented Photoshop people out there able to put our Doggies jumper/shorts on playing pictures of Billings / KK / Aish / Kelly / Sharenberg?? Just for fun - see who it suits the most ;)

If I was GWS the guy I would take at 2 is Dom Sheed, they need a hard nut that can win a contested possession, use it well and has leadership. I don't get how shipping a guy in Tyson whose probably your toughest and strongest young mid for another thin framed outside type helps anything.

If I were the Dogs, this is who I would have in my order of preference for pick 4.

1. Tom Boyd. Everyone is well aware of his talents and potential.
2. James Aish. Midfield super talent, brilliant ball user, with proven performances at SANFL level despite being under 18 years old. Apparently only likely to slip due to some average interview performances.
3. Matthew Scharenburg. Would set up our defence for the next 10 years (with Roughy and Talia beside him).
4. Josh Kelly. The last of the big 4, super runner and outside mid. More a 'cream' style player, but with our wealth of young inside mids, should be a great compliment.

All of those 4 have their pros and cons.

It's been discussed a bit earlier in the thread, but I don't look at Scharenberg and see defender......I see 190cm mid who can play back. I am less keen on him if he's not got the capacity to play mid. He will be gone before our pick I fear anyway.

They will take Scharenberg I reckon perhaps for that very reason.

Stop trying to apply logic to GWS' pick, you're talking about the team who desperately needed a young backup ruckman and passed on Grundy five times in order to take O'Rourke at 2, Plowman at 3, Jaksch at 12 and Corr at 14.

Logic has no place here.

I think the club would love the idea of Stringer and Scharenberg at both ends with the extra flexibility to play them as big bodied mids.

Shut up, no face.

I still don't know how they passed on Wingard six times too. It's not like he has come out of nowhere, he was called a top three pick all year before the draft. Same with Grundy.

And let's not forget they gave up Jed Anderson, pick 29 and pick 68 for Gilham, pick 28 and 65.

The chances of them not going with the Boyd and Kelly combo are about one in a million I reckon. SOS absolutely adores Kelly.

Lets hope this GWS lack of logic gets to the point where they pass on Boyd. Then St Kilda being the basket case they are, weren't paying attention and thought he was gone, so they go with their expected pick.

I can dream, but it's still a more realistic scenario than thinking Plowman will go at 3 at this stage last year.

Has he a proven track record of playing as a mid?
