If we lose Milne and Schneides to age and injury and Miler a wants to go home, then I'd seriously look at Leroy Jetta to help with our midfield spread. He's not a forward, he's a mid like his cousin.

Would be well worth going after.

Jetta and Nahas are who i like.. IMO Both would be big upgrade on Milera.

Straw poll: 20% chance at a young Reiwoldt or 60% chance at a young Hayes?
How do you come to those odds? How is the guy who is widely considered the best in the draft only a 20% chance to have a Riewoldt-like career, but someone who is closer to 3rd or 4th best a 60% chance to have a Hayes-like career?

Somewhat scientific ;) random stab in the dark. There have been a lot of great KPFs high in the draft that haven't panned out. Mids are generally a little safer in the boom/bust scenario. Roo is also pretty special and there have been only Brown, Tredders, Pav, Franklin in this era that are close. A lot of misses there. They are just rarer in my opinion.
Do you think that I should have put 60% chance of Roo and 20% chance of Hayes?

Say what?

So anyone who wins an auction loses, because they were prepared to pay more than the others for whatever they were bidding on, while anyone that sells something at an auction automatically wins, because someone was prepared to pay more than anyone else for whatever it was they were selling?

No offense, but that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read and I've read an awful lot of stuff on BF, so that's saying something.

I would have thought it would have come down to whether what you pay for something is what it is worth (to you in particular) that determines whether you "win" or "lose", not simply that you paid the most.

What I'm saying is that someone like Boyd is worth a lot, because of his talent and attributes and what he brings to the table and not a lot of clubs will have something that is worth as much as Boyd is that they will be prepared to trade and hence will not be in the running.

What I'm saying is you don't know if Boyd is worth as much as you think he is. You think Jack Watts wasn't the next big thing a few years back?

People can get good deals in Auctions. Those with success in real estate purchasing will tend to suggest that you choose your limit and stick to it and not get emotionally involved. Others "must have it" and throw away logic. Yeah its OK if you are happy with it, but people overcommit and cant sell their house too. I've picked up some amazing deals on Ebay, but I've also seen idiots bid more than the retail price.

The ability to pay over's doesn't make you a winner.
We landed Barry Brooks AND Fergus Watts, and I'm sure those involved felt like big wheels at the time.

Tom Boyd is not close to the best football talent in this year's draft in my view. Aish is running away with that (Billings chasing hard, Boyd a bit behind both) and his talent is through the roof.

PICK 2: Melbourne
James Aish, Norwood
182 cm 70kg
Comparison: Trent Cotchin
Norwood player James Aish is by far the best midfielder available in this year's draft and arguably the most talented overall player. Aish is an incredibly composed outside midfielder and he has a first-class ability to hit targets under pressure. He seems to have the power to be able to freeze time and think, while players around him are hopeless in their attempts to tackle him and apply pressure. Aish has the dexterity to understand the exact amount of time he has to dispose of the ball without the quality of the possession being neglected. Another awe-inspiring trait of Aish's is his ability to work hard and impact the game even when he receives a tag. In spite of receiving close attention from many teams throughout the under 18 carnival, Aish finished with one of the highest kicking efficiency's of any Division 1 player.
This kicking allows him to be an effective player on the back flank and as a receiving midfielder. Up forward, his disposal is penetrating and he sets up goals beautifully. This is a testament to his work ethic and amazing football nous. His use of the football is immaculate; Aish has wonderful hands to go with elite kicking on either foot. His ability to work in tight with effective handballs is yet another quality that will entice clubs to draft the other worldly talent. Aish has the competence to handball to teammates in space and his clean hands almost never fumble. Just like Richmond star Trent Cotchin, Aish is a pure footballer who should have no issues adapting at AFL level. A talented player with a great football pedigree, Aish has all the makings of a future club captain and star. Although he has an ever-expanding skill set, Aish's contested ball winning ability has a way to go. With the talent he has, I doubt this will hold him back.

Why would we want that serial diver? I wouldn't touch him or Nahas with a ten foot pole....too similar to Milera, too much cold than the slim time they are hot

Yeah small forwards are a dying breed. We've got too many as it is.
Not really, Milne, Schneider likely to retire, Milera might leave/delisted leaves Saad and an untried Minchington maybe throw in TDL. Neither Saad or TDL can play midfield.

Not saying we should get Jetta and/or Nahas but could be options. If we can find ones that can play midfield as well would be massive bonus.

2032 ND - 195cm, 96kg CHB, Barrels Jnr. (fingers crossed...) ;)

Just found out I'm going to be a dad... :D
Congrats mate. Perhaps he'll play on the forward line alongside my boy, who is nearly 18 months and is above the 99th centile for height and weight! Already enjoys kicking the ball around and watches the Saints on TV with his Dad of course!

When I say too many I mean more than one. ;)

One in the team and maybe one for backup is enough IMO, any more and they're just list cloggers because it looks like they're going to be replaced by resting mids.

Gee whiz Rahul, that's exciting stuff... Brilliant write up, hopefully he'll somehow sneak through to us.

What's to say we'd pick Boyd with number 1 if we got it? Assuming Melbourne retain pick 2, and we didn't offload pick 3, then it may be worth picking Aish with 1, as Melbourne are after mids, so a)Probably won't pick Boyd and b)Would steal Aish if available at 2.

He didn't suggest trading Mac for just a two spot upgrade, he suggested trading Gilbo for a two spot upgrade. Fair difference there.I doubt very much it would take Mac and pick 3 to get pick one and we wouldn't offer that.

If we traded Mac and 3 we would probably get 1 and 10 in return, or something along those lines, effectively giving us Boyd and someone like Sheed/Dunstan/Bontompelli, for Mac and one of Scharanberg/Kelly/Aish.

On a talent basis I think it would be much of a muchness, with Boyd likely to be better than Mac, but Aish/Kelly/Scharanberg likey to be better than Sheed/Dunstan/Bontompelli, but structurally I think we'd be better off with Boyd, Hickey and Stanley in the team long term than Mac, Hickey and Stanley, given that Mac and Hickey have both shown very little when played forward so far in their careers and given both look far better suited to the no.1 ruck role, where there's only room for one of them.

My post(s) were implying that some St Kilda supporters are prepared to give up McEvoy and Pick 3 for Boyd, and that is paying too much. I personally would love us to land the Number 1 pick but only if we keep pick 3. Imagine if Boyd doesn't develop as people are expecting (which is a greater chance with KPF than Mids) and we have traded away an Aish who is a much greater chance of becoming an elite AFL playerin my opinion. We would never forgive ourselves.
Lets offer GWS McEvoy and some other expendable senior players and/or later picks, if they bite on that teriffic, if not we have an elite young mid waiting for us at pick 3.

Great write-up Rahul

I would not be surprised if Kelly goes to Melbourne at pick 2....Just got to ensure we finish with pick 3.

Hypothetical; what if GWS took Sharenberg at pick 1 and Melbourne took Kelly at pick 2...? Aish or Boyd to choose from. That would be a nice predicament to be in!

I could happen too. I'd be a bit pissed if Boyd and Aish went one and two. We'd probably get Sharenberg then, but he's not the greatest need.

Well done Barrels another little sainter, you are about to have the best time of your life.
Thanks lads.

Your boy sounds like a monster unit there Richter; unfortunately I'm more Milney's size, but my father started at 6'4 before the mature shrink started, my brother and father-in-law are 6'4 and change and uncle-in-law is about 6'5. Hell even my wife's female cousin is well over 6'... And my just-shy-of-3yr old niece is apparently the size of a kid 18 months older... So here's hoping ;)

Why would schniderman retire he is only 28 right.
He's just missed three months with a hamstring after missing a lot of time last year as well. At 29 looks like his body is shot.

I'm not suggesting that we overpay for him, but just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's not worth what it costs to acquire it.

It depends on the windows, I guess.

On a serious note, if we trade Big Mac, then that's it for me as far as this club is concerned. Unless he wants out of his own volition.

Yes, he is! My wife has bought him a too for a 6 yo which does not look too crazy on him! However, I've read that it isn't until after the age of 4 that you get any sort of prediction about how big they'll be later on... tbh I'm trying not to project too much on to him. Of course I have dreams of taking him to the game, and him loving playing sport... but the reality is you love 'em for themselves however they turn out.

Anyhow all the best to you and your partner, and good wishes for the pregnancy, birth etc.
